This maybe something with Scythes, doubt it's necromancer thats more of a caster thing.
Beast Tamer or Synergist most likely something that wields scythe and can tame a pet.

I doubt itll be a big generic scyth like a reaper probably be something more like kusarigama(two small scythe) and be good fit for scouting class
what said class could be who knows it could be something completely unique
The fact it's a Sex Pistols reference means (at least IMO) there are a ton of references to what it could be:
1. Templar: the movie it's referencing is directed by Justin Temple (this was done before with Samurai and a Spiderman T-Shirt, the reference being Sam Reimi)
2. Orator: The "Flame and the Fury" was a Headline published by a UK newspaper for the band talking crap at an interview they gave (an offensive speech talking job)
3: Shikari: There is another English Rock Band called "Enter Shikari", a job from FF12, that are basically Indian Hunters that would fit in with Thavnair / Radz-At-Han influences.
It's probably none of these though. XD
I highly doubt it's gonna be Beastmaster.
Yoshi-P already said that he dislikes pet jobs and SMN is already a mess because of that.
I don't think they would implement another pet job.
I'd love to see a melee class that uses a scythe for the simple fact that it's not commonly done in mmos, at least to my knowledge. Scythes seem to be mostly reserved for casters who use necromancy or npcs.
apparently Drg was mentioned in a interview about the new melee and how Drg is "unique" in terms of DPS (as in gear and how slow it is compared to other 3 melee)
so i guess that confirms it as a heavier type of Dps so maiming gear is a safe bet
I would guess it’s going to be a scythe class and wouldn’t be surprised if it were called Reaper.
Everyone was chanting chemist and we got sage. I'd say its gonna be a original FFXIV class too
Why "too"? Sage is not XIV exclusive. https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Sage_(job)
To be fair something did happen in the game that seemed to suggest chemist might be a new class. Very often in the past SE introduced new classes by having new npcs as those classes before players could access them. Considering this the miqo child npc who wants to be a traveler who helps others with her alchemy can easily appear to be a teaser about a new type of healer. We have seen this sort of thing before.
At this point I'm wondering if SE made that miqo npc just to fool us into thinking a combat alchemist class was coming, and then would get great joy in our shock at seeing Alphinaud being a healer with weapons we have never seen before and appear to have no relation to alchemy or chemist.
I honestly have no idea.
The word "filth" evokes Beastmaster. "Fury" evokes Berserker. Imagery evokes Necromancer. A little digging evokes a myriad of other classes.
For what it's worth, I would enjoy a Berserker/Beastmaster hybrid. But I highly doubt we'll get anything like that.
I'm prepped for something completely random.
The only class that I'm semi-certain will not be our melee DPS is a Necromancer/Reaper. They name dropped it, which would utterly kill the hype if they technically announced it early.
Yea from what we know of FFXIV's version of Sage, it appears to be nothing like previous incarnations of it in other FF games.
That would actually be really cool! And it actually does sound a bit like the transformation Ran'jit does and he uses a scythe.
This makes me want to throw more money at Ranjit like job, who is a sort of Beastmaster. Which would tie in the imagery of the rest of it more I think (Ranjit, when transformed, looks pretty reaper 'infused').
Also consider that his second shirt relates to "Follow The Reaper" (if you look into the band on the shirt). People have suggested Reaper as a name for the job, and he did double reaper us (grim reaper).
So it seems to me maybe we're likely to see a unique beast master* dark (which gets the 'necro' vibe, but I highly doubt, very highly, it'll involve zombies) transforming light job. *Like, very lite on the beastmaster part of the concept.
Like FFXI Dragoon's fusing technique made into a slightly dark inspired job.
Just to go over what we know at the moment:
First shirt may refer to sex pistols, has a reaper on it, talks about filth and fury. Second shirt has a reaper, is for a metal band, they've a piece "follow the reaper".
The first shirt using the similar to Spiderman = Samurai concept could also refer to the job templar, which may go in line with Paladin being the poster child.
However we do see a scythe in the trailer, well "probably". Like in the last trailer they did show off the weapon, it would probably make sense they do that again here (good advertising). It might be a safe guess to assume we will get extended trailers too, so whatever we saw will be built on. Appears the scythe is for Zenos, so Ranjit like concept would flow since it had that sort of dark visual (when he transformed).
Also Ranjit's job got an unusual amount of attention I would argue- it may have been a test ground for response from players, or a super early teaser. Naturally it would also make sense we wouldn't be exactly like them, just in case people assume it'll be a lightning dragon pet lol. It may not even lore relate to him, just seems like natural inspiration point given the imagery of the job and then the shirts, and weapon.
In terms of gameplay I imagine they're not going to do full on pet beastmaster stuff since they constantly say how it's a huge pain for them (and the jobs have a struggle whenever the pet gets to think too much on it's own lol). I imagine the job MAY have helpers but they'd be far far more like Yuna Dissida than even summoner is currently. Like Dark Knight's helper.
For some super massive tinfoil connections. Anima is part of this coming expansion, anima having to deal with souls (just the name specifically). Then the imagery of Anima is a bit in line with Filth and Fury. Furthermore there is comment about Anima's rage in one of SE's side project bestiary kind of things. Then there is the job our ally in ShB has where they got pretty evil looking when they went into battle form, and they too also dealt with souls.
With that said then bringing back the reaper imagery, maybe soul relating magic, an aggressive and dark job (filth and fury).
In gameplay sense I think suggesting it has some casting, or other semi-dangerous, actions isn't too unreasonable since it seemed to be suggested they will use dragoon armor (which has higher physical defense than the other melees). DRG armor also tends to be a little bit more aggressive looking than the other melees which tend to be more refined, or light and nimble.
For names, besides reaper, one might look to ravager as a job name (or inspiration) which has been used in previous FF games. The design of Ranjit may have also been inspired by a ravager in another FF game. Also inspired by Golbez who wears heavier armor (although Ranjit's armor isn't too heavy looking, so just drawing thin lines of relations lol).
Ravager being a magic in your face job, Golbez being a strong magical (in essence, in your face) job as well.
Also the WoL going from Paladin to this job might make a really cool trailer scene, if they chose to start out Paladin but shift into this dark reaper imagery. So in our next trailer he may go dark (opposite of Cecil lol).
Or you know.. could be whatever lol. Just having fun stretching lines to meet.
Spiderman was Samurai, yet Scarlet Witch was Red mage. These things could be obvious, or not at all.
My two uncertain gil go towards a hybrid job, in the sense that it's not inspired from just one concept, that'll be a bit aggressive, not just physicals but also with magic, and perhaps dark inspired but maybe or maybe not strictly theme'd that way. If I had to pick a more specific direction I'm saying Ravager or Reaper. Personal hope is that it comes with some awesome looking transformation like mechanics...
If they wanted to play on the expansion name maybe Abyss Walker. Void Walker seems too on the nose lol.
Anybody suggest Beastmaster as the next limited job? Personally I feel like it would be perfect for that.
Tons of people. Including Yoshi-P.
Which would be a shame if they got that treatment, since nothing really has that bestial vibe in the "real" Jobs. Maybe Warrior if you squint. If you like Blue Mages... there's other Mages for you to play in the actual game. If you like Beastmaster? You've got nothing equitable.
I love the XIV take on the Sage as a healer with lasers as opposed to the sage from other final fantasy games. A super red mage. Part of me hopes the new melee will be similar to the gunbreaker in the sense that it is a unique job to xiv that may just use ability names and reference characters from other games in the series. If it is a scythe user, all the better.
Beastmasters can technically use scythes as far as I'm aware, so Beastmaster is still a possibility. If we take the meaning of his second shirt at face value, Children of Bodom is a heavy metal band, and "Bodom" is the name of a lake that was the site of a pretty gruesome event, initiated by an unknown attacker slashing downwards on a tent. So...I've still got nothing in regards to the job. What I would be willing to bet however is the weapon of choice for the new job, and that's the scythe.
Necromancers and Reapers are not the same,
Necromancers pervert the cycle of life and death by claiming dominion. Whereas "The" reaper is a Shepard of souls, the scythe he bares is more to take those that try to cheat him and upset the cycle.
Should a "Reaper" job be added they could go into detail aboit how the two differ, I.E. one refuses accept death the other understands its purpose.
Essentially, a necromancer would create undead creatures as slaves while a reaper could be used as an anti-undead fighter that returns them to rest (with the possible exception of certain undeads in a certain major side quest.)
It could fit thematically with Fandaniel trying to recreate a past event (thus bringing back to life what should be left to rest in the past) or maybe showing a distinction between letting death runs its course and killing everyone and everything like what Fandaniel wants to do.
I bet it's gonna be whatever Ran'jit was. Ran'jit used a scythe, IIRC. The way he held that scythe was so cool. But it'd be weird, because Ran'jit was dragon themed, and we've already got a dragon themed job.
I mean, the smart money is on something death-related.
But I'm still quietly skeptical because of the overt nature of the "hint" and the numerous overt name drops. That's not really their style.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children_of_Bodom
Thought follow the reaper was a half decent pull from the page. Other themes continue with death. Given the grim reaper picture twice now it does feel follow the white rabbit like.
Reaper job would also fit for something dark theme'd without making someone question if it's okay to be. Job focused on cleansing the soul, which also happens to have to deal with Anima being in the same expansion. Anima relating to the soul (the name). And soul magic was relatively big part of the last expansion (ShB).
I'm still going with money on something relating to reaper (and potentially Ranjit). And if the name Reaper isn't apt enough for the series, like I mentioned in the other post Ranjit was based off a character from another FF game that was a ravager and Golbez. Golbez wearing heavy armor, a character who used a lot of magic (some dark theme'd), the job supposedly going to be wearing Dragoon armor if we take Yoshida's sort of aside comment on the matter.
Ravager in other FF games often focusing on what our current Black Mage focuses on. So that doesn't help too much in theme, thoughts though. However, ravager does also then fit into the filth and fury of the first shirt's concept.
So double reaper of filth and fury, a reaper (soul / dark magic) theme'd melee job that wears heavy-ish armor? Maybe..
sage is for ff series so it may be something like soul guardian or soul knight because we are deal with Zodark
SE introduce 1 job for ff one job for ffxiv i think it be cross melee magic weild job
Don't think it's gonna be "Ranjit".
They're going to give it DRG gear, and it would be strange to make a 2nd DRG gear job that uses a scythe and looks more Dragon themed than DRG. They're going to want it to look different and stand out from the rest and DRG has the dragon theme.
That's why I think the answer is sitting in our face, Necro/ Reaper thing. A Dark, edgy, death themed melee job would be new and not step on any other job's toes. Could also use Mana.
I always felt drk was more about retribution than just being dark. Part of drk's purpose is to punish those who remain unpunished for their ill deeds. A dark side of justice.
Whereas with something like a reaper I feel it's more a case of "your time has come, death comes for everyone eventually" and not "this is payment for your sins". Both dark and are relating to death, but the reasons for the death differ.
I feel similarly about Reaper, however I do feel they might have also have a gentler side to it as opposed to a cold demeanor. Like I have this image in my head where when we meet the 'trainer' we see them witnessing/aiding an ailing individual into death, but then having the demeanor shift when it turns out that this person's ailment was in part due to some form of necromancy which caused the scales to shift and thus, ending the source, balances the scales again.
I love how I saw one person say its Judge.
Would be great since they gave us Magister Armor
Yes, like a melee DPS Drk if you want to simplify it.
YP legit looked at the comments and said something along the lines of "Dark Knight? Isn't that already in the game? Necromancer? What's that?".
To clarify, I do NOT think "Dark and Edgy" is a concept that is or should be monopolized by Drk. It's a pretty huge concept with tons of room for different takes just like how Sam and Ninja are both "Eastern blade users" with completely different themes and aesthetics. IMO ... heavy armored Dragon themed pole arm fighter and ANOTHER just as-if-not-more dragon themed fighter that also uses the same heavy armor and a different pole arm is just not gonna happen.
The death angle alone would make it different from anything in the game.
I saw a theory based on Sice from FF Type-0 and could definitely see that happening.
