On the plus side, think of all the FFXIV rage/freakout vids it could create!
As they say, any publicity is good publicity.

I would like a mod that let me take screenshots during cutscenes without the ui visible (and without the SE copywrite message!) that would be a useful mod.
An SE made Mod for Video capture! GO
UI Mods would be a welcome addition. I just wonder how many features can be packed safely into UI mods.
Video Capture mod (Yes, Please.)
I tried to photoshop an UI and how i would like to see it.

(Blue squares are a tooltip).
upper left, your class, your exp bar, what you got on main hands, if a bow equiped, what ammo you're wearing, then some Arrows you are carrying in your bag, (different color meaning different ammo type), could have put how many arrow left on different type.
Bag inventory, gils on you (probably add guildmarks and stuff like that). upper right the buff/debuff on you.
Down right, target mode (ALL), minimap (square) with the R/S button that can change to orange/red depending on your traffic connection, with a tooltip that show the exact R/S. Took the buttons skin from Steam Buttonfacade (wowinterface), but any skin could be fine, that will show all the bar (and then their recast).
this is a minimalistic try, i didn't add my own bar or enemy bar or stuff like that.
My guess, it could be a great idea to let player design their own Unit Interface, without giving access to real "mods" (SE can probably easily grant access or not to thoses functions).
I dont think people can cheat with thoses things allowed, anyway, not allowing a mod and an ls asking you to use it, it's like asking you to use a claim bot to join an HNM ls (and some of FFXI linkshell ask that badly...).
(sorry for my bad english).
Do not take advantages through UI mods while I'm not using it.

I don't like it, especially top left corner part...
I very much doubt we'll see 3rd party UI mods. They are very strict over what they allow (one of the reasons that the UI was so slow at launch), so I really don't see them letting people have free reign over the UI. They are against anything that would trivialize content, and any mod involving meters or calculations do just that. So if we see any modding available at all, I can almost guarantee it will be only in the form of skinning and appearance mods.
It seems like people are getting UI mods and botting confused... "heal bot"? "Playing the game for me"?
Unless I'm the one that's confused. That just doesn't sound like a UI mod to me.
Some people also seem to be assuming that UI mods mean we will be able to see information that we shouldn't be able to. Things that SE wouldn't want us to see, or things that would give some players an unfair advantage.
What is this "boss mod" thing? That doesn't sound like a UI modification. That sounds like cheating.
I guess you never played world of warcraft :) go here:
www.curse.com.
It is a very good thing you never played it either, you didn't risk becoming tainted by its evil!
Yes I never played. ^^ lol
Thanks for the info. I can see why some people are worried now.
Although.. I don't feel this is what SE meant by "UI mods". It just doesn't seem like something they'd do. I don't think anyone has reason to worry over this. I won't be worried until I know what they meant exactly.. but I can only picture it being colour/size/placement changes and perhaps some info on-screen that was previously in menus.
Blizzard does not allow any mod that plays the game for you. You're exagerrating immensely. They've had some close calls but quickly shut them down, like AVR. And since I'm seeing "healbot" mentioned all over the place, despite the name it is not a bot, at all. It does not do anything for the player, it just presents already given information in a different manner.
If you've ever coded with LUA, you can't do anything the game doesn't specifically enable you to do. Square could very easily disable whatever commands they desire if they want to shut down certain functions. UI mods are NOT harmful if moderated, period. UI mods have very rarely ever "played the game for you" in any game, because developers simply do not let that happen.
I'd dig an integrated monster encyclopedia.
I beg to differ.
While few mods have literally played the game for you (botting), a vast number of the mods in WoW tell you exactly what to do and when to do it. This is why they have a bad name for "playing the game for you". If you have enough of them (like my friend who couldn't even see his character because he had so many mod windows open), you don't even need to think to play the game.
Stop trolling Ostia, seriously. Read my post and think again before you act like a smartass. I never said the Mods play the game for you, I said mods can take away your own effort and make it a trivial task(Boss Mods)
Boss Mods doesn't do things for you, but they tell you what to do at what time...that's already way more then I'd like to see in XIV...
If you like to play XIV and fight boss' as if you are mentally retarded, that's your choice.
Great... So now on top of being turned away from parties because we aren't in their LS, or we don't speak a certain language, we can also look forward to being turned away from parties because we don't have this mod or that mod.
Yay?
Woot, great news, keep up the hard work SE :)
The party list is basically heal bot anyway, you just press the skill (number 7 in my case) and click the name, it wouldn't take much to use an external program to configure 7 to the left mouse button for example.
Healbot is actually not a bot, it just allows you to configure healing spells to the click of the left and right mouse buttons.Quote:

I always up for open choice, whatever people will do with it are their own business.
UI mods cometh! Make your time! The end is near!~
On another note, I hope we require LS members to have the most pointless mods in order to participate out of spite... like one that plays circus music when you engage a boss.
Those unwilling or unable to adapt to change will be unhappy with mods becoming standard place, such is life. If you don't get invited because you refuse to install a mod, you're in the wrong LS, go find a purist LS somewhere that insists on having all its members type out every command they wish to perform manually while walking around mumbling latin prayers and flagellating themselves. I'm sure after the UI apocalypse is upon us there will be a few.
Please read the thread, people already suggested that it may only change the look and positioning of the UI and not the functionality.
The PS3 can use addons for other games also, and it also has a web browser which you can download with, as long as the plugins are compatible with the PS3 game engine there is nothing stopping the PS3 users getting addons as well.
boss mod can also put in /guilde t'chat what's going to happen and thoses who dont use this program can still now what to do.
Healbot is not a bot... it's simply let you heal your mate without targeting them, only mouseover on their frame and use bind button to heal them. it's make the heal simple, yes, but nothing you can't do if you dont have this addon.
Boss mod are the same, it show exactly what you see without this mods, but add warning screen in case you miss it, and believe me, on wow, if you miss a big attack, you'll have to try again the fight.
Actually, SquareEnix only talked about UI mods, would be nice to know more about what they think about "UI mods".
They could easily implement a Mod Store like Civilization V where you pick download and install mods that are uploaded to the Mod store. Players can then vote on them and they have to be tested for faults and stuff before they are accepted.
Yes this would mean they would have to hire a small team to manage the mod store but the mod store could be used on the PS3 as well at this point.
Since a lot of people are complaining a lot about boss mods. What's the difference between an on screen indicator via text that says "Spike Flail Incoming in 5..." and *insert random raid leader* constantly telling the raid over vent/skype to stand under the wing so you don't get hit with the incoming Spike Flail?
What's the difference between having an on screen text indicator saying "Adds incoming!" and just having the game swarm your screen with adds. If you're not paying attention, then you're not paying attention. Boss mods don't tell you anything the game doesn't. The minute a mod (boss mods or not) start telling you information the game isn't intentionally set up to tell you, then it's not a mod anymore. It's 3rd party software, or botting. Mods and bots ARE NOT the same.
I don't know what's so hard to understand about this. Something like Windower was not a mod, it was 3rd party software, it did not work WITH the FFXI software, and within it's restrictions in guidelines. It worked independently to read memory and give you information you're not suppose to have. Mods work within the game software and do only what developers allow them to do. If Square doesn't want you to know there is incoming adds ahead of time, they don't have to. And there's nothing that a "MOD" can do to change that. A "MOD" cannot make unintended things happen.
Not even a unicorn apocalypse?
But seriously Ava there is much truth in your wise words. Not paying attention is not paying attention, written indicators or visual indicators aside. And you're also right in that Boss mods just made the raid leader less like the now classic Leerory raid leader with the 9 hour speech and constant play by play voice over during the raid where possible.
Boss mods was well worth the price of occasional silence.
P.S. I'm not going to touch on your comment about the difference between a mod and a bot, thought that was self evident (for me anyhow I gather it isn't a universally self evident thing).
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that isn't it for me. I dislike how the map is just sitting out there in the middle of screen, unnecessary icons everywhere, and where is my hp/mp bar? The fonts do look nice, but not at the expense of having such an awful number of unnecessary action bars cluttering up my screen.
Functional > Pretty
That aside, there is no reason why we couldn't still relocate UI elements.
Edit:
Also, I would love the minimap to go the Tera route and become transparent: http://images.mmosite.com/tera/image...terface02l.jpg
