Hairstyle Concerns for The New Races

Proof ? Hrothgar aren't even released yet with not testable means to show all types of armor on them. According to what we have now, yes the body will be covered most of the time. That is the design, unless you glamour the Emporer set / purposely choose some of the very few glamours where body markings/fur colour will show. If a feature causes you to restrict your clothing in order to 'feature' it, then it's a downside.

No, don't misread the conversation. I said markings and body fur color are a downside because they will inherently be hidden, according to what current armor sets are available and how they are handled (which is usually fully covering the body).

The default here is when we put on some Omega gear, it's covering the entire body. Most armours by default cover the entire body. Most people are not going to go around wearing Hrothgar racial gear for the entirety of their gameplay.

I see tons of dudes running around nearly butt naked in those like that leapord print swimwear. Especially miqo'te. I think this is a non-issue. The alternative would be to make more men's outfits overall skimpy, I don't think that would go down super well.

Yoshi has already addressed that they are working towards removing gender restrictions from gear, specifically saying that if males want to wear dresses they would be able to, and vice-versa. So, while male gear options won't inherently become skimpier, males will eventually have the same skimpy options that females do now.

But then you are forgetting the ton of dudes that are not running around that naked and that might want to wear different glamours without having to take away one of the few customization options for their race.

Edit: I might still have hope for Viera since in another thread and on reddit someone has pointed out at least one new hairstyle in the benchmark that is not there for any race. And then I thought: Would SE really release a whole new expansion and only give us one new hairstyle for every race? I mean they could but I doubt it, so maybe they truly just released a limited benchmark.

After playing around in the Benchmark more, I've realized that the biggest thing that is annoying me about Viera hairstyles is that so many of them have those hideous white daisies in them.

There's no reason, IMO, to force these on so many of the styles. They are ugly, and don't even go with the starter gear, let alone most of the gear in the game.

iam still waiting for tekken 7 Eliza hairstyle (i dont know what it called), i love that style but it didnt exist in this game T_T

One thing to remember, those are only the starting hairstyles. Comparing it to what we have available at end game isn't quite a fair comparison with so many unlocked through quests, pvp, and the gold saucer. I'm guessing you will find one you will like in those even if you don't find one in the starting hairstyles. The starting hairstyles are more the ones from where you came from (Golmore Jungle) and not those in Eorzea.

Oh, I definitely have a few from the Benchmark that I love, so that's not an issue. It's just that there's a couple others that I love too, but the daisies kinda ruin it for me.

It reminds me of the original contest winner hair. I absolutely loved the style, but the purple flower killed it for me.

Yeah, that raised an eyebrow from me cause that's pretty much what this thread is about lol.

We don't know what's gonna happen on release. As of right now the new races are limited to these options. I'm sure there's more to this to be seen (Hoping something shows up for E3 or the final live letter) but I'm prepared to deal with having to rock a high top Mohawk with a topknot if that's all the choices I have.

How about:
If you want to show off the body, you'll wear gear that shows it off, and if you don't, you'll wear gear that covers it?
Seems pretty straightforward to me.

If anything, ask for more revealing armour options.

You're missing the point. The amount of revealing chest-gear wearable by males in the game is small. On top of that the chest piece tends to be the centre-piece of gear sets. For example you're not going to look like a whm without the robe, but you still can without the hat. This is why having fur options isn't comparable to having hair options even if the amount of options is the same. You rarely radically change a gear set if you hide the hat, but you often do if you hide or change the chest piece. Not even the lvl 80 job gear takes the fur patterns into account. Most of the chest pieces hide them.

And this is why giving hrothgar fur options instead of more hairstyles isn't good, because showing the fur patterns would often force you into a far smaller selection of glam gear that will potentially make your gear set unrecognisable. While a hrothgar's head, that will almost always be displayed anyway due to how gear is designed, will have less options for hairstyles.

It's not really fair that for hrothgar players to show off more physical individuality that they have to pigeonhole themselves into the above situation, while no other race has to.

And just because we ask for more revealing gear doesn't mean we will get it, and even if we do it won't compare to the amount of gear that covers your whole torso and arms, and it won't change the fact that most of the lvl 80 job gear doesn't allow for the ease of showing off fur patterns.

On that particular point, I'd argue that you can look like a white mage by either wearing appropriate robes, or by wearing any outfit in that designated "white with red highlights" colour scheme and carrying a staff. (See: Shisui Swimwear of Healing.)

Sure but this doesn't change the fact that it's a tiny choice of gear and that the majority of job gear cannot be worn while also showing off fur patterns. Also whm is lucky that it has two distinct colours associated with it, so you can try to still look like one by maintaining the colour palette. Not so much with the other jobs. At best they have colour types associated with them, and in some cases no specific types of colours at all.

This is always such a strange debate to me.

Like, fur patterns are AWESOME! If you want to cover them up then you will and if you want to show off your chest/ shoulder/ arms/ back then you can use gear that does that ... just like how I can grind for a lucky hair drop and wear my hair like that or wear the Eureka Helm over my head because it brings the whole gear set together. You also can't cover your tail no matter what you do so your pattern will always show no matter what.

But they are not a replacement for hair in my book. IMO they are a more than good substitute for highlights though. So I really do expect for "Fur Patterns" to also have hair styles put in that tab. Hair is important, you put time and money into unlocking them and they can often times be the key to a displaying a certain kind of character to the world as they way your character wears their hair says something about the way they carry themselves.
The way they make the Hrothgar hair look (mostly big swatches of relatively simple yet dynamic hair. Their "Manes") really makes me feel like it wouldn't be hard at all to make "Hrothgar versions" of the unlockable hair. The fact of the matter is that having more hair choices really frees people up to expressing their character in unique ways and there's no way to substitute that with just texture changes.

So yeah, Fur patterns are awesome but that doesn't mean they don't need hair options.
And I'm more than sure there's more to this than what we have in the Benchmark for both Viera and Hrothgar.

Well as best I can remember, the Au Ra also couldn't access "standard" hairstyles at launch, they were patched-in at a later point. So I wouldn't really worry too much about the Viera, I'm sure they just want to be sure they look *perfect* before officially adding them, instead of risking them looking rushed.

Hrothgar are highly concerning, though. They're built differently enough, I can see where adding hairstyles could be problematic. But they're also clearly *VERY* limited in options; too much so to be usable long-term, I think.

i hope they can change there skin color
with the Aesthetician kinda make up for inability to change hair with Jandelaine
(Skins basically fur not too much of a stretch compared to other races)

Oh crap. I guess we really get what we saw in the benchmark on release. Well i guess it's a trade-off for having a beast race right? /sarcasm

That's pretty disappointing to hear the new races won't have the old hairstyles at launch, or some ever. I haven't checked out Hrothgar, but Viera only really have like 6 styles since the others are simply the same styles with bangs/daisies added.

I think SE should have just done 1 race without this limitations, but we got what we got for now, lets be happy with it and hope for more in 6.0

I'm not happy with this at all. You don't get a free Fantasia to change races, and on top of that, for Hrothgar, you can't change your hair at all without buying another Fantasia. Viera has more hairstyles that can be changed with the aesthetician, at the very least. Why not make it so that you can switch between the two hairstyle options per face without a Fantasia? More face types only makes the problem worse if hairstyles can't be changed, even between what extremely limited options there are.

Edit: Apparently it came with the collector's edition only, but this still doesn't bode well in terms of value for price, as two races were added and no Fantasia is listed as included with the collector's edition.

I expected it to be like this, but it's still pretty disappointing for it to be confirmed. While its nice that they're thinking about it, I'm also somewhat skeptical that they'll actually make more faces for Hrothgar.

Eeeeeesh, Viera came out to be a Limited Limited race. This is very unseemly coming from Square-Enix...much less from Yoshida as a producer. Did they really just lose the ability to create races now? I get the thousands of armors argument but the hairstyles.........are.....not that hard to add for Viera. They have the same skull structure as the rest of the "human" races like Miqo'te and Roegadyn.

No male Viera I can begrudgingly understand, but missing 20+ hairstyles and now this weird statement that they might not add all of them to Viera? I can't help but laugh!
Yeah devs...you've lost me on this one, next time just add full Hrothgar if it mattered that much to you. My theory is Hrothgar took them so much time to design that the time spent on the "rest" of the Viera customization like hairstyles took a backseat in February/March.

Is it possible to get a Dev response about whether or not we will be able to change Hrothgar face, or at least linked face with the two hairstyles, by the aesthetician? I find the situation very disconcerting that the race would require a fantasia every time if so.

I'm still changing to my viera cause i'm pretty much happy with how she looks (though be nice if the facepaint wasn't so light idk her freckles even on dark setting don't seem to go to the right shade of brown for me. also more ear wiggle in emotes would of been nice) But I can understand the upset as i don't understand why viera can't have the hair styles when the miqotes can with there ears in the same place... it seems to not make sense to me at all on that one.

We never got a free fantasia with HW, people are just idiots and don't remember that it was part of the collectors edition, which you paid extra for. Stop spreading misinformation.

I don't mind too much. Even on au ra. I only use like 4 out of like what? 30+ hairstyles.
Sucks about hroth though, have to pay 10$ just to change hair styles lmao.

Limited races for real, what angers me the most is they're purposely holding female Viera back to be "in-line" with Hrothgar's limitations.

This is such a bad decision. I'm shocked that this got the green light. It's going to be morbidly funny if hrothgar turn out to not be very popular due to this. I knew this was likely how it would be given the benchmark is like this, but we keep reading "subject to change" about everything so I had a little hope. I am intensely disappointed.

And it's weird because they're giving themselves more work to do now. Every time they create a new hairstyle, they will have to make something the hrothgar can use. If they leave players out this is going to result in huge backlash. Sadly I think the result of this will be SE creating far less hairstyles than usual.

I've been an advocate for female hrothgar but if they're going to get the same treatment for customisation, then no thanks. I don't want to have to change my face to change my hair. I don't want more faces instead of the freedom to choose the hair I want on any head I choose. I don't want put myself in a position to be restricted by a character creation system with head options that belong in an out of date game.

Not even viera are getting the treatment they deserve either. It's better than hrothgar but still not up to the standard of the other races. It would have been better to do just viera and do that properly instead of giving us this. Or just release both in a later patch when they're done. I'd rather wait longer for a great product than get something meh sooner.

I guess it completely depends on the person, although I assume most people want different hairstyles. I use the same hairstyle on every single race and haven't changed once, and I enjoy the current Hrothgar styles, so it isn't to much of a bother for me. Like most people I'm concerned that it'll cost money to change the face, something I'm hoping they'll give an exception to Hrothgar. I guess I'll have my fingers crossed!

The news on the hrothgar hair is hugely disappointing. Does this mean they dont even intend to unlock the only hairstyles the race has between faces? The lower left face is my favorite but its hair is revolting. I prefer the top rights hair. So now I'll have to use the top right face because it doesnt look janky with awful hair until the bottom left face gets some justice. I hope there's some options soon.
