Beautiful video. I didn't much care for the voice acting but I don't expect every game (especially MMOs) to be Uncharted in that regard.
However this is not gameplay footage, so in the end it does absolutely nothing for my support or excitement for 2.0. In general when it comes to games, I no longer care about non-gameplay CG trailers and often times find them to be a bad omen because the company seems unwilling to show me how the game actually plays or handles. I expect SE will be showing some of that in the near future, but I personally get little to nothing from this video other than "that was pretty and the setting looks nice..."
In the end, 2.0 has to be fun and play well or I still (sadly) will not care. But this said I do appreciate all of the team (and Yoshi's) efforts to rebuild this game. I understand what it's like to pour your heart and soul into a product and hope that people will enjoy and appreciate the thing you have created. So it's not to say I don't appreciate your work (even if I end up not liking the game), or even don't appreciate this pretty video. But, it's not what I want or need to pass any judgment on 2.0.
Also I guess the people saying "We pass out and wake up later" were more or less right.
The german voice is ok
The english voice is meh
the next video better be in game of at least the citys. so they dont spoil everything.
SE is going to need a hell of a marketing campaign to break the stigma of the 2010 release. I plan to do what I can and spread the word. This game deserves it.
Actually I am fairly sure that SE shares your view. Hence why despite the video being ready in E3, they did not show it. Mind, whereas they did show offline gameplay they also asked it to be kept a secret, there is probably marketing strategy involved in that, but they did show gameplay in the big events they went to.
So at least have assurance that it seems that the point you made has actually been taken into consideration.
Why no choice to select male/female char in the Race menu?
Or they just leave it for the future use when they introduce male miqote and female galka? :P
SE in trailer: "GTFO of Ul'dah!" "Have fun in Gridania"
/sarcasm
Seriously though, looked amazing and the whole "time warp" concept could be cool....using The Echo and whatnot.

The voice-over killed it. D:
I'm still trying to find the time-frame in the trailer where Ul'dah is getting blown up. Can someone give me a time in the video so I can narrow it down?
saw the trailer in french and english and both had a questionable choice of VA
having said that it looks great of course but would have enjoyed some gameplay
looks awesome, can't wait!
Please don't kill my character
Serious question:
What about Cid and the Leaders? I swear if Merlwyb and Cid don't survive I am going to lose my shit. The sexy kitty Archon too...
I wonder if they will let you jump off those ledges in those Thanalan ruins to your death.
Pretty epic stuff. Leaves me wanting more tho.
That behemoth Had nothing to do In this trailer.

That's for everyone who stands around in Ul'dah and only uses the Ul'dah wards.
SE: "Don't want to use the other cities? right, let's see you use Ul'dah now!" KABOOM!!!!
Got to agree with comments saying the English voice-over for the trailer weren't perhaps the best choice. I feel bad saying it, as there is a real person out there who did it, and probably did their best—but the guy sounded like he were rushed into doing the voice acting, just as he had a serious case of slow bowel movement at the can. It ends up sounding strained, like a young voice trying to sound older and "epic". The French and German voices are miles better.
That being said, the new website looks great, and while there's no gameplay footage yet (which are surely coming), the trailer is well done, keeping with typical SE tradition. They sure know how to do their CG's. I wonder why there's only concept art of ruined buildings on the Ul'dah page though, while Gridania and Limsa Lominsa has screenshots of the locations like we know them.
I'm actually not so sure UD is totally gone. There's no way they'd remove an entire town in 2.0
However, that's sure as hell the best excuse for a good remodeling, lol. I wonder if they'll cover up the impact craters? O.O oh snap, what about our Adventuring Fellows?! ; . ; my raging nymphomaniac THM kitty better have survived!
Very awesome.
I don't get it. His voice is epic, the people complaining about his english voice must be the same idiots that always complain about english voices in japanese anime and video games.
Rule number 1 of fantasy cinematic voice acting - use a British accent.
It's a nifty concept, but in practice it's ended up being reaaallllly confusing sometimes knowing whether you're viewing an Echo or the present time (doubly so for new players who haven't had the concept of the echo fully explained yet). I remember the first time I played the main scenario, I had no idea how the chain of events unfolded as about half of them were in the past and half were in the present, with very little indication as to which was which.
Perhaps if they added some kind of obvious visual indicator (past events viewed in greyscale? I don't know) that you're looking at an Echoed event, it wouldn't be so bad.

I can't wait for 2.0! Thank you Square Enix for not giving up on Final Fantasy XIV, I hope the game will last for many years!
I understand that not everyone will share our opinion. However for those who think another voice actor would have been a better choice, I would like to think, we are not just complaining simply for the fact of our own personal distaste, but because SE could have done better.
The fact of the matter is that there are certain types of "voices" that sell in the North American market:
1. Movie Trailer Voice

2. British Voice

3. Sexy smooth female voice. (Sometimes, though male voices are more universal.)

I am sure there are others but, those come to mind.
If a business going to reintroduce a product that is in desperate need of a consumer base, financial gains and intrigue then you are going to need to utilize a voice over that is more marketable.
This game is already faltering do to its release reputation, SE needs to make sure every move they execute is 100% satisfactory (or at least appeals to market standards) or people will stop looking, stop being interested.
As petty as it sounds a voice over that is disliked by the majority of current clientele may most likely have a negative effect on any potential customers.
There is actually a very clear transition, there is a unique wooshing sound and a screen distortion.
However, the Main Quest actually does it's best to make it VERY unclear of what the hell is going on before you are explained about the Echo in the... L30-something quest? Yeah, that one. The one where all the main quests come together.
It's actually an interesting narrative tool.
Ok, just so we're perfectly clear and nobody has no false expectations...
