Not only games, it works on a variety of products within the video game section. I noticed it even works on controllers.

Yeah, but it doesn't work on everything game related.
I had a chat discussion with 3 amazon customer support about this (because they didn't know how to react to this; Despite the promotion say "Any video game purchase")
So now i wonder if it's amazon fault, or SE fault for not being specific enough.
In my case, I waited until SE sent me the email with the promotion. Using their link to amazon gave me the promotion added onto the time card. My friend's earlier link to me did not work, had to wait for my email. I just got my code and used it on the mogstation just now, 24 hours after buying the gamecard.
Of course, everyone's experience might be different.
I just spoke with Amazon earlier this morning via chat and they specifically stated it is an automated email. They do not send it themseves and do not have access as per what they said. I actually just got my code but a few minutes ago.
So essentially, unless you are going to buy another game of some kind there's no way to get this anymore as the time card for FFXIV has been sold out and listed as unavailable for over 24 hours now.

I still think with all the grumbling that other people have done due to say other countries or such, that SE could have thought this out a little bit better.
Yeah and don't suggest that I buy a controller, I play FFXIV on a PC, so a controller is useless to me and it's not worth just tossing 19.99$ down on something I can't/won't ever use just for this mount either... Not when it should be a free promotion.
I think you guys up north should be happy you won the NBA Final's first time ever!
No Fat chobo for you!!
I can confirm it works with controllers, I bought a DualShock 4 and got the email containing the promotion code about 24 hours later.
Although the promotion says it excludes hardware it still worked, good for me because even though I play on PC I am unable to use mouse and keyboard in video games, that's what controllers are for!...
I looked again last night and many things are "unavailable"
The things that are available well we must pay the shipping, so like $40 (or higher) for a $20 mount.. I think i will just pass
@ Eric_Riot, while i am happy for Raptors i think basketball is one of the most boring sports ever, lol
Lot of things have sold out and hopefully will be refreshed prior to the end of the promotion. I wanted to buy a time card but they were sold out by Amazon and only 3rd party sellers appeared to be selling them for 40 dollars instead of 30. I put in a request to be notified when restocked and got a time card for 30 dollars yesterday afternoon. I'll either apply it towards my account or give it to a friend who might need the money and the sub.
Oh that was actually my ideal plan is to get a timecard and pass it on to a friend who could not afford to resub as stuff is expensive in his country
The 60 day time card at least the digital version which is eligible to receive the fat black chocobo code is available right now.
I picked up a $40 PS4 controller. Which is good because my old one doesnt hold charges for long.
It isn’t free DLC or a giveaway if you have to pay $19.99.
Had a long chat (live chat) with amazon support, and got sent an email from the marketing team that my headset I purchased was valid for the chocobo. I haven't received any code yet, but since that email said it was valid, I should receive it soon enough! I hope!
I've *tried* to use this promo to buy something I want, but it's honestly so damn irritating trying to find out what qualifies, and what doesn't. For example, some 3DS games qualify, some don't. FFXIV Stormblood doesn't qualify. FFXIV time cards qualify, but both physical & digital are out of stock.
Some $15 games qualify, but don't when you finally get to the purchase screen.
At this point I've extended my hand & offered Amazon money, but they keep telling me to go through a maze first. It's not worth it.
Having checked the digital time card is indeed out of stock which since its digital makes no sense that it would be out of stock. O.oa
EDIT: Now it's saying it's available Amazon is odd.
Actually. I would argue they deserve a good chunk of it. Take the SE store, for instance. It's borderline extortion how absurd their shipping prices are. I can have a friend said the same items for significantly less. In fact, you can have stuff shipped from Japan for less than the US. SE is among the worst companies I've seen when it comes to shipping to Canada. No idea why.
I found that, if you're unsure if the game offers the promo, that when you put it in your cart and go to the check out screen, under the product info it'll say something like "DLC promo Fat Black Chocobo". Kind of a tedious process, but that's how I did it. Sometimes the games even have it listed on the search page just under the listing info.
While i do agree, i will state we get $%^ewed over in general. Items that are made here and we pay full price and in US dollars for example.
Not sure Province to Province but here in Manitoba games (just your standard) edition is 79.99+ Tax. PSN is same price - tax which i still utter bs.
I believe the lore books reason i had not purchased is shipping was obsurd amount
did you get your code?
That's strange that some items are marked as qualifying for the DLC when they don't actually qualify. Amazon needs to fix that. I had a hard time finding a game I wanted because I didn't want something that I could get on PC.
I purchased Shadow of the Colossus for $18.60, on the item page, it shows that it's elgible for the DLC, but the price is under $19.99, and I didn't receive a code.
I purchased another game, Persona 5 for $19.99 which met the minimum price requirement and a few hours later, I got an email with a DLC code. The email specified it was for Persona 5, so I know I didn't get a code for the other game.
Amazon.com's finicky like that. People have used vpns to make it look like they're using a US ip to get some of the items to show up as in stock. I'm not sure if you need a seemingly US based account as well though.
The price after discount and before tax and such is tacked on must be $19.99 or higher for their system to recognize that it qualifies and email you the code. You should see something on the checkout page that mentions you've qualified for the chocobo:

It would be good if they could tweak their system to not show the promotion on discounted items that dip below the required trigger amount.
Doesn't work, has to be a single qualifying item $19.99 or higher, after discount and before taxes, etc..
Edit: Ariane proved me wrong below, but you have to check the cart to see what mix of items actually qualify and it seems to be extremely particular about which items can be combined to trigger the promotion.
I'm just going by the cart. Even though I've already done the promotion, I can still see what would qualify by going to the checkout. The image I posted a few posts earlier was taken after I had already received a promotional code.
I put both the Shadow of the Colossus and one of the Sims 4 items, both of which have the promotion on their product pages, but neither of which is over $19.99 on their own in the cart and went to checkout. No mention of the promotion anywhere, so it didn't trigger it.
