Chiming in with my first post to complain about the GNB sounds. This is especially shameful with the FF8 remake coming out soon, so people will know this goofy blunt object we swing at people sounds nothing like the weapons they're modeled after in FF8. I really hope they revert it back. All they had to do was increase the explosion sounds because they were muted. Please listen to this man make PUNCHING sounds they use for TV/movies and tell me this doesn't sound exactly like the new Solid Barrel combo: https://youtu.be/ArqiTny3ZoM?t=11
This is just sad. These weapons were treated in FF8 like they required the skill of a fencer to wield properly without injuring the user, as if they needed great finesse, but they sound like baseball bats being swung by a caveman in this game and it's an extreme buzzkill. Here's hoping they decide to revert the changes and just boost the explosions for Fated Circle and the Gnashing Fang combo.
5.1, our last hope?
Not necessarily. SE has a long history of putting QoL changes into the most random patches, 5.1 is very likely our last hope for months though, and indeed if the sounds settle on the class too long and people get used to them...not much we can do.
They'll get a suggestion ticket from me every month until this game dies as long as the sounds are like this though. It's a huge weak spot for what is an amazing new class, and this class is already my favorite. With proper sound to it I probably wouldn't play anything else!
That's probably what worries me with each passing day tbh. The assumption that "Well, they've been along this far and people are playing, heck, it doesn't need any changes I guess, they can just deal with it".
And only every month? I've been doing it every week, if not a few every couple days. I hope everyone also sends in something often tbh, at least enough gain notice and not be brushed off as one of those random suggestions that has no implication of what the community as a whole would like to see in change.
Something that gives me mild hope, is how even on the Japan forums, the thread I made there has several users wondering the same thing... Why not give us an option to swap between the old and new sounds?
Someone also included some videos of the full chain combos.

Old solid barrel combo ^
Personally I'm aware the explosions were "somewhat" lacking originally for the gnashing fang combo, but I felt the slashes were at least on point and very satisfying. I could also tell where I was in the sounds when I was in a raid of people. So my preference remains with the old for gnashing fang solely because the new sound overdone and far too heavy. I feel the aoes are an improvement, some of them anyways, there's a bit too much of an empty "woosh" feeling to demon slice personally but I still prefer the change to the older one. Burst Strike is okay sounding now too and so is rough divide to a degree..... Though I overall feel like rough divide missed the mark as a whole, not just sound-wise but animation-wise too(I feel like it would've been better to look like an actual dash and not an awkward cartwheel).
As for the solid barrel combo though... That combo DEFINITELY sounded better originally with the hits having multiple interesting sounds. It worked the idea that "less is more". The swift and clean slashes made the compounding and trigger pull of the final GCD of that combo very distinguished and prominent, which is very suiting for a combo that is denoting you gain a cartridge for your gauge.
Unfortunately Rough Divide's animation was stolen straight from Dissidia, which was an incredibly "floaty" game, which is why it looks so awkward in this one. I kinda like the IT'S TREASON THEN animation, but I can understand why many don't. As for sounds, the only one I TRULY like more than the original is Burst Strike. Gnashing Fang as you said is louder now, but the actual "slashes" of the combo sound dull and hard to identify now. If they just increased the explosion sound it'd be perfect. Burst Strike now sounds like the actual FF8 trigger pull which is nice, but now with all the thwacks...The 1-2-3 Solid Barrel combo sounds ridiculous now as we've well covered. Nothing we can do but keep trying to appeal to them.
I'll probably upgrade my ticket frequency to once a week. I too worry they'll just let this sit out of pride, not wanting to undo a change after hastily applying it to save face.
See, I think of the one from Dissidia where he leaps into the air and the blade shines outward, and it looks like he dashes and slashes upwards... Unless you mean the newest dissidia, in which case I dunno how that one looks. I feel they should replicate the rough divide from the original Dissidia's personally.
And Yeah, I'm hoping they can learn from Paramount redoing the Sonic Movie and ya know.. try to make things right. I agree with everything you said too with the sounds, Fated Circle was a much needed improvement as well I'll even say.
Nope, you're right, I looked over both Dissidias and he definitely has the other, much better animation for Rough Divide.
Maybe I'm thinking of Kingdom Hearts? I swear I remember seeing him do that flip to dash at someone in one of those games. And it seems odd for them to make a totally new animation for it since most of the other animations that share a name look like the old moves.
Maybe they'll bring something up about it Saturday?... ya know... hopefully ;w; ... 5.1 isn't coming up in just a few days is it?
Mmmm i doubt it, they cover pretty much they ajustment plan for jobs last letter and 5.1 is probably for first or second week of october, they always launch the patch like 1-2 weeks after the letters.
If they mention it it's openly admitting that their sound design team failed. Which is true, but if they didn't say anything yet, they won't say anything now. I just hope they are going to finally revert it (or create something new), even without any informations in patch notes or live letter.
Same, if they revert it to the old sounds, I just hope they adjusted them very slightly in volume. If they make new ones, then thank god I'll take anything that isn't cardboard pool noodles. I really can't imagine them keeping keen edge's combos and then displaying it in a job showcase again next expansion.
I only know about the new sounds and I have only just picked it up, but I did just watch the standard combo with the original sounds. T^T Now I want the original sounds.
Did they mention anything about GNB sfx in live letter? Really, if they won't fix it in 5.1 they should just rename it to Caveman and change all weapons to clubs. At least it will be accurate then.
Nothing but updates for what'll be new, however there wasn't any mentions about job changes either... So it's still possible I'd say. Like how everyone's been saying, HOPEFULLY they'll just sweep it under the rug like they did last time and change it when no one thinks about it. I just want a change at this point, ASAP... I'm tired of sounding like I beat things with a club like you said, I feel fking stupid.
no sound ajustment for GNB, DRK and WAR ignored as expected just the line of work that yoship loves to follow, the sounds can still probably get an ajustment without mention on the live letter but is still fun how they complety ignore the large amount of threads and complains and say nothing about.
There won't be any changes unfortunately, it's gonna be like male viera... Ignored. Which is okay I guess. Won't be playing gunbreaker anyway not with these weird sounds.
I really didn't care about the whole male viera and female Hrothgar thing, since I figured it would divert funding and development time from other things. (Like sound design for example.) Though lmao I guess that wasn't the case. 5.1 is what my hope is, but I honestly don't expect it.
Bumping it again, everytime I play the job, which I really like, I miss the old sound effects and can't help but feeling that those we have do not feel right at all.
Please SE! make it happen for 5.1!
I like the new sfx for powder combo and burst strike, but miss the old sfx for everything else
Still following this thread. Haven't touched GNB since the sound changes (I love it as a tank but I just can't stand it's current sounds), hopefully 5.1 brings old sfx back!
Not giving up hope yet.

This is how I hear it. Sorry for the crap quality, I can't find a free and simplistic video editor with basic trim/clip adding functionality. Couldn't add the actual sounds without it screwing up, but at least this conveys the idea lol... I took a box in my house, scraped my pocket knife (knife isn't out, literally just rubbed the side of it) against the box and well... That's accurate to me what I hear beneath the lil sparkly SFX of the heals and weaponskill combo going off.
Yes, please. I want the old sounds back, they were metallic and slashy. New ones are dull and like a baseball bat. I was surprised they didn't fix them in 5.05.
Reminder to submit those suggestions. At least once every week.
Honestly, I'm not a fan of the old or some of the new SFX for Gunbreaker. The old Keen Edge combo sounded like a broken monkey wrench while the new one sounds like cardboard. The only good thing to come out of the change is that the Gnashing Fang combo actually feels like it's doing some damage with those explosions. I'd be all for completely new sound effects rather than reverting to the older ones.
I know its unpopular opinion here, but I am grateful SE changed them.
I'm sure a lot of people don't realize that those SFXs were causing migraines and at time near vomiting in people, myself included.
I couldn't even be in a party with a GNB, much less play one.
So I'm sorry ya'll don't like the new SFX, but I'm glad I don't have to leave a party after a 15+ minute queue because there was a GNB in it.
I'm 100% sure I'm not the only 1 it was happening too and now I can play GNB too
The same could be said vice versa about this. I get migraines about our current effects, but never did with the old ones. Vomiting though? I think there's just something wrong with you unrelated to the sounds. That's both exaggeration and just not right.
EDIT: Checking your post history, you sound like you're a very negative person in general and not very agreeable in parties. So I'm more likely to believe this is mostly a troll/exaggeration when you mention "near vomiting" about sound effects. If they sounded like something grotesque or were loud enough of a frequency or had some form of dizzying pattern to them, I'd say "sure I'll bite, that sounds like it could happen" but that isn't he case in any form here.
This is the first time I've ever heard anyone claim that the old sounds induced near-vomiting. That's an insane amount of mental gymnastics and cognitive dissonance, given there was absolutely nothing wrong with the audio. I loved it, everyone I know loved it, and we're still mad that not a peep from devs as to why they changed it for a teeny vocal minority. I quit gunbreaker because of the audio changes. I know a lot of others dropped the class as well.
Just as every other symptom links to people suffering side effects to the main effect, yes. I'd hardly say that a headache should jump to "I'M GONNA THROW UP" unless you are truly ill or fallen for some form of flu. Let's be real here and not try to stretch things in the same manner of exaggeration that covers corners.
This.
You have an obvious biased hope for the outcome, and could have easily responded with some measure of grace. It wasn't a hostile comment. At worst, it was light and casual baiting.
Yet you chose to
A) Mock
B) Justify
C) Demean
D) Diminish
You had an opportunity to be better than the "troll", and chose to be worse.
Thank you,
Because apparently now, Medical Condition + Opinion = Troll.
There's even warning labels on games stating that they can cause health problem.
I have never had a problem with this game up until those sound effects.
If you want sources, I'll get you sources.
Chances are you wouldn't read them anyways.
So good luck with getting them changed.
Kabooa, I actually thank you for your support on this.
I personally understand that some people didn't like scissor-like sounds in 5.0, but at the same time 5.01 sounds are also not good. You can like them, i won't judge you, but it sounds like hitting cardboard with a club. Really awful compared to sound effects of other jobs, which are really nice. It almost feels like they have new amateur sound designer in their team. I would search for answer in between, assuming too many people don't like original sounds, which imo were really nice and satisfying to hear. Now they are extremely annoying.
I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it before, 16 pages is a lot to go through after all, but I would like it if there was a happy medium between the sounds of 5.0 and 5.01. I like the explosion sounds on anything that uses said explosions, but give me the old scissor/slash sounds back on the 1-2-3 combo and anything that doesn't use explosions really. :D
Coming in here saying "sound was so bad it made me want to vomit" is pretty troll-y. You're right, I did, and I will when I see nonsense like that here. Biased? Maybe a little, but you'll notice my comments to more understandable comments in here is from people who actually post something within reason that isn't aiming at something else unrelated to their argument to why these sounds are actually made for the better.
A medical condition doesn't link to an opinion of a job's aesthetic. Just because I spontaneously puke when I hear an explosion from BLM doesn't mean BLM doesn't sound good. It just means i have a problem. The same to you about GNB's SFX. Im sorry I'm sounding rude, blunt, and insensitive, but you sound like one of those parents that says "video games are why my children are violent" type deals from this post's description of why you're sick from a set of sound effects. Your condition is not the game's problem, it's your own. The same for anyone with epilepsy can be said, it's a condition that's by the person, not to blame how video games "work".
