These dubs are a bad idea , now i'll imagine female char with male voices !!
MFW my buddy Goufunaki got Runner Up

GO GOUF GO
My lalafell voice wouldn't have stood a chance...
I actually like Riversong's entry best. Its not perfect, but sounds more genuine and believable to me than the others.
i prefered the winner the others were a little of lower quality the little thing that difference between sounding as an imitation and sounding quite real imo .
Welp Congrats to the winners. Really dig the slight africaner twinge to the winners version Enjoy your moogle and cd's!
I know now why mine was not chosen.

A little disappointed, I was hoping for at least one female to win D:
It's really hard to tell what they were looking for judging by the winner, no offense to him but it sounds very similar to the original trailer in my opinion; just deeper. I heard some great voice overs I think were better than some of the winners; but hey I'm not a Square-Enix team member lol.
Honestly out of all the winners or runner ups "Aqualin Riversong - Excalibur" was the best by far and was the only one out of any of them that had any feeling/emotion in his voice over. The rest of them lacked something even when compared to the original voice over that SE put out.
Rofl, I was thinking the exact same thing and I thought the original was better actually.
The winning entries are all pretty horrible. They all sound like people throwing their voice and trying to sound like something that is allegedly what, an Eorzean pirate? That's what got us into this bind of a horrible sounding trailer in the first place. What's up with no female winners? A couple of the female entries were genuinely interesting to my American ears and sounded much more authentic.
Grats to the winner!
Also...
"What did you expect? They'd come out quoting 'Macbeth'?"

Double double toil and trouble fire burn and cauldron bubble.
lol. Well nonetheless grats to you Rammsteinn.
I think that's going a little too far. There's no reason to think any of the judges were suddenly sexist. I think it's much more likely that in their difficulty picking a criteria to judge by they wound up with one that excluded females. Remember when Yoshi-P decided to get rid of all the player communities for the server merge? lol. Sometimes your final choice isn't your best. lol
Oh I wasn't trying to say they were in the least that they were sexist at all. I was pointing out that some people can and will consider it sexist. A point that I should have made more clearer when I typed up my post though I thought it would be slightly obvious when I didn't say that's so sexist but when I said it seems to be a bit sexist.
The winner sounds like SE hired Keith David xD (I like Keith David btw)
Alright, now that I actually listened to the other winners, I really liked Aqualin's entry best. Good job!
Mine just sounds a bit forced. o_O
The winner did a great job but
NOT EVEN A SINGLE FEMALE WON! THAT'S BS.
I'm sorry but if you are going to have a contest you need to not just decide that the voice should be male or female and then ONLY allow those folks to win. Certainly a deep growling voice is what I would have picked for a commercial, but to have that ON EVERY SINGLE CONTEST WINNER?
Not good, not good at all.
However congrats to all who won anyway.
I was hoping the winners would have more emotion. This was my entry for those that are curious.

After a bit of thought I realized I was being too harsh. Its not like the contest judges are professionals at voice acting either. That doesn't excuse what happened, but I understand a bit. They wouldn't necessarily know the importance of allowing different voice types in.
I may have only gotten runner-up, but thanks to everyone who seems to think I did a good job.
My mind is blown by the incredible quality of the dubs.
My personal favourites are:
Aqualin Riversong - Excalibur [Old man voice ftw!]
Shuichi Shadowstar - Ridill [So much expression in the voice!]
You sure!!! Bravo! :D
It depends on how the ladies decided to voice it their dub. Forcing the judges to pick ladies to be in the runner up just because we need both gender to be represented is BS, it would not be fair to begin with. It happens sometimes that a gender dominate, don't try to read sexism into it.
I can see where they were going for their wanted voices.
I had multiple ones recorded but I stuck with my "casual guy" voice.
Or maybe I submitted my raspy war vet voice. I actually can't even remember.
I knew I should have gone with my Movie Phone voice. :(
I liked Aqualin's the best.
It felt like it should have started with "Stay awhile, and listen..." :D
Wow.........mine was A LOT better than the last 2
Lol, no obviously not but if you are going play the part then you might as well play it right. Some of those in there sounded no better than Microsoft Sam reading the script. I just expected to be blown away by the winner and runner ups in comparison to the original and the original was better than most though then again that is just my opinion.
awww I really wish i could have seen mine....
i thought we could request ours here but not seeing anything on that
anyone know how you can get a copy or your entry?
At first I thought I might have had a chance....
Then I heard the grand prize winner...
then the runner up...
then the runners up...
... I had absolutely no chance. I think they all did a tremendous job. Wouldn't be surprised if they had professional backgrounds in this sort of stuff. I was only half surprised to see Aniero up there, only because I wasn't sure if he followed XIV closely enough to have entered. After listening to his voice for years now I'm not surprised at all to see him up there.
Congratulations to everyone who won!
You know what's funny. the last runner up video on that list sound like Deckard Cain of diablo lol.
^ lol Deckard Bane ;)
anyways, since some people might not check both of the dub forums, copying mine from the "show off your VA talent" thread.
I had my 2yr son help me out with mine I did it when the contest was first announced, and planned on changing it before I sent it. Time got away from me and I never got the chance to fix it or send it in. Thought I'd share it anyways. I was saying phrases and he was repeating me, and I attempted to mix it together (not well, hence having to re-do it :P)

I knew I should've done my Lafalell voice instead of going for the rough and gruff trailer voice. Aqualin's rocked everything though. That is forever headcanon for Louissioux now.
Kind of disappointed that not one female entry made it into the top five. :/ Did we not have that many women enter, or did the devs just not want a girl VA?
Though I, too, would have liked to see a female entry at the top... they have a smaller pool to pick from.
Perhaps the voices were too soft...? They seem to have stuck with a particular voice type: US sports announcer / Action Movie Trailer. Sadly, that's very hard to pull off with a female voice.
For example, here is my entry: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/20121173/Ma...e-Hyperion.mp3
Aside from the odd tinny noise that I didn't notice until I listened with headphones after I made my submission...
Compared to the winning entries, I lacked the enunciation, the power, and the emotion that the winners have. My voice is too soft, high-pitched, and thusly lacks that "epic movie trailer" touch; If I even attempted to go for that kind of quality, it would have been comical, but disastrous. Perhaps most of the other female entries had this issue too. We'll never know unless they post them.
I would have loved to win that moogle and soundtrack set, but I knew from the get-go that it was nigh impossible.
I don't think they were discriminating because girls, they just wanted to pick the voice that fits.
The winning entries are good, so let's just congratulate them -- you can't change the minds of the people who did the judging.
Each one had great moments, but that grand prize winner all but nailed it.
... No, I take it back. The 5th time through it still gives me goosebumps. Sign him up. Use it.
I would have liked to have heard a female voice, too, but think of how many pros fall short portraying a believable strong woman warrior. And with that material, I think the males had a very strong advantage.
