But like... why? What is being lost by you arriving slightly late to the fight? You can just pull it off and the fight goes on like normal. It's not much more than a little rude.

It's only bad for DPS to pull when they run away from the tank or if they get someone cleaved (or if the healer or tank are stuck in a cutscene, in which case, lol I guess).

Though, this reminds me of a time I was in an Alexander fight and as everyone was waiting for a cutscene to finish, a RDM was slowcasting, cancelling each time before it went off... but then it did, and I was so startled a DPS was killed in the time before I hit Provoke.

Had an SoS roulette that wiped 4 times in a row to the QTE because someone failed it (and wouldn't admit it or fix it). I half-suspect they were intentionally trolling. Group eventually disbanded. They really need to remove that "everyone passes or you wipe" part of that fight from normal mode, imo.

Reminds me of a 90 MNK I ran into while tanking at one point. Noticed things were dying very slowly, and started watching buffs and animations. Noticed the monk was nearly always in Form II....and then that he was just repeating the Bootshine animation. Over. And Over. And Over. No Dragonkick buff, no Opo-opo auto-crit. Just spamming an unbuffed 180 potency attack on nearly every GCD. He occasionally used ones from the other forms, but seemed to do so essentially entirely at random (I saw him put up Twin Snakes exactly twice). Mentioned that Monk generally wants to be cycling through the 3 forms, at least hitting buttons that are lit up (by being in the form) rather than just Bootshine, and he told me that he'd watched a Monk guide, knew what he was doing, that it'd gotten him to 90 just fine, and to pull faster (I was already wall-to-walling and murdering everything, because Warrior). /sigh

It's more than simply "a little rude". I pull most bosses in a rather specific way in order to get them positioned where I want, facing the way I want, to make the jobs of the DPS easier. Most bosses, for example, spawn near the back of their arena, but are best tanked dead-center. If you don't let me (the tank) pull, I can't get that initial positioning by virtue of how I time (and position) my pull, and thus either the boss is just in a less convenient/useful position, or I have to spin them around as I move them into that better position.

For trash, it actually just straight up slows down the pull in many cases. If I'm getting initial aggro, they're running towards me, which means I can Overpower once and keep running without missing a stride. If you pull, I have to chase them down, pull aggro back off you, and then go back to running towards the next pack.

If the tank is being super reluctant/slow, ok. But if you're pulling just because you're 10' ahead of the tank, have an ounce of patience. The extra ~second isn't going to kill you. Really, the only time I pull as DPS is if I have a proc about to fade and the tank is already headed for the pull.

as a tank main i always find myself annoyed when i see non-sprout melee players run away as far as they can when it comes to spreading out. i understand if you're new and you still don't know what they mean, especially because spread markers tend to be the least consistent of the various markers.

and don't even get me started on red mages and dragoons who jump back without thinking and land right ontop of a poor caster/ranged player.

Thank you. I almost quit leveling SGE because I thought it was me until I noticed I wasn’t having problems with any of the other tanks. It’s all good now and I don’t struggle with DRKs now that I have SGE at 90. But going from 80 - 90 was demoralizing sometimes.

WHM and AST were a breeze by comparison.

I did say it only bothers me sometimes. I'm starting to get better at tanking, and if people run ahead of me, I tend to think it's because I'm not going fast enough for their standard. Fair. I speed up, if that's the case. People should not be running ahead of the tank and pulling, and if they do, they're tanking the mobs until I peel them. I don't care how much longer they've been tanking than I have, they're in that duty as a DPS, they will be a DPS until their job icon is blue, and not red.

EDIT: Having said that, if I'm making any rookie mistakes that they'd like to try and help me rectify, I will happily listen to criticism and advice.

P2N : Zone in the 3 other dps are all BLM and obviously new what with the viewing cutscene icon (one of the tanks as well) So I steel myself for what will probably be a rough run. Hoo boy was it ever, I pretty much turned from RDM to REZ mage cause apparently the healers didn't know the fight either. Cherry on top? Not a single comm /cry.

Soooooo if you are going to be tanking in the wiping city by the twelve you require more then Sheltron.

Seriously there, forcing the two newbie healers to deal with your not mitigating not tanking your ad during mega death boss booty on their second time. This is not the Crystal Tower, you may actually be required to perform the roll you queued up as.. the heck is wrong with tanks in FF14 land?

Has multiple tanks leveled alllllll the way to 70 and Gunbreaker at the level 90. The very definition of failing upwards.

If he is new to Pala and didn't do to much harder+newer dungeons he may still have the mindset of mitigation for trash and barely anything on boss. And Sheltron is hard to judge in what it brings if you didn't do that more demanding ST dungeons. It's not the first time I've heard of weird Pala tanks and I'm leveling one now - it's bit weird feeling compared to Warrior leveling, even before heal-trash-ing.

Since I primarily play healer and ranged jobs, the rare times I play melee I forget that don't need to move away to narnia for spread. :p

I don't often vote to dismiss someone, but when a combat mentor (or whatever the name is) with close to every job at 90 walks in with his SMN wearing 560 job gear and 530 accessories, entirely unmateria'd, doing half my DPS (as healer) on single target, that's where I draw the line. Too bad the rest of the group voted against it and while I considered taking them hostage until they kicked me instead I decided not to; not their fault SE lets people abuse their horrible matchmaking and non-existing roulette requirements.

That's another note in the 'mentors are absolute trash by default and the good ones don't make the rule' book.

The good mentors typically have the crown hidden, it's very rare to find a good mentor that shows their crown. Not saying all the ones who display it are terrible, just the good ones are a drop of water in the ocean of mentors.

I don't trust other people enough for them to spread where needed so that, when I am playing melee, I can keep attacking. I will take the initiative to move when I need to so that I will personally be safe. I've been chased by way too many people when trying to move last second to dodge while staying in range(usually it's the healer who does this...)

I'm the opposite, tbh. When I'm on a melee and need to spread (ex. Extreme 2 in Endwalker), I pick a spot, move there, and hold my ground. Most people flinch before I do. And it means that when they flinch, I'm not also trying to move and running into them inadvertently.

It does help playing Reaper, though. In that fight in particular, if it's Out -> Spread, I'll teleport out, and use my portal as a handy "this is my spot!" marker =P

Ended up in The Dead Ends on my WHM and left wanting to hide in shame. lol.

All was going just fine up until the 2nd boss. Towards the end of the boss, the two DPS and myself all ended up dead because we had stacked together, then we all moved too soon and went BOOM. Woops! We all cheered as the PLD whittled down the last 10%. Was a bit embarrassing, but all was well in the world again...until the next pull.

So we're doing our thing, both packs get grabbed, and then I end up dead pretty much instantly. Not quite sure what happened, but I must have had aggro on a couple of mobs, hadn't adjusted accordingly, and it was a wipe. So while that one probably has some shared fault, the shame of it all was real. I knoooow I can do better, and I didn't.

When I keep making stupid mistakes, I tend to get feeling a bit...frazzled. And then more bad tends to happen. So on the last boss, I'm trying to heal up the tank and I hit my CURE button by accident. Not an oGCD, not cure II, basic cure. So then I'm like "OH GAWD, they're going to think I'm one of thoooose healers". lol. Geezus, I was a mess.

To everyone's credit, it was actually a rather fun run. Everyone was chatty, and supportive, and joking through the mishaps. I do wish I could have given out more comms in appreciation of dealing with the extra excitement. :X

You should've known how this was going to go down the second you saw that crown on them. The crown is basically code for "I consider glue a food group." The few mentors that are actually good at the game typically leave their crowns turned off so they don't get lumped in with all the chaff.

I'm the same way sometimes. If I get REALLY focused on putting a glamour together I will forsake just about anything in game, even I've been waiting in a queue for a while. It has to be perfect or I'm not doing anything else.

Bro, I'm the exact same way. If my glam is off even by one milimetre, I nope out any instance. Hell, I don't even want people in the overworld to see that. Where's a paperbag glam when you need to sprint back to the inn?

Just had a 70+ WAR in Doma Castle and they used Rampart ONCE, not another single mitigation in the whole dungeon.

It's been a long time, but I had a person who not only never went and unlocked their job. They also felt the need to troll an entire alliance. The party managed to kick them right before we got to CoD. Yes they were the tank. We asked them to turn their stance off and not to use voke. Also told them how they were making it difficult for the rest of the group by not having PLD unlocked. I noticed before the gate was down. The other tanks noticed it around the 2nd boss.

One day I popped into an in-progress Heroes' Gauntlet. There was not a bard, but an archer in the party. In a level 80 dungeon.

Them lalafells man. I do understand some people do it for RP. Can you finish a dungeon with a person missing their job stone? Sure, but holy heck is it just not fun. Especially when they're missing not only skills but other useful things.

The only worse thing is back during SB I'd get Titan Hard or Extreme and have people wonder why myself and everyone else who could res would just stop. It's because they were wearing gear that barely got them ilv and they didn't have enough HP even when not weakened to survive the later multiple room wides. Then they ask if you're being a bully to them.

One of the big reasons I wish FFXIV had WoW's option to teleport out of a dungeon, and then rejoin it, without leaving the group, even in match-made content.

I still don't understand why they don't make, well, literally everything level 50 and up require a job stone (except, I guess, in an unrestricted party, because why not). There's literally never a valid reason to not have your job stone equipped by then. Between 30 and 50, I make allowance for unfamiliarity, as well as the fact that you can actually exceed level 30 by a decent band before clearing enough MSQ to unlock jobs with the Preferred Server buff. But all of the level 50 content, and literally everything post-ARR, just flat out mandate a job stone. Especially in duty-finder matchmaking. Every single case of a job stone being missing is either someone made a mistake (which a requirement would serve as an effective reminder) or someone trolling.

They also need to be a bit more aggressive with minimum itemlevel requirements for certain content types. The EW Trial 2 someone mentioned above, with one of the tanks wearing full 480 gear (at level 89), is a great example of the system very obviously not doing the job it should be doing.

I was healed as a GNB by a CNJ a couple of weeks ago in Aurum Vale.
The guy popped literally naked and when I asked what happened I was told he “lost my gear and my soulstone during an adventure”…
We managed to clear but I was living on my CD’s and I had quite a fruit diet this day.

If they've played primarily ranged classes and are now playing a melee class for the first time, then that could explain it.

My main is a black mage. I've just gotten Dragoon to level 90 and it's hard for me to not run when spread markers come up. Because that's the habit I've built up. Spread marker? Run far away because I can attack from far. Oh yea, I'm on Dragoon, guess I'm lobbing my spear for a few.

My worst nightmare was when I was queued up for MSQ roulette and decided to get a few new gear pieces. Right as I put one on, and immediately before I hit the button on my glamour plate, my queue popped so I had to watch the cutscenes with a very ugly headpiece.

I was DPS, so requeuing would have lost me about half an hour... That'll learn me.

I've been only playing healers for the past month due to finger issues. They're getting better, so I'm leveling DNC. The lack of responsibility I have feels... so weird. Cue me using Shield Samba on raidwides and big pulls and thinking I'm Helping! :rolleyes:

Nothing wakes you up in the morning quite like Titania in Trial roullete with new people.

The reaper with Augmented Radiant gears is 4th on the aggro list.
Compared to my Bard with a mix of Limbo and Moonward gears on the 2nd.

I don't know what's wrong. Broken gear, maybe?

Another day of being forced out of Bunker due to insane lag. Thanks NTT, I sure freakin' wish you would change after all these years.

(Traceroutes keep showing constant issues along the NTT pipeline, and a massive jump in ping. Gonna be very miffed if this keeps up all the way through the day - I really don't want to have to cancel FC map night. :c )

I wish I had any stories to share. But DD queues are so very long so I have none...

Maybe they felt like dying

Queued up into 10s roulette, got Ampador Keep normal. Pulls here are usually quite easy, especially with the party comp we had. PLD SAM DNC and me on SGE. I noticed the 80 Honorbound relic on the pld but strangely enough had the 80 Shield of Light for their secondary which meant they had to have done SoSEX, so I believed that they knew what they were doing.

Ah, haha, no. They didn't.

They were a full 90 omnicrafter and had 2 healers at 90, and yet, did not bother with a single defensive cooldown on their single pulls. I told them they could pull more, but was met with silence; and certain points during the first hallway up to the first boss I had ran ahead, not realizing the tank had decided to just camp down and do single pulls for the entirety of my time there. Meanwhile they would only aoe twice and go straight into single-target. It almost made me think they were an upgraded bot.

And this was on top of the dnc missing aoes on the small pulls the tank was doing. The only one that was really doing anything from the aggro meter on the party HUD was the sam. They were constantly aoe'ing and #2 on the list, helping me melt mobs faster.

Before the first boss the tank decided to just barely move around, as if they were trying to mob dodge the patrolling armors. They're going to aggro you anyway because of their radius, bro. You may as well grow a backbone as a PLD tank since you can easily go ham on pulls and survive.

We finally get to the first boss and endured. The first boss took much longer than I'm normally used to seeing go down: the big golem in the back almost completed a lap to the entrance of the room. I'm used to seeing the big golem not even making it to halfway. Once we finally downed it, I realized the dungeon would take far, far longer than it normally should, especially with a tank that feels like they're a bot.

I excused myself and took the 30.

Getting a SGE co-healer as SCH always makes me sigh because 9 times out of 10 they are spamming their shields, and I have to watch as my big adlo deploy is overwritten by their smaller ones. I get when it's done by accident, which is why I usually wait for them to go first at the start of pulls, but sometimes it'll be before everyone takes damage and my shields have been up for several seconds, meaning everyone takes more damage.

Not that I've seen it be the difference between life and death (yet), but it's like, guess I won't use a cool part of my kit then.
