I'm more worried about all the friends I'm about to lose because of this
Okay, well 2 or 3 but that is a long time to make and be with your friend.
I'm sorry but just up and leaving friends like that is hard. There are people losing literally
so many friends by this, it's actually kinda sad. You could of made 2 friends, and then they get tossed in the other 2 centers...
Their friends, friend get tossed here and there as well. It's actually really damaging relationships more than you think.
Oh okay, I apologise. I thought she meant the actual server that you're in, not the Data Center.
Sounds like a lot of problems that free server transfers will help with. You could see it in a glass-half-full light as an opportunity to consolidate all of those people you care about onto one central server. You've plenty of months to feel out your network and figure out which friends and friends of friends are going where. Unless, you know, digital realestate is more important to you than those friendships you lauded so enthusiastically. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm really not feeling that great about those coming changes. I'm on Balmung and obviously I like RP...but I also really like to raid.
I'm really afraid as to what will happen to the possibility of doing Savage Raids and Extreme Trials when we'll be on Crystal.
A lot of people do seem to think that the change is basically seperating the RPers and the raiders, and that is a bit concerning. Especially since Balmuing and Mateus are basically going to be moved with all of the low populations servers, which may not necessarily have that many endgame raiders on them.
This is really bothering me because I liked to do endgame raids for the challenge...but also for the glamour, because some of those gear sets in those endgame raids are nice to have for looks, and if you don't raid, you basically have to wait for 6 months for the next alliance raids to come out in the next patch to get the token that will let you upgrade the tomestone gear, and if you wanted the raid gear, well it's worse.
So overall, I'm rather worried. I really don't want to leave Balmung and I also wanna be able to still raid.
I moved every few years in my childhood, and even continued the pattern myself as an adult for various reasons. But I still don't think "make new friends" is very good advice in general.
However, to address Moro's point, there are a ton of reasons this is being done that have already been mentioned in this thread. It's not as simple as "an absolutely awful decision" and they didn't show no care for your friendships but instead chose technical concerns over them; no care at all would be doing it with zero warning and not offering free transfers and such. Your particular situation sounds complicated and I doubt it can be solved, but I will say that complaining about it won't stop it from happening. It is unfortunate, but your time would be better spent communicating with those friends and trying to find out if there is something that can make the changes less bad for you.
I also spent most of my life moving every 2 to 4 years as a military brat, and as a soldier in my early adult life. That doesn't negate the valid concerns expressed by many here who have legitimate friendships. On a certain level, I understand your point of view because I don't have friends in this game as others do, but their worries are justified because they are being forced to choose between friendships, trusted raid/rp members, and/or both. Even i understand that it's a pretty big deal, and if you can't respect the worries that a lot of people are having, then maybe don't comment directly about it. Just a thought I had browsing through everything I missed.
/patpat Poor Diabolos... they should have been group with Leviathan or Gilgamesh.
I would advise those who enjoy PvE/Raiding to run to Aether.
Crystal is obviously the RP center with a few low pop servers.
They seem to balance the problem with normal dungeons
but raiding and static grouping may prove to be the biggest issues.
I'm not sure about Primal, I don't hear anything about any of those servers
minus Leviathan being pretty populated? But that was years ago.
We have a lot of time to decide though. So I do hope people find a way.
This is kind of a big deal.
I don't mean this to sound harsh, and I really feel bad for those that have to choose, but.... That's too bad (again, I know that sounds negative, it's not intended that way, just can't think of a better way to express it). Something needed to be done and this is what they have decided this is the best/easiest/whatever to go about it. I get that people don't want to choose... but, that's not an option. They made it pretty clear that complaining about it is futile. We would be better served spending our time trying to congregate as many people as we could somewhere that would be the most convenient for the most people of our particular group.
Not to parrot what I've been saying in my own thread, but they really should do this a week or two before 5.0, not in the middle of a raid tier where people have established statics and groups working on clears.
I am willing to look for new recruits on the expansion as much as I hate to do it, it's a lot easier to recruit people at the start of a raid tier instead of in the middle of it.
But it is not only the choosing.. It is the EU Servers population. Right now its difficult to find people for some stuff or even find new people for a static. How should this work if population ist splitted in two parts?
EU doesn't really need new servers. Yes, people will come back for 5.0 but many of them will leave as fast as they came back as it is always happening.
Oh I don't disagree with you, though I would imagine that they are doing it beforehand to work out any kinks so I can see why they are opting to do that. My post was more to those "This sucks I shouldn't be forced to <insert whatever>." and in a perfect world no one ever would have to choose between anything ever.... but unfortunately that perfect world doesn't exist (even in games).
My characters aren't switching data centers, and I'm not personally attached to any specific other world's in the cluster so I guess I'm fine. I'm just worried queue times are going to be even more horrendous than usual since they are cutting data center populations significantly... I assume they are not implementing cross data center duty/party finder so I'm a little worried.
genuine question here, for the people affected. I haven't seen a post from anybody saying that a solution is making an alt on the other datacenter to stay in contact. Why making an alt is not an option? With an alt, you can stay in touch, you can rejoin the statics leveling it up. I think it is worth it, if I really wanted to keep contact, and leveling an alt is pretty fast in this game
This is the single worst news I could imagine... Literally just deleted any hype (which was minimal anyway since I expect just more of the same with 5.0 already) fanfest had created and threw me into a f*cking bus... As if a free transfer + gil limits/housing fixes anything... How damn out of touch with your playerbase do you need to be for this to be considered anything but a disaster? I pray they halt this decision because it is potentially a game ender for me. You don't split up friends like this, you don't ruin already ailing queues like this... This is such a monumentally bad move... All for what? So there is no Rabauhn Savage in 5.0? Got some bad news for you, that's still going to happen.
Overpopulation, at least with Chaos, isn't even the real issue... Now you'll have two data centers barely held together with gum and string that'll still break at 5.0s launch, that will still suffer the same network issues... The population is small, the issue is that the hardware/networking using for the data center is just awful and basically always has been... I look forward to 6.0 adding a third EU data center with the exact same issues, perhaps by 8.0 we can just make it a solo game with one data center per player? All still with the exact same technical problems Chaos currently has, of course.
Crazy idea, maybe use some of that Mogstation money to instead invest in better server technology/networking? Nah? Go for the cheap option and just get more of the same? All while screwing over your playerbase? Unbelievable...
That's actually pretty balanced in terms of total clears. For Chaos, Cerberus and Ragnarok will likely push the other servers up in terms of clearing raids, as static recruitment will involve them more, and Light will remain quite stable.
Also, they probably took the languages into account when splitting, as it seems that Chaos will have more french players, while Light will have more german players. Not everything is about endgame raiding.
Maybe a little bad. ;) I agree it will be painful, but I expect it will all work out in the end. I guess I am just the type of person that says "Ok this is the situation, what can I do to make the best of this situation." rather than "This sucks. I hate it. Don't do it." That's not to say I am right and they are wrong... just different. :)
I'm saying if you wanna focus more on raiding lol.
Gilgamesh is the biggest raiding server so if you prefer that
then there you go, along with Sarg. I just feel like Crystal
would probably have the lesser of the static side.
I'm not saying it's going to be dead, but it sure will
be a lot less going on now.
You can tell they did this by numbers. Separating Balmung, the one with the most persistent population helps everyone left on Aether.
However looking at stats like this tells another story:
http://i68.tinypic.com/kajj13.jpg
Balmung having less characters because it's been locked from bots most of the time. So my guess here is that they probably used an algorithm like "number of characters completed MSQ 4.0" to decide what else goes to the Crystal DC.
It's obvious this was a plan to separate Balmung from Aether. So they cut Aether in half, and then took three from Primal so Primal's DC would have the same number.
No new servers for NA.
I feel EU got really screwed here.
It can already be complicated to find players in PF, some roulettes also take quite some time, and now they're splitting the DC in half ? well not even half, Light is really in a bad position, especially regarding raid content.
This just won't work, most hardcore raiders will move to Chaos, many statics will be broken, many players will lose their FCs and houses, and most importantly, their friends.
I really don't understand how they even considered doing this for EU, it just shows a deep disconnexion between the devs and the players.
Sure am glad we get to beta the World-Visit system before 5.0, because I'm far less inclined to use it after this split screws me over.
10/10 Fanfest, sure am looking forward to the disaster Paris Fanfest will be next year now. If we don't get a "Is this an out of season April Fools joke?" reference I'll be pretty disappointed in this community tbh.
It's fine that you think that, everyone is wrong sometimes.
This was a really cruel thing to say, like a medium house that I have barely decorated is somehow going to outweigh getting to play with the people I'm close to? Disgusting. I can't mandate where people move or if they do and each of these people also no doubt has a web of people they are connected to who may or may not move and may or may not end up on the same DC. I would happily give up my house, gil and whatever else for this to just not be happening. But maybe that's because I'm not some sociopath.
Oh goodie, another dead on arrival feature for me then. Let me just throw that on the pile with the rest, Hello there LoV, haven't seen you in a while.
So damn soon though... Man this really should have at least been an expansion thing... Giving people very little time to make plans for this isn't good, forcing groups to split mid-content (granted Omega is done now but who knows how many are still progressing it and will now be sh*t out of luck), but I guess it makes ignoring threads like this much easier...
