This is sad.

I appreciate all the hard work Yoshi has done. I've complained, like many of you, but I never stopped supporting the game and continued to hope for it to turn out fantastic. I hope, months from now, that the game is still alive and kicking and not losing population like so many other MMO's seem to do. Yoshi has made a great game, and even great games have their faults. Good job Yoshi, you've surprised a lot of people. Continue to do what you're doing.

My take is that Yoshi-P professionally apologized and did not waver or tear up in doing so. Then, as he collected his thoughts for what he was about to say next, the emotional impact of looking back on all that he and his team accomplished overwhelmed him. I am so happy that I saw him shed tears of relief and joy.

While I agree that sending personal insults/threats to the development team is a ridiculous symptom of an even bigger problem in gaming communities in general, I find it ridiculous how many people have taken this relatively new "blame the consumer" stance on launch issues. You will not find this mentality in any other industry. If a company sells a product, that product is expected to work as advertised, otherwise it is perfectly fine to request compensation for the defective product.

I'm sure I'll be called an "entitled arsehole" for saying it, but if expecting a paid product to work properly means I'm entitled, then yes, I'm entitled as hell and I'm happy to be so. And, whether or not, you kind if owe it to those "entitled arsholes" because they're the ones promoting corporate responsibility and owning up to their mistakes. What the gaming community has deemed "entitlement," other industries have deemed "consumerism."

Self entitled brats really tick me off. The game isn't perfect, but nobody should be talking about bombing japan or making fun of Yoshi-P. That's just insane.

although some of the comments in the past few days have been vitrious, mine included, i do not agree with the idea that the anger and frustration people experienced was due to a sense of entitlement. lets get one thing straight. the early access was not a hand out, it was not a freebie, it was a financial transaction. the condition to getting early access was to preorder the game, or have played the game long enough to gain legacy status. NOT entitlement, get that out of you heads.

second thing is that perhaps the way the problems were handled were not dealt with in a manner that might have been agreeable with the NA audience, this is due to a difference in culture not so much that Americans are entitled. perhaps they might be, but in this case its really a minor aspect. This is not a sympathy for the devil type of argument, i am simply trying to be objective, albeit a bit difficult seeing as i also experienced that frustration.

anyone who has bought and played this game and like it on any level can truly see the amount of work that was put into it. one does not put out work like this that does not work hard. Most would agree that Yoshi P and his team did a fantastic job on all levels.

Now, when people are enraged and they need someone to blame, they find the easiest target, this being SE and by extension Yoshi. perhaps that might not be fair but it is how the world works. Everyone does this in any part of the world, perhaps in this case, it was more visible on the NA forums, but I imagine if it had been on the JP servers things might have gone differently, but the frustration would have been visible too.

all in all, this has been a trying time for everyone but once everything is fully in order, we will all look back on it and smile. if any of us is going to play this game, and ultimately pay for it, we will have expressed our interest and gratitude regardless of what has transpired here in the past few days. /2cents.

Ha! For once its nice to see a supportive community. I don't blame the Dev team, I think they have done a outstanding job. But I wish SE would atleast say they are working to resolve the login issues. The lack of communication is causing the anger.

I think its funny how everyone is complaining about the servers being full or whatever, I get home around 5pm try to log on with "Server Full" Messages, I try for about 5 minutes and I'm in and playing till 12am no problems. People are just impatient and stupid. I'm actually glad they are complaining because if they keep it up they might get pissed off and quit, which is PERFECTLY FINE with me.. easier for me to log and removes those negative people from the community. :D

I think people are upset because they have to "keep trying" to log in. A lot of these rage threads would not exist if we weren't forced to manually sit and keep clicking or pressing 0 to try over and over again. A queue should have been properly implemented. I don't mind server caps or character creation restrictions, those are expected at major launches ... I just don't want to sit there like an idiot tapping the same button hoping I get in. It's ridiculous from a client/customer point of view.

It truely is sad, I'm upset about the servers too but not at Square.

The trash filled up the Welcome to Eorzea with hate and threats and it made me more and more mad...

I am glade to be on the server with the best community, and feel sorry for the people who have to share the same server with this filth that are from gamefaqs, reddit etc.

I get in on the first try.

On the other hand, I'm also brazilian, which means my timezone is such that when I usually start up the game it's well before it starts getting crowded. But by the time I have my first crash (I invariably crash, my ISP sucks globes and at around 10 PM local the entire internet goes down) it's smack in the middle of peak NA hours and I just can't get in again.

I think people are definitely simply upset by a lack of queue, seeing an error message makes your blood boil, but seeing yourself in position 57324 of a queue (that won't let you in until the next day anyway) gives you false hope. Both are the same thing, it's all about manipulating our emotions.

I'm from older (but not too older) generations where queuing wasn't a thing that was common, it's definitely a quality of life thing, but hardly a thing to get angry at

Same for me, same for my SO, and same for everyone in my free company. It's really not that tough to get in, you just need to lean on that 0 key like it owes you money.

Thanks Yoshi , it is a great game, yesterday and today had no problems logging in*knock on wood*.

This game is great, I like the scenery and the dynamic weather changes .

Rage-a-hol aside I don't get sympathy when my end results are sub par. I remember reading on one thread something g about trophies for participating. They got their trophy in their pay checks. Time to deliver. Fire the server team if the core game isn't the issue. While I agree with the sentiment of the OP, I personally try not to let myself get worked up over it. People will have their opinions, and honestly, MMOs gain and lose players all the time. I don't ONLY play MMOs that are considered some kind of crazy resounding success with absolutely perfect launches (I really can't think of any MMO launches I've been in that even meet that criteria, and I've been in a fair few). Eventually those who don't like the game will leave, and those who do will still be around.

In the end, I see a game that I absolutely love, but is just suffering from a few (purely technical) issues that will inevitably be solved over time. I'm not saying they shouldn't be tirelessly working to correct the datacenter issues, but the issues this time around are far from what the game originally suffered through in version 1.0. 1.0 suffered from design problems first and foremost, even if there were or weren't full-server issues at launch, the problem was once you actually got into the game, the game itself was a problem. With 2.0, I'm having trouble getting into Eorzea, but when I AM able to visit, it's a place I love to be. 'Please look forward to it', well, I tell you what, I look forward to each and every visit, and I look forward to the journey there becoming a bit less problematic. X3

The video made me cry. Mainly because I generally cry when people cry because I'd weird/emotional. Yoshi has taken something that failed and evolved it into something awesome back. Everyone seems to only be complaining about server issues (from what I've read) and you know what, that's a good thing in away. They're not complaining about the content and the fact everyone was getting so frustrated with the downtime just proves they wanted to be IN the world and PLAY! Yoshi P must love that people want to play his game!

They had all the prep time they needed, they had multiple betas and previous experience.

Not only that, they know the NA/EU are congested, and only current solution is to prevent paying players from playing the game by restricting logins.

Not only that, they are planning on releases more servers for JP only. And we are supposed to feel sorry for this guy and his bad decision one after another? I think not. He failed, and he knows it. Stop crying and fix it.

I do however want to see the people responsible for the NA/EU data centre called to task for the constant problems that centre has experienced. the difference between how the JP centre and how the NA/EU centre has handled Early Access and launch is striking and a serious blow to the team who put so much into this game, twice.

People are assholes, what're you gonna do. Just look at Rydis' post above. Just gotta ignore internet tough guys like that. Yoshi-P and his team aren't purposely trying to make you people miserable. They are working round the clock and the evidence is clear. Sunday was infinitely better than Saturday. Monday was infinitely better than Sunday.

Servers are full, logins have to be restricted. Hopefully they can implement a better queue and auto kick AFK system. Until then, just keep trying till you get in. I got 90000'd 3 times yesterday. First time I was able to get back in, next time it took 15 minutes. The last time in the evening took me an hour. That is frustrating, sure. But w/e. Deal with it and keep trying. Its the initial rush, servers will be loaded now more than they ever will. I'm sure SE is doing all they can, they didn't remake this game and work so hard just so at the end they can go, "LOL look at these people unable to play."

I enjoy the game when i can play which unfortunately isn't often because I work and go to college so during the times I have free, which is early afternoon, I can't play because of 1017. I will admit the team did a great job remaking the game and the game is relatively bug free. The problem is that they didn't make more servers which is the problem right now. In 1.0 they did server merges because there wasn't enough players to justify having that many. What they should have done was bring back ALL the servers and allow ONE free server transfer when you first logged in whether it was EA or launch. It would have easily solved the capacity issue. And down the road did server merges AS NEEDED. Now, the majority of players can't even log in due to 1017 and looking at all the F2P MMOs out there that are playable and some of them are really fun, they won't stay. In the end this will solve the capacity problem BUT will hurt SE's wallet more.

Just look at the news they even posted on the Lodestone. They know NA/EU has congestion issues, are doing log in restrictions. Then they post how they are adding servers..but for the JP only. They aren't even attempting at this time to do this for the problem already at hand. When you completely drop the ball like this, crying over it makes it pathetic, not sad. If you can't take the harsh truth, then your not cut out to do it. That has nothing to do with being an asshole, or an internet tough guy. Its simply the truth. That stream made me lose all respect for him and his team.

And they keep telling you regardless to come back trying to get your reservation, but you can't, you have to get lucky. But then they fully expect you to appreciate all they did..while letting everyone else come in.

I totally agree with the original post and all the others Defending Square-Enix and Yoshi-p, They have both been working so hard to give us what we want in-game and out. But this isn't just about Final Fantasy XIV, Think about every other game they have given us over the years. They have been trying to be the best since before Sqaresoft and Enix merged. Just because you have issues getting into servers and on occasion the duty finder stop hating on a company that's given us some of the best RPG games. The fact they have totally re-made this game from scratch they deserve some credit, not a lot of companies would do that. I say Well done Yoshi-P and the rest of the team Keep up the good work!

Seeing the video of Yoshi's speech made me tear up. It was like his heart was breaking, and knowing how hard he has worked and following his journey for this project in turn broke mine. It is blatantly obvious he put every ounce of his being into this project, and I am even more happy to play and support the game, knowing that THIS level of passion and dedication is infused within it.

This wouldn't be such a huge thing if there was an inactivity time-out helping to clear room on individual servers. Friends of mine have been logged in all day and afk for hours, grocery store, class, etc.

Yoshi worked his butt off to make this game, and it didn't just show in th game itself, it showed in the many pictures we saw of him at conventions so tired he looked like he was about ready to pass out, but STILL answering questions and giving us live letters and working himself loony. The naysayers can burn in all the seven hells for all I care. This game is spectacular, and for every naysayer troll there are at least a hundred people applauding this awesome product. This is the only MMo I care to play, or will care to play for years to come. Now the adventures really start! :D

FFXI lives for 10 years, XIV will be the same.

Exactly my sentiments on this issue. Oh NA/EU servers a clogged and now those unappreciative Westerners are clogging our Japanese servers. Welp lets fix that and expand the Japanese servers instead of fixing the real problem and bringing more NA/EU servers up. Ridiculous.

Not mention that they have implemented absolutely no methods for removing AFKers. You can literally stand still in the game doing nothing 24hrs a day and will only be logged out if your connection fails or a server reset/maintenance occurs. That is just piss-poor planning no matter how pretty they made the game.

Diablo 3 launch week... Lest we forget.

To each their own. Spectacular? Awesome? There are a host of other problems with FFXIV. But...to each their own. I just don't think this game deserves the praise nor the hate...

Error 1017 is exactly why many people don't log out of fear of not being able to play again for a while. I don't want to be one of those guys that do that but four days of only being able to play during late night hours is pushing me closer and closer to that point.

Why do people think SE is worthy of so much respect? They just follow the trend of other massive and shitty game companies. They are designing their games for graphics over gameplay and story as apparent in FF13 and then continue to shove FF13 sequels down everyone's throats, FF14 1.0 failed terribly, they keep pushing games onto ipads and phones, most of their best games in recent years were remastered ports. This game is just another generic mmo but with chocobos and moogles, SE hasn't done anything so great in a long time that they deserve complete loyalty when the game fails to work. If we're being entitled then so are SE, they think they can just keep taking our money without putting out any products of excellence so we have earned a right to complain I think.
