When did calling PS4 players “console peasants” become acceptable?

I'm having fun playing on PC with a controller at 8-24 FPS while standing quietly alone outside the FC house. /shrug

You can find it in the thread about PS4 players wanting a parse. Only time I saw mention of console peasants and they haven't deleted any posts either from what I've seen.

While they weren't the nicest in their delivery, they are correct though in that people choose to use a platform of their own choice, that doesn't support what they want, so something they have to live with.

Pretty much it really, I just think some people need to thicken their skin some. PC Master Race and Console Peasants has been a funny tit and tat back and forth for so many years now, am just shocked people get offended by it. Personally I'm a majority PC master race, since quite hard to go back to sub 60 FPS and 144hz after being exposed to it for so long, strains the eyes since they were being spoiled. Pc master race because you have freedom, you could multi task, you could play any mmorpg on the market, you could parse your runs, mod your game, play on any controller you want even a ps3 one, be a pirate and do whatever you basically want.

Pretty much all it is is the back and forth - Nobody means anything by it.

PC Master Race became a thing in the early 90's when PC gaming outstripped console gaming by a mile. Basically when FMV was hitting its stride. Until then Console Games were almost always better (with the exception of the Adventure Genre). Action, racing, and platformer games were always better on console until that point.

At least until Wolfenstein 3D came out. Suddenly there was a deluge of awesome action games that Console Gamers just couldn't play. This is where PC Master Race came from. It was a reference, specifically, to Wolfenstein 3D.

Then CD-ROMs took off and suddenly PC games were just gorgeous - Though it was still a war - Console games killed on action/platformer/fighting/JRPG while PC was Adventure/Racing/Sim/FPS.

The Sega CD tried to compete but failed.

Console Peasant came about as a term during the Playstation era. PS was bringing PC quality graphics and Console quality controls to the party. Console Games far overtook PC games in popularity (With a few genre exceptions - FPS was solely the domain of PC gamers) whereas RPGs were pretty much exclusive to consoles.

The crown jewel of which was (of course) Final Fantasy 7 - Released in 1997 - whereas PC gamers had to wait until late1998 for what turned out to be an inferior version.

It wasn't until the early 2000's that PCs would start re-overtaking console games on the whole. Even then it was more genre-determined.

If you liked some games you went PC others you went console.

The real innovation, and what ended the war in favor of PC, was when wired Xbox controllers could work on PC. Suddenly console controls on more powerful hardware combined with services like Steam.

Almost all titles were cross platforming and thus the battle was won.

(Console gamers are still vastly more prevalent.)

PC players have a large advantage over PS4 Players.

PC Players, especially the ones doing "Endgame Content" usually use lots of 3rd party apps ranging from Parsers, Overlays to programs automatically executing actions for them depending on situations lol.

This is an unsubstantiated claim. Doing so would get them banned. That's nothing but a conspiracy theory. I know MANY raiders who don't use overlays or automated macros.

For the same reason people with pimped cars put their music at +110 decibel and put their windows down (even in winter), bumperdriving and love to let everybody heir their V12 motors.

For me it's just personal preference, I own a PS4 pro & Nintendo Switch but those are primairly for the exclusive games on both platforms. I'm mainly a PC player because I have keyboard and mouse, but most importantly because I have higher resolutions on much much higher refresh rates.

Like I'm playing Fire Emblem Three Houses right now (one of my fav IP's) and even though it's turn based my eye twitches everytime there's framerate drops and they happen a lot.

Also, I have to share. Flashgitz have 3 videos about Concole War, 1 from Xbox point of view and 1 from PlayStation's. Then we have the third video where PC Master Race enters.

Agreed. If you're having a problem it's not because the other guy has some tool that you don't. It is solely on you.

I *hate* when people say: "PC gamers have an advantage because of parsers/overlays/mods."

1. That denigrates everyone who plays on PC. I bust my hump to get my rotations down, to train and retrain my muscle memory to follow the new layouts.

2. I don't use parsers/overlays/mods. I do it the same way a PS4 player does. I have no advantage that they don't. And I'm blowing you away... Why? Real skill. Real practice. Not blaming my shortcomings on stuff I don't have.

I don't have a top end rig that can run the game at 160 fps at 1080p on a 40 inch monitor.

I have an entry level rig that is a bit old. It's got an SSD and an older video card it runs the game usually at around 60 fps. It drops a little in cities if enough people get on screen.

Yet, these people would have you believe that I got good through parsers (Nope. Don't use 'em and I opt out of being parsed.) Overlays (Nope.) Mods (Nope.) Or Automatic Macros. (Again, nope. I do have a macro in the game though... It puts: "Hi! I'm Ame, I'll be your tank today. Would y'all like big pulls or small pulls?" And a second button in case it's my first time in a dungeon/trial that says, "This is my first time in this dungeon, if there are any mechanics that I need to know, please tell me. Thank you! Let's try to have fun.")

That's such an advantage. It totally alters my gameplay.

I get that it started as a joke/meme back in 2008, the thing is jokes get old after a while and typically the only people who continue joke that poke fun at other people after 10 years are people that actually believe it.... like take the guy earlier in the thread going "and this is why we call you guys console peasants" using it unironically as a personal insult. I used forums back during the PS2/GCN/Xbox console wars and it was stupid and annoying back then too, I really don't get or understand the humor in emulating kids fighting about whose toy is better. But like I said, many times its used unironically because people actually believe it. I'm well, well, well, aware that PC offers a better experience if you can build the right rig, I prefer playing on consoles, I don't fault people who don't though. I just wish we could all chill and enjoy Final Fantasy together =/

How do you know you do, if can't provide said proof of your claims?

If you want to keep it to the hardware aspect. I can see more then a console player, at higher fidelity and better response time with with more clarity of my surroundings. I also have more control options as well, the list can actually go on quite extensively.

And this is just a minor taste of advantages without anything 3rd party. I personally stick to PC since enjoy the higher FPS, and above mentioned features which make the game run so much better and far easier on my eyes. I did try and play it on PS4 Pro, phew.. During some instances, actually had eye strain as it chugged to try and keep up at 60 FPS under certain conditions, any occupied town tanked it into the 30's or lower. At least on PC I can counter that by upgrading, though I feel I won't need to upgrade anytime soon hardware wise.

Hey, you make claims, provide evidence, simple as that. It's not bragging to state facts. You may feel it is, but the truth is truth, simple as that. I even say I play on consoles, but ya know what I don't do? Make claims without being open to debate or without facts.

Until a console can reach 70+ FPS at 4k for me, letting me scale it down to 2k or 1080 for higher FPS for comfort, then no, I do not think they are superior in any way.

I say we just ignore the dude. Folks should consider an optometrist if their eyes are straining. As for proof, it's not like I have to prove anything to anyone in this thread. I can see who's on PC and PS4, and I always check when I do a farm party/raid. I watch myself outperform them because I'm good at the game, and occasionally, PC players and other PS4 folks will outperform me. It'll never be based on hardware. Ever.

Why do you think that consoles are trying their best to maintain 60 from their previous 30? It's a better gaming experiences, with less eye strain(another fact) and smoother gaming.

Never said I was superior to you, so I'm not sure where your defensive stance comes from. Just stating that I, as a PS4 player, outperform most folks I run into on Party Finder. That includes PC players a lot of the time. Plenty of top-tier raiders play on PS4 as well. I'll never be as good as them, but my point stands. Case closed and shut, for me anyway :)

Well, as I said, I use a low end gaming rig. I don't have a PS4 - My roommate does - But my $450 gaming rig does the job.

Small set of SSDs - An older (but not bad) video card - And a slightly slower (3.5 ghz) processor - But she does the job.

About the only "advanced tool" I use is a 12 button gaming mouse. Due to my injuries I don't have the hyper fine motor controls to handle the number keys and move at the same time.

The mouse fixes that problem and I do alright.

I can't even do well with a keyboard in general. I love using my controller. It's great that we have a game where you're not limited by hardware NOR control type.

I never said you were superior to me either, that would be a fallacy out right from the beginning. You said you out perform 99% of PC players, without providing said evidence and in reality you just wanted to chest pound and look edgy and awesome! I simply called you out for that, and pointed out that on PC, you can affordably have a better gaming experience, which is undeniably true, and I dare say a mediocre player could be improved if used to PS4 or PS4 Pro and had the option to try a medium to high end PC for the same game.

Having to play games with people who look down on others for platform choice would not be a better gaming experience for me at all. I'd much rather play with fellow console gamers any day of the week.

So, yeah. Subjective. Enduring the mentality many PC gamers exhibit would almost certainly turn me away from gaming. Also, no chest pounding here. Just stating that I'm a good player and that good players exist on every platform :)

Let's go to facts again, I never once stated or implied PC gamers are in any way superior. I stated that better hardware gives them a statistical advantage the majority of the time and gives a better experience. This is proven 100% of the time actually on any multi platform game where they have put PC players vs Console players of equal skill level, and why they don't do it anymore sadly. But alas, you were the only one to imply any superiority in your post when it came to the individual.

How do you know you outperform other people if you can't read damage meters? I'm genuinely curious because I'm not sure how you could gauge something like that.

As someone who don't give a crap on what you play on, if you can afford a beast PC - I think it qualifies as the better experience.
The sad truth is that tech is changing at a rapid rate, and it takes something like 3-6 months for something to be considered old.

It's pretty easy (if you have the money) to beat the PS4/PS4 Pro's specs.

Shouldn't be hard at all for someone who's better than 99% of PC players.

But like... it's a joke. It's funny. It has a semblance of truth, but it's all down to preferences and budget regardless. Not to say its beyond criticism, in agreement with that other guy whose name I already forgot, but theres really no reason for this to have 16 damn pages.

I personally do it because it's funny, and that's that. Not sure of an alternative to call pc players anything but "god emperors", because they run everything at glorious fps /s

Except the claim by that poster (and you) was that you are performing better than PC players. How do you know without a parser? You don’t, and consoles don’t have one. So you can only guess.

It was nothing about the superiority of the rig reflecting superiority of the player behind it. I know PS4 players that have cleared the Ultimates (which is the content made explicitly for the 1% of hardcore players). I know PS4 players that have really good numbers because friends upload the proof for them. One of them has been a friend of mine for three years; almost since I started this game. I also know PC players that barely how to string a rotation together.

I used to play on PS4 (and PS3 back in the day) myself before I switched to PC, and I like to think I’m at least above average and competent when it comes to my skill level. So before you go assuming I’m talking about PS4 players being inferior, I’m not. However, if you have no proof to back up your “I outperform PC players all the time” claims, those words are just empty.

And they’re asking how do you know because PS4 players cannot use parsers to know for certain. That’s not a dig at you; that’s not them implying you’re actually inferior.
