Should have been Class:Archer/Job:Ranger then Class:Bard/Job: Dancer
1. As many have said Bards in fantasy settings were generally offshoots of rogues. So using a bow isn't far fatched at all.
2. Please DO NOT change the FFXIV bard into a magical girl who makes giant musical notes fall from the sky & turns enemies into shuffling penguins like the one in Aion. No. No. No.
3. Add more support and utility songs to bard as it is now. I like being able to attack as well as support, playing Bard in XI was just boring.
Bard is mostly fine as it is IMO. They just need to add more support, utility & debuff songs and an actual singing animation.
I actually really enjoy Bard the way it is , while I agree it does need new songs / instruments - I'd rather they didn't take away the bow and arrow aspect. It would be a godawful boring job then ...
Armory system is here to stay, please settle into that reality.
As far as the idea of 'Shooting Notes'... I'm not keen on it.
Then again, I was NEVER keen on the FFXI or previous iterations of bard in FF games, ever. Every single iteration of the character seemed pretty much like a gimick, and it was only really good in FFXI because it ignored all other prospects of combat and gave Haste and Refresh - the first of which was the single most breaking mechanic in FFXI, the second was on such a short supply that it was critical to have any and all amounts (which is now pretty much unneeded.)
So no, I actually LIKE the concept of Bard as an Archer variant, I just wish there was more stylization for Bard to make the instrument aspect of it apparent, such as having instruments as a secondary weapon that they use for their songs, akin to how a Paladin has their shield.
As far as more abilities to make it identify more with the bard role, that should come when every job has more job abilities to do the same - meaning every job should get more job abilities.
Beyond that, people are just arguing against aesthetics. I thoroughly enjoy the fact that Bard has a function besides only casting songs. It actually makes it a bit more realistic that they have a method to fight that's not whimsical instruments being thrown into the air, which just looks gaudy and tacky. (Aion's concept of bard is... nauseating.)
There are better ways of dealing with the hybridization of mechanics than to eliminate them, and I'm glad they made bard functional as a ranged class on top of a support class.
That said, I still want them to provide the "Ranger" job as the second Job variant of Archer - however I'm willing to hold off until the second round of jobs. There are other classes that can be created first.
Please don't make it like that OP video. Please.
I thought XI BRD was fine, but i also think XIV BRD is fine. I would like more songs, but that's it.
Yeah I can't agree with this at all just because having class to job being based of only one element, music makes that a dead line if they are going to add more job crystals to each class instead of adding a new class to introduce a new job. That and I would rather see sniper then ranger and give ranger to the two handed gun category.
Idk, when I think of bard I think of this guy.

And he was a badass.
Mudd, I love your sig ;U
As much as I hate to feed into this kind of thread. I'm going to have to completely agree with the OP. SE knows what Bard is suppose to be like. Bard was added to archer to appease the community whining about wanting/needed a new magic/buffing class. Archer should have advanced its job to Ranger and they know it... When I saw what they did with Bard my first reaction was slight shock as I thought they were trying to make this game "perfect" like everyone likes to think, and the way Bard was implemented seemed completely half assed.
I know people on here will be all like but, but... Bard in other games uses bow... blah blah. Yes I know this... but trust me I know, SE knows, and YOU know what Bard is suppose to be like in the Final Fantasy staple and what archer/ranger is suppose to be like as well.
Even my linkshell makes fun of Bard/archer and calls it Barcher, LOL.
I apologize if anyone brought this up, but Vanguard did Bard in a pretty cool way. You would learn parts of a song instead of the whole song and install these parts into your own custom song. You could name it and everything. Thing was, you could only have one song active.
This was years ago when I played so the Vanguard BRD may have changed but what I can remember is it went like this:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Every few levels you would learn a different "part" to install into your song. Some parts increased STR, or improved run speed, or maybe INT. And you could install these parts into your song, save it, name it, then cast it. The group would get all the buffs that the parts gave.
So like your song could be:
Part 1: STR +5
Part 2: INT + 5
Part 3: STR +10
Part 4: Run speed +20
So, when you played that song, everyone would get +15 STR, +5 INT, and a 20% run speed for the duration.
I think that would be pretty cool being able to build your own songs and have to decide which song is best for which situation.
I apologize if I'm not explaining myself properly, but I feel like a few people are just going around in circles, so please enough with all the comparison because it is irrelevant, and I'm not asking for butterflies and ponies.
I understand some people like Bard the way it is, but honestly is there any difference that makes the job out shine the class? I don't see it. To me it still plays the same way, so I'm proposing a little visual change, and a little more than just the generic dps race. Keep in mind I'm not proposing to take away the dps.
What I want is more Bard specific bow/harp weapons with different stats for boosting songs. I want to utilize the harp that is mounted on the bow to shoot offensive songs that can do dmg, enfeeb enemies and buff.
Attacking things with music is something I think is cool. Everyone has their own opinion, but I think this way it'll make the Bard job more recognizable even without wearing any AF.
More guitars! Bring in mooshywooshy
I wish for this to happen in ARR~ not just support songs, i also want attack songs & such .
I couldn't agree more. I wish they would consider separating them for 2.0.
While i wish Brd had more songs, and could equip instruments, I really like them as Archers as well. I do not want that taken away. RNG could just easily have a whole different class if it is ever implemented. That way the skills are nothing alike.
I love how there are at least 10 posts dissing people who want higher DPS on bard yet there isn't a single one asking for higher DPS on bard
Ya SE im gonna have to agree since there is so many who want and see it the other way. Bard should be like Edward using a harp etc, potraying a fragle charismatic nature. Trying to bring harmony to a disordered world. The roots of FF are what is rekindling the game and although bard isnt on my top wish list the pld in me cant ignore the fan's plee. lol...
I like BRD the way it is in FF14 ppl here are biased from FF11's BRD >.> its a new original approach to the job stop asking for a "BRD-clone" (seewutididthere). If Yoshi-P decides to separate them which i HIGHLY doubt bcuz theres trailers portraying them lore and all that jazz i would hate it to be BRD > DNC ...keep DNC out of my FF14 plz :P.
If you wanna attack with strings do it this way:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...5CccAwY#t=149s
Or not even that could do a branch out for mutli class arc>brd using harp w/e then rng using bow but sharing gear only weapon diff making it easier but there are so many variables. I am sure everyone will agree they are doing a great job and at least entertain their fans where as most other companies ignore them.
It really comes down to being patient im sure there are stacks of plans but programing designing implementing etc takes so much time and energy.
There is literally no difference between an FFXIV archer and a typical FF ranger. It's the same exact class. If they were going to re-design Ranger and make it more like it is in other MMOs (with pets and what-not), then they might as well wait til the first expansion & do Ranger as a class with Beastmaster as the job that spins off it. That makes much more sense from a design perspective IMO.
Also;
Lol. Monk redesign!
in my opinion the current BARD is not really a BARD, its an interesting take on the job ill give Yoshi that, but that dosent mean the BRD in FFXI wasent more fun to play, but then again the whole games class/job system is horrible and Alien to me lol you got:
GLA PLD ARCH BRD CONJ WHM THM BLM MNK PUG LNC DRG WAR MRD
Just give us the Basic 7 and add totally unique jobs after that, stop rehashing classes and adding a few things then calling them "jobs"
we have too many of basically the same jobs.
I think a branch off would be easier to implement and less of a headache on gear only change the job weapon. imo.
but having to lvl other subs up to accomodate the soul Like Cecil for example Drk Into PLD shows the opposite paths that a mer soldier can take through light or dark. Mar more a primal spirit thin BST would go good Mar/War Mar/Bst
Archer/RNG ARC/BRD not only allowing you to keep your main and branch off to another role with a main established.
And just having to swap gear except class specific obviously the staple af stuff.
There is so much ways they can do this there really is no wrong answer.
BRDs in D&D are essentially rogues. That's bow and/or dag... Nevermind...
Just keep asking to move backwards in time. -.-
Madrigal stopped mattering once accuracy foods became plentiful and beyond the scope of sushi. Paeon was meh, especially considering the two-song limit. Minne = loldefense. Carols were a waste of a song slot, specially considering how resistances worked in FFXI. The list continues. Bard had horribly cluttered ability lists.
Keep in mind that XI gave birth to the princess bard. You may have been in the minority that liked the job as it was, but I think preventing a second coming of the princess bard (or its cousin, the princess red mage) is a tad more important.Quote:
Being proactive was the sign of a good BRD in XI. I want the same option here.
Now now. Pansy-wansies that without game mechanics would not contribute anything to the fight should not be throwing stones...Quote:
you didn't have to be the hurr durr meathead DD.

Backlogs aside, if you want new songs, I would recommend a second category of songs that cost no resouces but have cooldowns. The effects would be more for burst phases due to the songs having short durations. Maybe a song that lasts 20 seconds but increases the target/party's attack by a huge amount. Admiteddly, songs can only take you so far, and in all honesty, I think BRD is pretty well set with what it has right now.
Indeed. There's a reason bards were seen as badasses, and FFIV's Edward was not it.
OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! FINALLY FOR REAL U THE MAN! WTH IS WITH SE BRD in this game is nothing compare to a real BRD i mean seriously what u wrote is totally true brd in FF14 is and archer with few extra skills nothing that make them look a real BRD im sorry SE but u did really bad job on your part!! on doing this i was sooo happy when i hear BRD was coming and then i played it until i unluck all their skills and that was the last time i played it because i didnt like it, it didnt interested me for be brd because it was the same as a playing archer so SE PLEASE YOU BETTER CHANGE BRD ON 2.0 please!!!!!!!
Maybe i'm the only one but.. i like FFXIV 1.0's BRD
Would be cool, if they make the effect of songs based on a stat so you could stack that stat to improve songs. A stronger heal would also be great. Thats all i would change.
I can't stop staring at Andrien sign @_@
Greetings my musical friends!
I'd like to take a moment and give you some news about bard in ARR.
Drum roll please!

When performing songs, bards will take out an instrument and play!
This is the only detail we can give to you for now, but we hope you like it. :)
