Eww, gross. No. If you're going to add a dog person race, make them look like Worgen from WoW or Werewolves from ESO.

Yes this! Hroths are still in the right direction in the beast people department IMO.
Good examples (from eastern properties)

Game really needs a tiny race alternative to being a potato... So why not just make them look like Chibi Furball Mode Korone? >.>
Game needs another tiny race like those tiny lunar rabbits or could have tiny dog race. I would love to see a fox race
So in this thread:
- People want more beast races
- People want more tiny races
- Others are bland and want Hyurs with a third eye as though that were innovative
Alright SE, here's your feedback, sort yourselves out

I don't get why people keep asking for beast races after Hrothgar
if they add Lupin or Loporrits or whatever the rats were called then people would just be complaining 24/7 about not enough customization and not enough gear because Lupin and rats can't wear hats nor, most likely, gloves (lopporits have viera ears so they probably cant either) and the hairstyles would almost definitely be connected to faces again
plus people who actually want these are a very small minority, so it's a ton of work for a race that'll probably have less players than Hrothgar
Squeenix's best move is to just keep adding more Kemonomimis since that's what most people who play this game actually want (me excluded, can't beat Au Ra)
I could see myself using a female Horothgar as a black mage just to make some fun content like, why don't dogs use ice spells? They go MIAUUUU in a band saw, and why do cats not use fire spells they go WOFF just before burning, and yes that's a small taste of my dark humor
Because in a perfect world, they will have figured out and ironed out the issues that they had with the Hrothgar.
And with the issues out of the way, heres is what we'd like to see next in terms of another Non-Humanoid / Human Looking Race. Assuming they could be made with no issues.
The latest addition to the Hildibrand quest line has rekindled my desire for playable Loporrits... >.>
The main problem with just go with Kemonomimi is that the Hrothgar version of that would basically be a Miqo'te. At worst(best!?!) Female Hrothgar might be of the same vein as Aisha Clan Clan from Outlaw Star. Au Ra is good I'll agree but I cant help but still feel a little cheated by not getting the more draconic/demonic version from the concept art.
I don't think that they should give up on more bestial races and settle with Kemonomimis just because they are not as popular. Variety is the spice of life and would liven up the FFXiV world.
And to add to this... it should be worth noting that while it wouldn't make an impressive dent on the numbers, a good reason why people shy away from Hrothgar to begin with is how poorly implemented it is. Other reasons include personal taste and the daft fear of being called a furry.
So you want Kemonomimis, SylvAlternate. Do you understand that that's no different than asking for Garleans? More hyurs with animalistic features doesn't change the fact that they're hyurs. It doesn't provide variety whatsoever. And I dare say, expand a little bit on the Miqo'te lore and you'll find easily a quick and easy way to insert any animal you want. Y tribe can be cats, M tribe can be dogs, Z tribe can be birds, V tribe can be Viera, L tribe can be Elez--I mean giraffes. On and on. You're not really breaking the mold there. At that point, there's nothing, and I mean NOTHING special about your race. Because you're no different than the N amount of other races that have animal traits. Oh so you're a girl with rat ears, well I'm a guy with bear ears, look at how diverse we are!!
Asking for more bestial races or shorter races at least promotes some variety. We can still have kemonomimi, and as you said quite correctly, IT SELLS. A LOT. But those options should be just that. Options. Not make an entire race out of "oh I have dog ears and not cat ears". Even the few traits these races would otherwise have are overall just so minor when you compare them to stuff like Au Ra, Hrothgar and Lalafell. Races that have a little bit more to their unique designs than just "copy-pasted Hyur with Tamamo Headband". Those races promote diversity a lot more than cat ears and cat tails. Just because it baits people with bland tastes into buying the game and fantasias, it doesn't mean that there's any inherent superiority in it. The only thing is has is money. And while that's fine and dandy from a business standpoint, the consumer end will find it distasteful.
I personally find every single iteration of Elder Scrools humanoids to look the exact same and waste a character slot. We really could have just done with Human, Elf, Orc, Lizard, Cat. But no, we have variations of Elves and Humans.
PSO2 at least shook it up, but you can't fool me: Newman are just elongated humans. I give a pass to Dewmans for at least trying to be different with a proper justification, but they too are lacking. If they added the Beast race from Phantasy Star Portable, it'd be way better.
GW2 shakes it up on every race except maybe the Norns. They're less glorified Roegadyn, just scaled up Humans. The rest are incredibly unique: beasts, goblins and plant people.
And in all those you'll find a demographic. It's fine to want Kemonomimi, but when you're literally describing various iterations of Miqo'te and Viera into individual races, you're just bloating the game with the exact same option, "but made special".
i still cant believe they gave us another cat-themed race instead of something cool like lupin. don't understand why they didn't make hrothgar 1:1 with ronso like the viera were directly 1:1 to viera from ff12
The issues they had with Hrothgar were poor design decisions and massive underestimation of how much people like having hats and hair.
Speaking as someone who'd gladly play a wolf race if done well, I don't have any faith at all in SE's ability to do a beast race any kind of justice. They certainly haven't so far.
Unless they gave us Mt. Gagazete it wouldnt work.
Viera at least got an Area from Ivalice, We'd need an area from Spira.
Yes, precisely what Im talking about.
Thats part of the issues they ran into, because such a non-human shaped head would cause the issue of Headgear. They haven't put in the time to address this yet. They would need to redesign alot of gear, and/or make some lv1 glams to replace some gear such as many types of Helmets.
Then of course just do what Modders did for many of the other head pieces that currently cant fit our Lions.
they could've just called bozja gagazet instead. it feels like they're incredibly averse to inserting overt ff9/ff10 references into xiv and that makes me sad
Gagazet is an icy mountain.
Bozja's an arid plateau.
It wouldn't really work?
Plus, it was likely a retroactive addition, as Bozja was already established for Cid's lore. They could have just made a different thing altogether instead and not tie Cid's lore to it. The worst part is that the lore for the Lost says that they prefer the cold mountains... you know, like the Ronso. Ah but Hrothgar lore is riddled with Sharlayan misconceptions, and we don't see that mentioned anywhere else in-game so why even bother?
not really, no
notice the "me excluded" bit? I don't want any new races, perfectly fine with the current ones (or if all of them except FemRa were removed, or especially if just Lalafell were removed)
just saying that from a business perspective, the best thing they can do is keep adding them
also I just hate furries so any actually ""attractive"" beast race is a negative to me
I mean, you're not wrong that from a business perspective it'd be a thing. But you'd end up oversaturating the game with it and drive more people out than in with that, as creativity does win over people's favours.
which one hurt you? :p

At first, I thought Hrothgar would be like this
'-' I'm not defending anyone, calm yourself good sir? "Oh you're defending your avatar against my joke, so I'm gonna be snarky", no I'm just telling you "big cats can't meow nor can they purr, and it's actually one of the things that separates Pantheras from Felids".
Yeah, I'm just saying "lions don't purr". I'd say it if I were an Au Ra, a Miqo'te and even a Roe like your avatar. I know I defend Hrothgars a lot, that's true. But this is really besides the point, Aron. Your joke just wasn't that good.
they have the capacity to make something beastly that also isn't hunched and doesn't use the roegadyn skeleton/body which results in gear looking stretched but they chose to just make it as unappealing as possible to people who aren't really really into that kind of aesthetic. i'd have been happy with lupin (tall, buff, beastly, not hunched) but i guess they found knock-off ronso to be the better choice
YES! Still hoping this will happen. If I yell loud enough on this post, do you think Yoshi will harken to our pleas
I vote for the first doggo race to be based off of Furball Korone from Hololive!
Yes! Dog,Fox or Wolf please!
