So what's the Scholar's class going to be called? I postulated "Loremaster" on another thread.

SCH would be a job not a class, so people theorized that SCH *could* come from MSK. It's obviously not confirmed but it's an interesting concept. SE doesn't seem to concerned about messing around with the FFXI version of the jobs.

On the contrary, I don't think SE would be that stupid to merge a class/job which makes little sense at all.
ARC/BRD is the only "strange" example but I actually like it, and early incarnations of BRDs throughout the series used bows once or twice. I think SCH coming from MSK would cause sooo much rage =b

Considering the rage over 'is she SCH or not' I'd second that...but it would be sweet, sweet fun to watch playout.

(and I secretly thing MSK>SCH would be awesome!) but not probable....if for no other reason than that lady holding the book IS holding a book...and not a Pistol. So MSK >SCH is even more unlikely than her being a SCH.

But SCH off ARN? If true, it's not the Scholar people think it is...at least mechanics wise.

I'm kind of against a proto-summoner running around in another job's AF. But if this is the new way of things, I hope they'll add more classic FF looks to unrelated mundane classes. I'm starting to get used to the idea of my Thaumaturge getting Red Mage AF as class-specific gear. (/sarc)

And then you look at the FFXIV: ARR CE box art and notice that there are only 8 jobs shown at the bottom of it and guess which non-job that you all want to think is a job isn't show there hmmm? I think that speak more and more that guess what you are looking at arcanist which is the scholar of the FFXIV world...

Anyway unless SE says it is what you wish it was but more then likely isn't you really should not try to point things out stating it is the iconic scholar look... from FFXI... note if you look back at scholar in the other FF games they almost all have long coats and the scholar in FFIII doesn't even have the mortar board hat just so you know... So if you really want to get into iconic scholar then I want a long coat! Also the older sprite of scholar was colors red and white and the coat was all red...

The biggest issue with this i have is that only jobs have AF classes do not it seems extremely odd to give only one class specific gear and leave the rest. This along coupled with the fact that the picture here and on the Arcanist 14 page look nothing alike im not saying this is a new job but it does look like that may be the case we will find out soon enough though

Because plenty of people are still arguing it's arcanist, although they prob. just fail to realize everyone's saying it's arcanist with the Scholar Job stone equipped.

Well Yoshi came on the Live Letter Test this morning dressed as Scholar and scolding his team for leaking Scholar, so yeah it'll be the big thing to watch for tmr!!

Big questions is if they were going to do confirm it in the LIVE letter, why come on in the test video seemingly making a big joke about it? Wouldn't it be better business sense to big up tension and not mention it at all and then deliver the big "I KNEW IT!" moment later?

Because I don't know Japanese, and these tests can be so silly, I don't trust my eyes. But yes, Soken did come on in Scholar garb. Showed the Before Meteor cover, etc, & some video from it, and the Dalamud minion. All the while they joked about this or that. Anyway, Yoshi-P came in and reportedly asked about Soken's mortarboard-style cap, said it's leaked all over cover art and the internet/forums, and PR and the battle team were mad about it. (Note: Yoshi-P jokes during these things, too.)

So hopefully we'll find out tomorrow, unless PR really wants it kept unofficial until E3. Whatever "it" is.

Yeah but it was blatantly "leaked" it. Not even trying to hide it. It doesn't look like an Arcanist, which is a class, shown on a JOB wheel? C'moon.. I don't see why there's gotta be such a heavy debate over this lol.

I just gotta ask again...when was it confirmed to be a JOB wheel by the STAFF and not the community? Just curious....

How do we know that it is not just showcasing the new creations of Yoshi's. Why can't this be the Yoshi wheel? Because the other classes were Tanaka's creations. Everything in that picture is Yoshi's. That's what I got anyway. But you know what? I could be wrong. It just appears to me as showcasing Yoshi's stuff, as there hasn't really been any mention of Scholar being added, and the book was already confirmed to be the Arc weapon. And we know that jobs/classes don't share weapons.

Personally, I don't find that to be any stronger of evidence, never mind a blatant confirmation, than the fact that every class on the NA website is now wearing what looks like snazzy new CSE to go with their CSE weapons ... except arcanist.

EDIT: Or, rather than CSE maybe these are just dyed versions of existing gear, as has been pointed out.

I think it's still up in the air with a heavy statistical likelihood towards ACN.

I've seen SE pull a lot of stuff out of their ass for a surprise before, but never anything like that. Information is inevitably leaked from time to time, and some of it so far has been way more sensitive than this; they'd have no reason to hide the system infrastructure changes needed for this to be Scholar. Could they still do it? Hell yeah. Will they? Probably not, imho.

SE knows the English community is the only one with Scholar fever - that's why they didn't crack that joke the JP developer's blog. I would laugh my ass off if Yoshida had him put on that hat and say scholar a few times knowing that people who don't know Japanese or don't have the ear to pick up their cultural sarcastic intonation would freak out.

Again, not saying I'm obviously right ... but ... I'm siding with the numbers.

WHat it really boils down to until confirmation is all speculation. But as stated before by someone "If it walks like a duck." I'll just wait until tomorrow morning to see the summary of the Live letter because it's obvious they'll address it since Soken whipped out his Mortar cap.

To be fair if ACN ends up with a SCH outfit as their CSE they will have the best and most unique looking CSE of the lot of them. Unique atleast until they churn out dozens of Sch like outfits for leveling up in...

Oh, Moose. Those pictures aren't new, and that armor is definitely not the new, special CSE. CNJ is wearing the Vanya Robe, for one (and it's true that WHM can't wear it, but THM can). I don't remember the names of the other sets, but the GLA and MRD gear are definitely familiar.

Arcanist isn't shown like that for the same reason Summoner isn't -- they're not ready to release in game renderings of them. I find it sort of surprising that they'd release the concept art for CSE for their new class even before doing so for their older classes. They've been pretty tight-lipped about CSE for the combat classes so far. ...Not that that's really an argument either way, just a thought.

I simply find it hard to believe that they would intentionally get all our hopes up just to be like, "LOL THERE'S NOTHING HERE, WASN'T THAT A FUNNY JOKE, GUYS?" And whether or not you think SCH is really coming, it's definitely obvious that they're teasing us about it.

We KNOW we're getting new jobs in the nearish future, Yoshi-P did mention once that he'd like to add more mages before putting in more DoWs (though he also said he'd like to add a stealthy war job, so who knows where we are on that front). There's also a reason I've been leaning towards there being nine jobs at, or close to, launch. And that's balancing. Each city has three guilds with three combat classes in them except for Limsa, which in v1 had only one class, but all three guilds. With ACN being added, that makes two classes in Limsa and still a third guild not being used. I'd been using this previously to quietly assure myself we'd be seeing a musketeer soon, but with redesigning the cities entirely it wouldn't be difficult to change that guild into one for a different class.

That would also explain the timing of this "leak". They'd need to get it out before Phase 3 when we all start running around Limsa and stumble across an unfamiliar guild.

Yeah, the Vanya does seem out of place when compared to the others... perhaps the other outfits are just dyed versions? CSE might even be an irrelevant term and, as you say, these are multi-job with beneficial stats. The big thing is that I just don't feel it, you know? That much has been obvious since they released that artwork, but I 100% believe they'd release something that looks like something else and then not confirm it until one side was so worked up that they'll be inevitably butthurt about it for years after.

I was pretty convinced it was SCH until I took a look at the bigger picture and the probability is just so comparatively small. It could be - remember, the bard incident was what it looked like... but there was also a lot of supporting evidence for it, specifically that they'd have needed to secretly add an entire job without telling anyone. See why this is so up in the air for me? lol

Why would there be a new guild? Aren't you arguing that this is a job? I thought this was the "job branching confirmed!" thing because of the book. Wouldn't it still just have the ACN guild?
