That long straight pony style is most definitely not an "in between" hairstyle.

I'm personally a fan of the sexes getting different styles, as long as they're getting them in equal amounts. I'm tired of all the unisex styles that they keep pumping out. Obviously this is just my opinion, but I think most of them look like crap as they're stretching too far to make it work for everyone.

"Unisex"...
Sure. Unisex hairstyles are the issue. And foreigners took your jobs. And mentors stole your bike >_>
Lol those hairstyles are ugly....rip to a nice new male hair style
I feel like part of the problem there is that women generally wear short hair cuts just like men do, but it's not universally vice-versa. So, we get a hairstyle that both genders will wear well and another that many won't enjoy.
As for reusing gear designs, I couldn't care less. It's all dead and outdated vanity gear within a couple patch cycles, so getting variants on it doesn't bother me at all. But, then again, I think all the Zetas look terrible and never had any desire to get one, and am otherwise delighted that this is two patches in a row that my old favorites are getting dyable options.
It won't be until May until we maybe good a good hairstyle again :x so far stormblood's been the worst in hairstyles and besides some crafted glamour the worst in glamour also...
Have their designers lost their minds? Lack of ideas? Something has to be done..we want flavor..not the same food every day.
Some people did, yes. They were very vocal about it too.
At the end of the day, though, a considerable number of people simply want to have their character adhere to either a feminine or masculine aesthetic.
Requests for things like additional facial hair options have also been ignored. I'd really like male characters to get some love every once in a while...

If crafted gear continues to be dyeable versions of old raid gear, then that means there'll be a dyeable Yafaemi Aiming set. As that's one of my all-time favorite glams right now, color me excited for when that eventually happens.
I'm cool with the hairstyles, and even cooler with the fact that they continue to be unisex. Try it on your dudes before passing on them entirely. Some of the "feminine" looks of recent ones turn out to be perfectly fine on male characters.
As for the Mendacity gear, I'm pumped. It all looks good, but I'm especially motivated to level my healer again, because that hat (which everyone thought was a new hairstyle) is a Mongolian-style headdress, and there is no such thing as too many Xaela glams.
Depends on how you define "unisex". Everything that's not on the most extreme ends of the feminity/masculinity spectrum?
For HW, it's almost a fully even 50:50 split between male and female designs, they were literally taken from female/male characters in another game respectively (Type 0 to be precise). Similar with stormbloods release, there were two short cuts, one feminine and one masculine - If you're searching for "feminine short cuts for women" or "feminine short styles" on google, you'll find the prior one. But it's unisex because it's not long, right? I wager it also needs frills and ribbons to be feminine. Or sth. 4.1 brought the cute bun haircut for females and the frizzy samurai ponytail for males - Very clearly unisex hairstyles.
Now they're doing it again, there's one male and a female cut. Have you seen that super short hairstyle with Stormblood with the side-shave? It's very clearly masculine and that hasn't stopped them from making it. Do you see that long cut? It's very clearly feminine and that hasn't stopped them from making it. Making things available to both genders hasn't stopped them from making gender specific hairstyles. That notion is rubbish. The notion that they are doing unisex hairstyles to avoid gender specific hairstyles is also rubbish. The evidence goes very clearly against that. They aren't stretching to make them work for everyone. Cinque's hair DOESN'T work for everyone. How much evidence do you need before you abandon the idea?
They always do the same, they pick one male and one female hairstyle. You simply either like them or you don't. With this and the last patch, i.e. "lately", they've actually been giving the females quite overtly feminine cuts. And yet people still cling to the "unisex" idea. It's been disproven over and over. And it's getting tiring to read. The only thing you achieve by asking them to stop doing what they are doing right now is to get 50% less hairstyles total, because they already design the hairstyles with male/female in mind and have done so all this time, whether the hairstyles are fitting your ideal of "feminity" or "masculinity" or not.
...that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. People have been asking for Yotsuyu's hairstyle, yes. Yet people have also been asking for Hien's hairstyle, more facial hair options, authentic eyebrows for Highlander men and a bunch of other similar things.
Yet when people ask for things like Yotsuyu's hairstyle and Edda's dress those requests are priortised and implemented swiftly.
When people ask for things like more masculine customisation options and a male version of the infamous bunny outfit the can is kicked down the road or there's simply static instead.
The complaints aren't coming out of nowhere - they're very valid given the established trends and the general dismissive attitude towards male characters and male customisation options.
lol the new emote is a copy/paste of the female midlander's goodbye... and eeeh about the hairstyles (esp the one the au ra has, ew). i get SE is basically pushing Far East at every turn but i'd kind of like a little more in regards to ala mhigo's culture, eg; furniture, glamour sets. it's disappointing the only ala mhigan attire we have is verity gear and lvl70 crafting/gathering and maybe some others...
I know there's demand for a lot of other things. But I like to point out the demand never stops, and nobody ever seems to say "thank you".. just "gimme".
By all means please continue requesting things you want and I'll stand right behind you because more customization options is awesome.
Maybe don't act like they give us nothing we ask for though.
I cannot wait for people to ask for female facial hair when they implement it for guys.
Sadly yes but they are outweighed by the threads about wanting thoughtful male hair designs as well as thought out male glamour and not just the female glamour that is shapped differently but still ugly...
Female characters in most MMOs get more thought put into their stuff but males usually get generic items or these butt ugly hairstyles that are categorized as unisex but is definitely for a woman :/
I don't doubt it, but I'd imagine the louder folks yelling for it are those with female toons, and the loudest complaints about the new hair are likely those with males.
Though I see myself using the hime hair on my lizard man, I can understand folks disappointment over the new hairstyles. 4.0 and 4.1 both had a "unisex" m/f hair. How much one liked them was a ymmv deal, but this patch is giving us short girly hair or long girly hair- If you don't like more androgynous looks you're out of luck till the cash shop updates, canals/eureka get a hair drop, or 4.3.
I'm just gonna say.. I personally know about 5 dudes in my daily life with that short hairstyle. Maybe it's just cause asians are a majority here.. but that doesn't particularly strike me as female. It's just on a female model.
I understand the disappointment for sure though, but "Butt ugly" is quite subjective.

Unisex:
adjective
1.
(especially of clothing or hairstyles) designed to be suitable for both sexes.
1.
a style in which men and women look and dress in a similar way.
This is how I would define unisex.
And for the visual explanation:

Not only is the selected hair unisex, but the other 19 styles shown on that page are shared as well.
SE is getting lazy with the hair. Instead of designing unique styles for the sexes, they're most definitely favoring the one-size-fits-all approach.
I disagree with you Skivvy, a hairstyle without gender restriction does not necessarily mean it looks unisex, there are masculine and feminine features regardless of restrictions. That hair you linked looks very masculine to me, and the twin buns to the right of that hairstyle looks very feminine.
You just want to restrict who can use them for no reason, they have shown they can implement masculine or feminine hairstyles without preventing the other gender from using it.
At any rate, if they're running out of ideas for new hairstyles then maybe they can add some additional customisation options elsewhere?
A lot of people have been asking for new scars and tattoos. Male characters could do with more facial hair options.
Bushier eyebrows could be added. More make up options could be added.
It'd certainly help increase the amount of distinct looking characters.
I think they're doing what we've been asking them to do for ages: just give everyone all the styles, regardless of who it might be "intended for". I'm not going to use the new hime cut any more than I'm going to use the pompadour but I like having the option. And judging by what I see when I people-watch, others appreciate the options as well. Whether the styles are masculine, feminine, or androgynous in any given patch is just luck of the draw- this time it came up feminine and androgynous. Maybe next time it'll be manly and androgynous and you'll hear people grumbling about "tomboys" and "eww men gross where's my cute hair" instead. :P
Well, going back to what I said earlier - I find the majority of the unisex styles to be ugly. Obviously this is just my opinion, as I stated before. I think trying to squeeze a style onto both males and females is limiting the styles we see, and I feel we're getting bland styles as a result.
But my point is that not every hairstyle without restriction is trying to fit both males and females, many of them are clearly trying to fit only males, or only females, even if they allow the other gender to use it. There's nothing androgynous or masculine about the twin buns, that's 100% feminine, and I'd bet anything if they disallow males from using it the hairstyle would still look exactly as it does right now.
It is true there are several hairstyles that are neutral, but it's not true that every hairstyle is neutral. The limitation of style doesn't exist, they have already shown they can do it.
Hmm, I see where your'e coming from. I suppose I'm just in the camp that feels not every style needs to be identical for the male and female counterparts. Or if they are going to stick with the unisex styles, at least just take the time to add subtle differences between the sexes to help them fit better. Currently, it looks like they just stretch the styles onto the various head shapes/sizes - and a lot of them look bad as a result.
I don't need to try it on to tell you that it'll look like crap on my male Roegadyn character. There's a reason why they used a male Lalafell to preview the hair and the rest were all female characters. There's a clear favoring of female design options this patch, on top of gear just looking drab and ugly. Honestly, this is the worst patch yet for glamour and vanity in my opinion.
What makes me feel kinda ragey at SE is the fact male characters can use this:

But for some strange reason we are forbidden to use this:

Glamours are not that great in SB for me. (Well less reason to run dungeons and stuff I guess.) The new omega gear for casters just look like ordinary caster gear sets including the pointy hat so it seems that I will just run Omega not that often. Still sad that the winner of the caster gear is still not implemented..
At least I still have minions and mounts to farm. x)
(Just read the patch notes...wow unskippable cutscenes in the two problematic dungeons...I cant even...wow..what a bad solution..)
On the subject of the crafted relics, I so hope the crafted Excalibur is called Excalipoor, it had better be called Exalipoor. xD
Side note: I'm mainly joking as the crafted relics don't bother me one bit, what with them having no glow, a single dye color with no trim, and likely a 3-8 mil price tag right out the door next to the relics 400k-1mil based on how lazy one is, if I remember right.
