I never enjoyed PVP in MMO.

I was always extremely reluctant to PvP in an MMO environment. I was talked into playing a PvP server on TERA and it was a lot of fun honestly.

I'll try it out for sure, sounds like its fun, I've never payed PvP any attention in XI save for two or three brenner matches, but sure I'd give it a go for fun! What is there to lose anyway? you either win or lose.

When I played The Old Republic for awhile, I got into PvP, got my ass handed to me royally, but had fun doing it. There's no challenge in a game greater/more rewarding than taking down a skilled human player!

I will try it out, specially instead of staying AFK in town doing nothing. It gives always something to do (well, if pvp is successful of course) when one logs on. :)
As some other posted, it mostly depends on how it is handled and how much fun you can get out of it.

As long as it's fun I will be playing PVP for sure.

1 on 1? not very often. But I'd give team based PvP a shot.

I agree with your sentiment. I have no interest in PvP whatsoever in MMORPGs. I most likely won't be participating.

I definitely will. Probably work it into my character's lore and base his "umbral" changes around that. Brenner/Ballista in XI was a bit stale, but pretty fun with a group of friends. I'm excited to see what's in store.

Fighting in PvP and PvE is totally different. Just because people know how to jump around and delay your actions doesn't make them more skilled at their job for PvE content, mobs react completely different. And it doesn't take a genius to learn a job in this game, so its pretty easy to spot theses "unskilled" players you speak of.

Might try it but won't be focus on it to be honest think it just make people have large ego's imo. I'll be enjoying the content of the game on the pve side of the house mostly thx.

I will always support others right to do things they see as fun. That's what FFXIV is all about; having multiple facets, such as: camping, crafting, gathering, PVP, questing....etc. It's us as a community that need to get together and support what our fellow players enjoy about the game.


To answer OP's question. I will not be participating in PVP. Funny thing though, in FFXI I actually one "Battle Royale" on our server lol.

I'll play PvP. It's always fun.
But it won't be my focus.

These responses are pretty interesting. I will be participating in PvP, and depending on the rewards, it may become one of my main focuses.

I honestly can't wait for PvP, I just hope it's nothing like ballista from FFXI :(

Its gonna depend on both the implementation and how fluid and responsive the new UI will be. At the moment, i feel i'd just trip over the UI and the lag to make it interesting.

I'll definitely try it. I've never been a fan of PvP and I don't like what it tends to do to PvE balance, but it's in the game for better or worse and I think Yoshida cares about doing it -right-, so hopefully it'll be well-implemented and worth messing with even if it's not my thing.

I generally don't care for PvP but I will probably try it out. I don't like 1v1 PvP because I suck and usually prefer a support role but I might enjoy a team based scenario.

I do have fears about balancing and what it potentially can do to PvE but I will reserve judgement until I have something to judge.

Cedicus and I will destroy Balmung with our PVP battles. He needs need recognize the power! :D

PvP might not be bad. I enjoy it mildly and would probly play it off an on. I hope its kept somewhat like 11 to where its not the main part of the game. I read the plans and think thats not too bad of a way of going about it. Zones that are pvp and the rest are pve. If they hold to the concept that there are ares in contention amongst the grand companies (did i read that correctly?) i think itll be pretty cool. I agree though i hope they dont screw up pve for the sake of pvp

I'm going to PvP so much the crowds will be yelling my name everywhere I go!

Well... Maybe in 1.x it doesn't take a "genius" to learn a class/job, but -maybe- with the 2.0 changes it'll be a lot easier to separate the men from the boys... So to speak.. But none of us will know until launch..

Since my first MMO was FF XI so I didn't really see what the big deal was with PvP. However, after experiencing SWTOR's Warzones and GW2 World vs World vs World I understand perfectly why Yoshi-P feels it's needed for a mass market MMO to keep casuals busy with never ending, dynamic and competitive content like that.

If done right it can become quite popular. I'm sure XIV's PvP won't compete with the likes of GW2 but it can at least help keep more players from getting bored.

I'll try it out but PvP in MMOs is usually horribly balanced or heavily gear dependent. I won't really place too much value in it though, it'll be a fun alternative at best. If I want meaningful PvP, I just play fighting games.

As for PvP, it all depend of its implementation. I was a hardcore DAoC player, it's gonna be hard to please me with PvP, but Yoshida was also a DAoC player so... maybe... there is hope to have a proper PvP system.

I can't wait to pvp, gonna R.I.P shit up with MNK lol. Just glad there is gonna be pvp gear and skills.

In order to do that, they'd need to make PVP a primary focus, and not just an side distraction. The current story doesn't lend itself to faction-based pvp or open-world pvp. They'd need those two things to "Do it right", and I don't see that happening.
