The process to close steam process has worked, and i agree with you, this kind of problem need to be refund somehow

Everything is worth trying! I haven't been able to do this yet.

I've had this problem since the big 6.2 update like many of you. I'm glad there is a workaround by force quitting steam while having the launcher opened, but damn after a whole month Square didn't even acknowledge this problem exist.. are they even trying to fix it?

Try opting into the Steam beta under settings, I just did this and now the game seems to be loading with Steam still running.

Glad that worked for you! I've used the beta since before this issue aka 6.2 released, so for me that's sadly not an option to try. I really hope they at least acknowledge a problem exists rather sooner than later... I'm getting tired of waiting for fixes.

I should mention I was still on DX9 SINCE dx11 was not working this way. Its been frustrating to say the least, sad part is stuck deciding to renew or not and lose my FC house because of this.

With DX9? Didnt work under DX11 sadly

the clowns at SE still didn't even acknowledged a problem, let alone do something about it. Force-closing Steam before hitting the Play button is the only way to get the game running, unfortunately

It seems the culprit is "steamservice.exe". You don't need to close the entirety of steam processes, just steamservice.exe.

I try close only steamservice.exe but game still not launch . I must force stop whole steam for open ...

Try this:

1. Open Steam
2. Go to the Steam Folder in Program Files then /bin/ directory.
3. Locate and delete the steamservice.exe
4. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and find the steamservice.exe then close it.
5. Try opening the game with steam open.

It should work normally as long as you don't restart steam, because it will redownload the file when you restart it and you will have to start from step 1 again.

It's because steam launched the process again. To avoid this you should delete the file before finishing the task.

After the nvidia update this is not working. The Black Screen just sits there and you cant even close the screen all you can do now is restart the computer. When are they gonna solve this problem? Cant believe i paid for this. Unbeliveable. Like they dont even check forums i guess. Cause this has been happening since august. This is the hottest topic in forum and they still didnt say anything about it? When you contact steam support it just sends you here. In here there is nothing... Why am i even trying to do this stupid stuff when i pay for it they should be doing something instead like its pointless. Wtf is this?

I know for sure its Steam related since I made a free trial account non steam and its been running without any crashes. Thinking of trying to setup a VM and see if it crashes that way in steam that way. Might report back if I get any results

Hi,

Just wanting to add my own experience, I ran into the same Black screen AFTER logging in and pressing the play button as everyone else here, began after the 6.2 patch dropped and continued until, after much searching and re-installing the entire game I came across this thread.

The previously mentioned steps have worked for me:

1. Run via normal steam launcher.
2. Log into the launcher but do not yet press the Play button.
3. Using Task manager, end all running Steam tasks (trying to exit steam itself won't work as it will force FF14 to close before it will exit).
4. Once all Steam tasks are ended, press Play on the FF14 launcher, everything now works as expected.

Hope this helps with any technical diagnosis for the Moderators to pass on to the Developers.

Loving FF14, even more now I can again access it :)
