It's still pretty puzzling, to be honest. I mean, this isn't the first time Bahamut has been free to rampage, and he was able to go ham for what, fifteen minutes before Louisoix put him down? What did he do during his original summoning, sit on his thumbs? And if he's able to cause a Calamity all on his own, why did the Ascians teach the Allagans how to contain him? Don't they WANT Calamities?
I suppose it might make sense if being cooped up in Dalamud actually was making him more powerful somehow. (It certainly worked wonders in making him more super hella pissed off.) Maybe the original Bahamut Primal was badass, but nowhere near powerful enough to drive a Calamity. He needed a few millennia of channeling solar power to get swole enough for the job.
