It's terrible how they make content that anyone can do instead of making content for a small percentage of the player base only.
Male viera is barely content, and is only for a small percentage of the player base - who are going to switch off and complain about the limitations after EW.. We can only hope after 4 years SE actually gets around to addressing some of these limitations.
MPK complaining about toxicity.
The dev team a long time ago promised they wouldn't genderlock races. I strongly suspect the reason we didn't get male Viera and female Hrothgar was due to limited resources to spend on it.
So this is really just them making sure they're not going back on their word.
And yes, there is an active demand for both. I mean, all people are asking for is both races to be finish, because they were released incomplete.
It looks like they're using the male Au Ra frame for the body, so they've likely cut out a chunk of work by doing that, because they'd probably not have to do a lot to adapt gearsets for them as the version for male Au Ra problem work out of the box or almost out of the box.
Ultimate is only for a small percentage of the player base, should they cut that and make more stuff everybody has access to?
I feel like they pool some resources into stuff that suits almosts everyone and resources to suit different niches.
So really when people get salty about a niche being satisfied, there's a chance they've suited a niche that suits them too. I mean, I'm in the niche of people who love Au Ra and they gave us male and female versions.
I mean they already cut an ultimate and pushed a mostly complete one back by a year. This effects the HC/MC playerbase. They've also seemingly cut All Saint's Wake, which effects the casual. All this for a fetish bait based race that is probably going to have extreme limitations, but hey it appeases a tiny part of the fanbase right? Screw the rest of us, eh?
I sincerely doubt the same resources that go into making a race also go into Ultimate and All Saints Wake. They're different skillsets and different teams. What's more accurate is "this is probably why we don't have hats on them yet".
And no, not screw the rest of us. You're having to wait longer for an ultimate, they had to wait a whole expansion for what they wanted.
And it's not like there's been a global pandemic going on that has already created sizeable delays or anything? Or changing how they work in a less efficient style of work environment.
This is not satisfying niches. This is wasting a disproportionate amount of resources on those niches.
When is the last time the other races got some customization? How is it ok that they're spending an entire expansion's worth of effort to satisfy a niche of players who will drop Male Viera two weeks after Endwalker release?
Thread topic: "think of all the glamours and hairstyles that got cut for male bunnies"
80% of responses: "THE ART TEAM DOESN'T WORK ON ULTIMATE IDIOT"
Get your cheapshots on mpk all you like but at least read what they say before responding lmfao
I don't care about ultimate. I've never even done it, but it has it's place. Anyway, they are already cutting it, they are bringing us 48-man content, where 75% of the raid can be carried, due to all the casuals.
Male viera are looking to be limited male miqo'te with bunny ears. I guess ERPers will love the race regardless.
It makes sense it would affect All Saints Wakes. It requires making new assets, new glamour items which requires new assets for each race/gender pair.
Ultimates on the other hand reuses assets.
Casuals will definitely be punished harder than people who do real content.
I get the hype around getting something you want, especially after many within the community said it was not going to be happen.
Even still I wish SE would be transparent and tell us what customization options were axed, having to funnel the resources into making the missing genders.
Or I wish they did a community poll or something. I personally still stand by the fact I think this was a bad idea. I think they should have used those resources into adding hairstyles to the already existing viera and hrothgar. Used those resources to make a commitment to at the very least making to so any new headgear can be used by both viera and hrothgar. Even if they did not promise hats, still would be nice if new hats and headgear that is released works for every race.
I know we will never know.
A disproportionate amount of resources? What about the resources they gave every other race (except Hrothgar, which we know is coming) to make two genders?
And I don't think it's as sizeable in resources as it might have been, it looks like they're repurposed the male Au Ra torso for them, which depending on how they've approached it could save tones of resource when it comes to making gear fit. So it's possible most of the work went into the head models (which they could probably have used the female heads as a base rather than model new ones), into the hairstyle and animation. So it might not have been as resource heavy as it sounds.
And when was the last time other races got some customization? This is just them bringing those two races up to the SAME standard as the other races.
I am legit confused why making steps to finish an unfinished race is such a point of contention? Maybe I can get arguments against adding new races and saying maybe they shouldn't have added Viera and Hrothgar, but I'd think wanting a completed race should be the bare minimum expectation?
Especially after the devs said they wouldn't genderlock races.
It's not even special treatment.
I'm really failing to understand why people are mad about the devs keeping their word? Like...they said a while ago that there would be more Viera/Hrothgar stuff and now we're here. Ya'll had plenty of time to come to terms with that happening at some point. I get that cut content sucks and something has to suffer for other things to be implemented (especially with the staff & money environment 14 has right now) but it's kind of a bit stupid to say that "No one is going to use this." or "This is just for ERPs." I would think Yoshi-P (who literally is against in game brothels and tells people to report them) wouldn't do this for the purpose of people popping boners. Let's be real now. I'm in a pretty large FC and everyone that was online during the FF announcement was pumped for male Viera (a lot are not involved in the RP scene whatsoever).
I personally would love harder content too, but this whole thread is a weird way of handling it. Then again, it's a troll thread so *shrug*.
MPK are you taking a shot every time someone says that you said that they sacrificed Ultimate for bunny boys? I know you present yourself as a charicature but that seems to have been distorted even more at this point lol
While everyone complaining about possible cut glamour, I am just here still waiting for the 2017 Korean dress to arrive in NA datacenter.
We can hope they have a package of those when they announce and flesh out what we know about the Male Viera announcement. I hopeful they will address that although it might not be as extensive as we would like. Giving the current races nothing would be a terrible slap in the face to those users given they're been waiting now almost two years.
I'm personally happy to see the racial addition and a promise of female Hrothgar to come in the future.
Relative to what's been cut or delayed I would say that is more due to the corona virus than anything else at this point. We have still to learn more about the xpac before we can make any decisions about what might have been cut from it.
Kinda thought Hrothgar was a waste of resources, could have just been NPCs all along like the lupin/wolf characters you see in Yanxia. But hey I'm not the only one paying sub here, bit of a tightrope to please every single player with X or Y content.
As for the All Saints Wake argument, literally it's all just reused assets for the most part. New glamour/items don't even need to be added, the Haukke redesign already exists as do the activities you could do inside the manor. Male Viera would barely effect this, if Yoshi just decided to drop the event this year then it is what it is. Prefer resources to be given to content that lasts more than 3 weeks honestly....
Ultimate is a content that millions watch on stream and has more publicity than someone playing a bunny boy. And they never promised they won't genderlock. Stop spreading lies about the dev team. They did that out of their own accord. Not for a made up promise you guys are circulating.
I remember reading something along those lines when they decided to not genderlock Miqo'te and how it's a mistake to genderlock races, but as I can't find a quote and everything Google turns up is to do with Viera and Hrothgar, I'll concede in accepting it's possible either I've got it wrong or the source was unreliable, as we are talking years in the past.
But it doesn't really draw away from my point that this is them finishing two unfinished races.
Content is being created to cater to all possible playstyles. Not only casual and raiding playstyles have priority, the amount of content increased over the time. Be it just some silly instruments in game (performance), dedicating yourself to PVP, crafting&gathering, decorating houses and just simply for the story.
Nobody should have any right to claim "this content got cut for "MY" type of content". Its silly and pretty much immature. If you feel that much bored of FFXIV, go play other games. Stop wasting your breath in the forums.
Pretty much, they trying to accommodate all sorts. Sometimes it means resource gets put somewhere else to do that and then somewhere else after that.
There's stuff/content added that doesn't affect or benefit me and it's resource that could have benefitted me, like fixing healers and healing, which is my biggest complaint, but I don't begrudge other people getting what they want. Heck most of my healer feedback if anything has been how it can keep people like me happy and other people they're trying to accommodate for happy.
Male Viera being added isn't the thing that is taking development resources away from additional battle content. That would be stuff like the Animal Crossing / Farmville style Island Sanctuaries. What do you think took away more resources and manpower from you getting a new Ultimate? Them creating their own version of Farmville with all the new instanced zones, new gameplay mechanics for raising crops and livestock, the server code to accommodate them, etc... or them adding some additional character customization options to one of the player races?
And even at that, I could wager... Why bother with Ultimates when just a tiny fraction of the playerbase actually sees it when its current content?
But I'm not raining on those raiders parades just because I don't care about that content or I don't think it's relevant... In the end, they have to cut one thing or the other.
This topic has gone on for 16 pages despite being the most barebones bait imaginable but something I've found wierd is people who say things list island sanctuary or ishgard is the reason for no ultimate or did when we've been told that it's not worked on by the same teams. Battle design and Housing/Lifestyle content have thier own individual teams devoted to developing them so they shouldn't be affecting each other whatsoever, it's that it takes time to develop unique encounters which that team has literally mentioned before. Whether or not you believe that is up to you but don't go spreading something unsubstantiated like it's fact because your unhappy about it
Is this...really neccessary or relevant information to know?
I think them telling us what we lost to make something happen would just create more toxicity.
If Male Viera do in fact get dropped or arnt super popular when EW comes out, then Male Viera supporters might become targets of harassment
"We lost a chance/this content was cut because of this stupid race" might hit people pretty hard if the said X content had to suffer for Male Viera
200k views on the reveal video. The reaper and NA expansion video both surpassed 400k and even the JP expansion video is over 400k. Yup, the most talked about thing on youtube. Where are you pulling your data from rofl?! Trending vids on youtube can pull millions in one day. It's not even trending on twitter!
Because adding doa races is a waste of sub money that can be used on actual content or even casual content that can be enjoyed by more people?
We even lost the Halloween events thanks to male Vieras. Instead of adding hats to female verias/horthgars or more hair styles for other classes, the devs thought it was a good idea to add more dead content that was only added because of virtue signaling.
And the reason you know what we love due to the implementation of mviera is? There hasnt been a single more requested feature as far as Im aware ever n the story of the game, this just shows the devs will work to do what the community wants and that they hear our feedback, if it was such a waste of resources, then ppl would have made threads or complained about it enoug hso that they would have abstained from releasing them, but whenevr they did they got about 10-30 likes from the same ppl who were either trolling or just angry about the demand for male viera being really big, while the petition thread has about 2000 likes, and no other thread comes even close to that. So how is that adding 'dead content' that apparently players arent going to enjoy or dont want
Just take a look at that male viera thread. Now they're compaining about height. Clearly this just another fetish race. SE bending the knee to this is disgusting
Nope, ppl are sharing their excitement and comparing heights between mviera and fviera since its still 6 motnhs away and we are most eager to see their details, such as height, there isliterally not a single person i nthe male viera thread complainging other than those who didnt want male viera to be added, ppl are celebrating and they are either extremely happy or simply comenting that they think x or y thing could be changed, which considering they still havent been released, its a great time to do so (like those asking for a more 'manly' looking face). Also for the 'fetish race' argument, it got old about 1.5 years ago.
That was largely PR speak we know that the pandemic impacted development, I am more of a transparent fellow, I would have loved to see a list of features that could have been added but due to the resources had to be axed. As a project manger these kinds of choices have always interested me, I know for many it sucks but sometimes we have to make tough choices and I would love to see the calculus Yoshi-P and their team uses to come up with what gets focused on and what does not.
