We really need to step down for a bit and look back.
Garlemald spoilers in the tag.
I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that Quintus's suicide made things better for everyone. Quintus giving everyone the freedom of choice to accept help from the Eorzeans is what turned things around. His suicide is presented as him being rigid and unwilling to compromise on his faulty beliefs despite seeing that the remaining legions had. Everyone even points out that they wanted to offer aid before he did something rash that he couldn't take back.
No
It isn't needed.
No offense, but if people need trigger warnings to play a video game, then the game isn't for you. Games already give you a content and ratings warning, you don't need a trigger warning.
why everyone so sensitive ? I’ve struggled with depression for 11 years and this didn’t bother me.
Suicide once had a long tradition Japan as the honorable out. Endwalker’s scene seemed like a direct rebuke of that. Far from being honorable the moment is shown as one man’s disgrace. He abandons his people to their fate because he’s too rigid to accept change.
I felt this scene was written by a Japanese author for their audience. To challenge an outdated former cultural norm. It wasn’t written for the NA audience.
To the Japanese audience I suspect it carries a different weight.
I don't believe that the story was seeking to blame Quintus or the other Garleans who were reluctant to accept aid from the Ilsabard Contingent.
Endwalker finale spoilers below:
Especially when Endwalker ends with Alphinaud reflecting upon the situation and returning to the region with his sister:

He didn’t abandon them though necessarily. Lucia even says afterwards that he may have done what he did to give his people the freedom they deserved so they would be taken in, because while under his command they wouldn’t back down. He was giving them hope in a roundabout way. It was the honorable way out for him, he passed on whilst still staying firm to his beliefs instead of living in a world where his beliefs would be tarnished and altered.
I had to take a break from EW msq for a while because it was so depressing for me. It was not as much the scene you quoted above as it was other overlying themes that were repeated continuously. After the break from msq grinding, I was fine and went on to continue and really enjoy it. Endwalker is by far my favorite of all the expansions.
I think the warning that SE has at the launch of the game is sufficient enough to let us know some things will trigger people.
The totality of the Endwalker message is very positive.
It is all about how the real purpose of existence is the journey of life. It’s not about suffering not celebrating but the process of being. Live in love, and you have your meaning and purpose.
Endwalker is all about rejecting the idea that existence is suffering.
That one NPC chose the coward’s way out and abandoned his people and his duty to their fate was to my eyes a message of why such a choice is wrong. It left his people in a state of desperation they had to be rescued from. And it was only by rejecting him that they began to recover.
This goes against what Lucia says though, and they wouldn’t give us her perspective as the player unless it held at least a modicum of truth. He didn’t abandon his people, he knew his choice would help solidify their protection. If he wanted to screw them over he’d have told them to stay there and not leave. He told them beforehand they were relieved. I think it’s a bit too easy for people to critique someone when they’re in a horrific situation none of us will ever even be close in having to live through. He did what at that point he deemed necessary to keep his people alive while still keeping his own morals and values alive. The Garleans are a proud people who died from the very likes of the people who were rescuing them. It’s the sad reality of that world. I would hardly consider what he did cowardice, as it takes a lot to take your own life. Again it’s easy for people to judge when they aren’t in that situation. But even Lucia, a defector understood why he most likely did what he did, and that’s what resonates.
In my opinion, it was very tastefully done.
You see the aftermath, but it cuts before you actually see the act.
I feel like art and stories aren't allowed to be serious and provocative anymore. Artists and writers are being pushed to dullen their stories for fear of 'triggering' certain individuals at the detriment of the story as a whole.
I applaud FFXIV for not pulling punches and writing stories that have darker themes.
Also, I am not too sure about this but the ESRB rating for this game DOES include 'Violence'. Am I to assume this also includes suicide?
*sigh* man.... what?
If there was a warning of violent nature, it would IMMEDIATELY spoil the cutscene, what made it good for me was the shocking nature of it.
Se is not responsible to manage or protect your poor mental health. That's both your and the Therapist's job.
I'm all for a more mature, extreme, or just plain realistic approach to the story rather than flowers and sunshine (Which is something I dislike about the last part in EW 6.0 MSQ)
How does one report consistent and deliberate necroing?
Then we need trigger warnings for trigger warning
because my mental state is extremely unstable. It's within my human right to DEMAND it for the sake of my safety

might as well add a trigger warning at the beginning of the game, like when u create a character or something, how about that?
So between me making this post, and now, I had a friend actually take their life this way, so I believe EVEN MORE that we should have trigger warnings. It happened last year exactly one year ago. My closest friend was convinced that their debt meant they needed to end their suffering, because they had no family to lean on. Their family was abusive to them growing up, and did stuff that I won't say in this forum. Its not appropriate.
If I had seen this scene after reading the police report, and having to grieve, I may have reacted in a way that wasn't safe. I had an attempt of my own half a year ago from now, because the dread of losing a dear friend to suicide is HORRIBLE. I cannot put into words how much it feels when someone you love takes their life. Especially when you have to see the lifeless body of your friend with a shotgun to the face. I still get awful dreams about it. This has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to grow through. To this day it is the hardest death that I grieve.
Therefore I believe that before this scene in Endwalker a brief but to the point content warning would be helpful. All it needs is something along the lines of stating the emotional, and visual intensity of the following cutscenes. A little blurb about mental health, and rest before viewing them would be wonderful. I imagine anyone who went through what I did who has yet to still witness this scene in the game is going to have a hard time, and they absolutely deserve to play this game like everyone else. One cutscene they aren't prepared for shouldn't be detrimental to that.
So to the troll that necro'd this thread. Great job bringing a subject back that I am struggling to deal with on my dear friends death anniversary. Pat yourself on the back, I hope you feel good knowing that you made a real life event even harder for someone to face.
Research show that having a trigger warning just make it worse and does not help https://nationalpost.com/news/world/trigger-warnings
TitanMen is Damian's biggest fan. Every time he comes back he always necros Damian's threads lmao
