About the World Merge and Character Transfers (02/09/2012)

Remember folks when 2.0 hits...the whole which server you on and who you can play with will change again.

Was never in a FFXI server merge but I heard the stories and seen the screenshots (and seen the people that merged to my server)

Well, because for starters, it cost about 10per month to have an active subscription. Which really, isn't a lot of money in the scheme of things. And while yes, people have legit reasons for currently choosing not to play the game, many of those same people wouldn't call the cable company and cancel their cable or internet because they are out of town for a month or two...they'd pay for it and move on.

Secondly, my hubby and his best friend use to play ffxi together. They knew each others passwords/account info and helped each other out occasionally. Like we paid his subscription for a couple months when he was between jobs etc. So if the issue is, they they ARE playing but out of town that week, maybe they can have a friend,loved one, neighbor, etc. do the dirty work for them. I mean, a little Real Life problem solving goes a long way. SE can't possibly be expected to make it perfect for everyone

This is an extremely fair way to manage the merges. Actually I wish that instead of choosing the same names they were picking 10 brand new server names. But naming them after selection is a pretty fair way. Server mergers are sucky so its good they could come up with a method that will remove any exclusivity from the result. :D

The only thing that sucks is that a Linkshell (or other group of people) could collude to pick a certain world to merge to and then announce a different world to the less savory members of their group in order to ditch them. I'm sure this will happen in some form and there will be a lot of QQing when people realize that they moved and none of their 'friends' are in the same world.

No one is saying your method wouldn't work. What we're saying is they haven't made it an option and probably won't, and we've gotten over it. You should too.

I partly agree with this in that they should have new names, you will still get people that flock to specific servers due to nostalgia, but people who arent long time FF fans might go somewhere else.

For example FF9 fans might go to a possible Zidane server, FFIV fans could go to a Kain server, FFVI fans would go to a Bartz server, FFVII fans will go to a cloud server (infact everyone will go to a Cloud server cos he has a big sword!!! (did that sound right?))

To be honest however they did it would make people rage, if they just did a 2 become one type merge people would rage that thier server was going.

It really must have been hard on you to disregard all those deep friendships and connections you have made with people on your server who maybe won't end up going with you to the new server. Took you all of a few hours!

Sorry, since I started playing the game I kinda went out of the way to be involved in my community. I helped many players when they were new who are now max level, my friend's list is full of people I have played with since day 1 spread across multiple linkshells.

I've had drama with people, and gotten past it. I've had people leave my linkshell and remain my friend. There are people who I talk to maybe only once a month, but even they make up a large part of the experience. I love Selbina, Selbina and certainly not the current endgame content is why I continue to invest and play this game.

So I'm sorry it is going to take me more than a few hours to say goodbye to what has been an enjoyable experience. If it is so easy for you, maybe that's because you aren't really that attached to your community (maybe you are even looking forward to a fresh start where people don't you, and good for you but you could have gotten that without depriving me of my community).

I like how you assume he belittles connections with friends just because he doesn't have a bleeding heart like you do.

Did it ever cross your mind it may not matter to him because anyone that matters will follow him OR he will follow them?

Sorry some people don't walk around pretending everyone they meet in an MMO, if only for a second, is their friend.

I was like you in FFXI, I got help and helped people who I added to my friends list, it was huge, but guess what I hardly ever spoke to them, and I can guess you will be the same.

You're right, I'm sure that anyone who matters to him will follow him and if they don't then they will cease to matter to him.

What an awesome way to look at people you play on a server with! So again which server are you going to?

On the chance that I will play this game as long as I did FFXI, I actually do kinda care who I play on a server with and they do matter significantly to me. They enhance my enjoyment of the game, or in some cases detract from it.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to enhance your experience through your community.

There's something wrong when you don't realize that some of us will be able to enhance our experience with any community we land in.

I guess I (we/whatever) are more flexible than you. And quit asking what server I am joining. Even if I join yours by chance it's not like it effects anything. I promise not to follow you around all day trolling you ok sweetie pie?

Am I the one telling you that you shouldn't be able to transfer away from your current community.

If you can "enhance your experience" with any community why are you opposed to letting those of us who already have our experience enhanced continue to play with our community.

Character creation date takes priority. So nothing going here. I vastly prefer being able to keep a name I've had since launch to giving it up to someone who wanted my name for a mule. /shrug

Luckily, I'm named after a whiny 14-year-old, so I didn't have too much to worry about either way.

I dont understand why they dont merge 2-3 servers together so that everyone in each of them is not losing these so called 'community friends'. They did it in ffxi, so why cant they do it with this? You would think it would be easier since there are less people playing.

On a side note I think ....realistically people who think they are a somebody in a computer game need to get their head out their ass. Get on with life and stop complaining about a server merge on a game you complain about having hardly any players. It's a game, and this is a forum for a game discussing a topic that drastically effects the experience of everyone playing that game.

If I don't like it I'll quit, and it won't ruin my life but it will be the end of me playing this game that I enjoy.

I'm a somebody on my server, and that person I invited to my EXP group last week they were somebody too. People, even on the internet are still people. There is apparently just a higher population of people acting like sociopaths, lacking the ability to empathize with others.

See and this is the problem, I want to end up on a server with other people who treat people like they are actual human beings behind their characters and not just one populated by anti-social nerds taking out their rage in virtual form (as is unfortunately the case in many MMO communities). I found that here on Selbina, and looking around on this forum at people from Gysahl/Rabanstre/Saronia/Wutai/Besaid/etc. it appears I was pretty luck to land on Selbina.


btw I'm not the only one who thinks that. A lot of us on Selbina really enjoy our server, I guess you wouldn't understand not having a character here just how much of a difference it makes.

Well you dont seem to be trying to talk to these friends you speak of, you dont seem to be caring about what they think with your ragequit posts, just seems to me like you want to be popular and nothing else.

What ragequit posts? Saying that if I didn't like the situation after merge that I would quit? lol, well that's right if I no longer enjoy playing this game I probably won't continue to play it. What a threat! :D

I talk to my friends and I'll coordinate with them when choosing a new server, but there is a small chance I won't get the entirety of Selbina to move with me and that's a shame. Because as a whole they are obviously a hell of a lot better to play this game with than some of you forum people make your server communities out to be.

If you go back to countless complaining threads before, those about the community or about grouping being a problem you'll see Selbinians in a state of confusion because we simply don't have those problems to the same extent on our wonderful little server.

I see the crux of the issue now, you other people are all just jealous of Selbina so you want to steal some of our community's magic. You should learn from our great community and when you transfer to server 8 you can try and replicate the virtual paradise we have. Not try to justify taking away what we have just because you don't have it too.

This is the sort of behavior that makes blanket merges unpleasant for the newcomers.

You do know that you can make new friends on another server dont you? I can see you as the sort of person that will get nowhere in life because you dont want to leave your friends behind.

If you so called friends choose to move somewhere different to you, they arent really your friends, for example I have already said that I will be moving with my linkshell because I see them as my real ingame friends, I have other real ingame friends as well which I am going to talk to them about.

Murugan. Get off your high horse and stop trying to be the forum saviour. There is probably people on selbina pissing their pants with laughter at the 1016 posts you have made.....especially the last few. Stop making out as if selbina is the best server. I wish they didn't change servers at all! On a side note, I hate 2.0, stupid idea! Why can't everything be the same forever with minor tweaks! Damn change. I would much rather into the problem that if they pick a designated server, then I'll have to convince all my subscribing friends to move to the server where my non subscribed friends are being dumped off, that won't create the same problem at all though. No sir, not at all.
