Unfortunately for me personally, it's most likely due to my epilepsy.
I didn't have problems with the Nier raids, but the current ones, especially Euphrosyne, leave me with a terrible headache. A desaturation/grayscale aoe option might help instead of the glaring color aoe clashes we have now. There's a lot of us who struggle with all the bright flashes and colors!
With the Tower raid I did have motion sickness issues from it, but I get motion sickness really easily anyways. I mainly always had issues at the last boss with trying to look down to find the tower that would pop up, and when that tower does pop up it would make me feel like puking, or getting slightly dizzy. This doesn't affect me much during the raid so I'm generally fine doing it, but nothing else affected me from it. I also never had headaches from it.
Adding my experience as of mid 2024
I avoided the raid series due to the warnings on the for the longest time but wanted to unlock mentor roulette so I finally did it.
It became clear within the first 30s of the Red Girl fight that it was going to trigger a migraine, which I think is one of the fastest triggers I've found (my trigger is strobing lights, which the black and white wobbling/flickering aoe indicators are very similar to).
I now have a macro set up for 'sorry, I'll need to die and reset to the start of the raid at the start of Red Girl. If you want me to go instead so you can get a fill in please let me know' both for the start of the raid and the start of Red Girl. People have universally been very kind about it. But it's a dull 7 minutes!
However, I do only enter alliance raid roulette and mentor roulette as a dps, because I think removing a tank or healer from an entire fight would be unreasonable. The alternative would be for me to immediately leave on entry. It's a really frustrating arbitrary limit on my gameplay which would be easily solved by allowing me to replace fancy 'thematic' aoe indicators with standard orange ones without flicker.
It's something that tires me a lot in games, when I see a 'thematic' design choice which is meant to evoke a particular feeling, but the only 'feeling' it evokes for me is being stabbed in the eyes.
Hey, sorry this happened to you it sounds absolutely terrifying. I have Bppd and I can't complely understand how debilitating this must all have been. I personally feel uneasy with the visuals in there. But not I'll. So I really suggest seeing a gp for some anti sickness medication incase this is part of and underlying problem. In the mean time turn your gamma nice and low and remember to take breaks every 20 minutes. Gl x
I don't have nausea but I experience abit of eye strain more often in EW than in any part of the game. There's also this particular 'flash' in the gold saucer whenever there's a new gate/announcement up and that actually makes me wish I could turn it off.
I chucked it to some kind of photosensitivity. I remember in my college grad, the strobe lights were rather overwhelming for me that I had to leave early...Anything that flashes feels like it strains my eyes.
I never really went to a doctor for it because it wasn't so bad. I know I need to wear sunglasses during the day because it feels way too bright outside to me, but that didn't seem to me like an issue since I prefer going out at night.
How is everyone's framerates? Is it locked at 120Hz + 120 FPS? If it's floating between 40fps and 70fps it might give migraines and motion sickness.
Also look at how far away you are from the screen, the FOV, how big is the screen? All these factors can contribute.
I always had to turn my head when doing the Red Girl Fight. Same with the last boss in the level 90 dungeon, I think it's SMILETON, which has a jarring pixelation effect. SE really needs to ease up on some of their flashiness & jarring/jamming pixelation screens.
