If you get upset about mean things some random stranger in an online game throws at you, how do you cope with actual life on a daily basis?

You guys are funny. Is it really that hard to be a decent person and know how to conduct yourselves?
You sure like to make it look like SE have some repressive force in every corner of the world waiting for people to talk.
I'm quite sure people don't talk much in world chat beause they don't want to or are already on a chat with their friends, its so easy to create a channel to communicate around any activity the game offer, not even mentionning Discords or outside chat tools.
The only people afraid of sanction are those who are infringing those rule on a daily basis or paranoic player.
People talked a lot inside Eureka out of boreness it wasn't alway nice and jolly talk and yet people weren't afraid of your so called "snowfalkes policy".
People aren't afraid neither they are selfish, they have so many other option to talk with other people, the world chat is just another option way less interesting.
On topic, the major differences between WoW and FFXIV : They are not the same game, not by the same company, not even the same sub-type of MMO. Their only common trait is being a MMORPG, but so is BDO, GW2, Dofus... And they barely have anything in common.
It's a simple numbers game.
There are more people playing WoW (yes, even now) - and some have been playing for an incredibly long time.
There is more (accessible) content that requires a group than in FFXIV - so as a player you are naturally going to encounter more people and have some interaction with them.
In my experience there is a higher entry level to WoW than FFXIV - people assume you know what you're doing much sooner than they do in FFXIV and LFR aside, it's a lot more obvious in WoW if you're not pulling your weight.
Overall WoW is more social but demands more of the player - FFXIV is less stressful but doesn't provide the same social experience. WoW is the highest highs but the lowest lows.
Generally though, if someone is popping off on the internet - just ignore it and move on.
Chalbee mentioned abuse in their post and someone brought up functioning in actual life on a daily basis, that’s what I was replying to. I don’t think verbal abuse is the norm for actual life on a daily basis, if someone thinks verbal abuse(esp the kind you see online) is the norm, there’s def a problem there.
There is a toxic side to XIV's community (Or rather, my server's community) I seem to have run afoul of...somehow.
Long story short, I've gotten kicked from two different FCs after people slandered me and made blatantly false claims of me saying hateful or derogatory things about the FC and/or its members, and on both occasions the "reputable" sources behind the claims were evidently so influential that literally nothing I said would get the FC leaders to reconsider, nor were they willing to even give me a chance to defend myself by offering specifics about when/where I was supposedly saying those things or who told them about it.
It's left me feeling rather distraught since I feel like there's someone just lurking in the background waiting for chances to drag me down and make me miserable (And rather coincidentally, the second incident happened just a day after I had expressed joy over finally clearing ES4...).
I’ve been a victim of that kinda crap and I hate it. “Some people said you were causing issues” “who?” “I cant say they want to be anonymous”, “what did they say I did?” “You know what you did” No screenshots no nothing they just took the word of someone who said something about me and their friends apparently. It’s part of why I started my own FC and made rules against that sort of thing, if someone has an issue with someone else they need to talk to an FC leader and sit down with the person they have an issue with in addition to providing screenshots. The “he said she said” stuff doesn’t fly here
FFXIV appears quiet because the community is... well, rather insular. I assure you people are talking, but it's all "behind the curtain", so to speak. Linkshell chat, FC chat, /tells, and whatever other private channels people use. Conversation is happening, it just isn't all that common to see it happen out in public channel.
Well first of all, people can come on the internet and say whatever they want with little to no repercussions. I've never ever seen or heard
anyone say something straight up racist or homophobic or any other severely mean thing to or around me in real life.
They're scared so they come here and be mean.
Secondly, we are here to play a video game...not sit around and be bullied and have some random cuss you out into the next universe.
That's where they get a ban and hopefully see the error of their ways. We are still human and have feelings and should either be nice or don't say anything at all.
If you live somewhere where you get thrown out random insults and feel that's the norm then I actually feel bad for you and sorry that happens.
People can be so cruel.
That is pretty much FFXIV in a nutshell. I seen it REALLY bad on Balmung with a lot of the RP FC's where the leaders always want people to play along and be nice to each other. Don't you dare say that one thing that won't offend most but offends that one special snowflake in the company cause if they cause a storm oh boy the leadership will crack just to make sure they stay in the company and remind everyone that 'nothing should never ever be said to upset people cause we are just one happy family who plays the same game'
