Repost for my idea:
Different glams for the same piece of gear based on job!!!!!!!! Bis gear for healers and tanks are all the same but we still wana look different when playing them all.
They said they specifically do not want these in FFXIV as it promotes the mentality of requiring certain pieces of gear to play a job. It's not that they haven't done research or seen what other MMOs have done. They've just long ago replied to these topics and people have stopped asking because of the firm answer. (I want to say they might have outright said 'please, stop asking' or heavily implied it.)
I see the FC rooms as extensions of the FC. Why can't I buy more than one room to dedicate it to something? Like crafting, trophy, spa, library, anything really. They should have fc rooms and personal rooms on two tabs.
Depends on what you're doing mostly, like for example the ability to view your retainer's and other account inventory on demand (after compiling) should be entirely possible (just a small list file built on that character's login, or to reduce server stress when accessed in game). There was an addon for WoW that did this, it built lists for /all/ your bags across all your characters and allowed you to search them all visually with a live search bar (when you type it starts to narrow down / highlight matching elements). Keep in mind the list begins to become inaccurate if you play on multiple PCs though (which isn't end of the world, can be fixed by syncing the correct inventory again, and I think most people probably only play on one PC). Also conveniently these lists can be referenced when you're looking at quests, crafting, and stuff like that - letting you know you have it but not on your immediate character.
Any item not in your actual inventory couldn't be manipulated but that's where the client vs server issue is more obvious. The items not currently loaded on the server are not active and if you allowed players to make their own lists and then send it to the server it would allow people to easily cheat, the request for manipulations has to go through the normal client/server relationship path (FFXIV 1.0 had everything doing this which caused a lot of issues, like when you opened a menu it would ask the server about it which is too much protection lol). So basically once an inventory is loaded let the client build a client side copy that is used for viewing only (and then combine them together with your currently loaded personal inventory for players), this list will usually be accurate unless the players manipulate their items in many locations and haven't updated their log of that character in the new location (so for me it'd always be accurate since I only play in one location).
For players that move around it might be cool to allow a setting in the game that lets you dump info into a usb, including gear sets, macros, and other local data - and so each computer is optionally synced up to the level you want.
Btw you can request desktop website on your mobile device - if your phone screen is large enough it'll be okay just smaller buttons and zooming sometimes, but now you'll get all the options you're familiar with like edit :P.
It would take a bit of extra info to be synced (gear sets, now server syncing with glamour) but I feel that if they could bind glamour not onto your gear but onto your gear set slots that would work pretty well for many reasons. For example on your gear set paper doll would be a glamour box below the actual item, that when you press a button or click rotates to the fore front. Changing your glamour on that slot would be different than changing your equipment.
Leading to each and every job being able to have a unique visual separate from each other and perhaps two pretty big positive consequences, one semi interesting third:
1. Static Appearances. You don't have to re-glamour anything when you change equipment, it's connected to its own slot in the gear set. Only when you want to change the appearance of the gear set does it change.
2. Easy gear share with unique appearance. Your gear set for Paladin could use your armor from your Warrior gear set for stats, because it's in the stat slot, and they could both use different job specific gear in the glamour slot of the same item category (same chest stats, different chest glamour).
3. Previously you couldn't wear items that require multiple slots because you can't glamour multiple items together, which makes sense to us - but if you used a gear set slot system for glamour you could. When you place in Odin's armor it would just gray out all the other associated glamour slots as it claims them for it's visual needs. Personally don't want to see those goofy season (pig chest piece for example :P) costumes in combat but lol it's still a feature of a gear slot glamour vs equipment glamour.
Some consequences of this is they could add a few gear sets that are pure glamour gear sets, what this means they change your visual but none of your equipped items. So you can create a casual city gear set, make an icon/hotkey of it, and then when you want to wear it regardless of what job you're on you can use it and it won't change your job or equipment but still gives you the visual you wanted (it allows one gear set to work for many situations). Also it being a glamour gear set only allows SE to lower the amount of information on a few of them lol (I assume players will want more gear sets if they work like the above).
I think the most obvious con is that if you just hate the look of a weapon and want it to look different forever then you do want the item itself glamour'd and not really the slot. They could keep both systems at once but its just extra info imo. That and perhaps SE uses this as a cheap glamour log. I say cheap because it'd be a bit limited and not really a log but it could still work (like you make one gear set pure pvp set and then throw the gear out, you still have it until you change the glamour gear slots). I still really want a glamour log, because I want to see what I've obtained and not - its a fun thing to me.
Right. I had a good FC going for a good while "not giant like those mega church ones lol" but I'm humble and it was fun...since then the second in command I had picked up from a sprout and spent time teaching the ropes guiding and helping out as much as I could. I would be doing new content and anytime they needed something I would drop what I was doing and help answer their questions. Heck, even one time I dropped what I was doing teleported to limsa just to help him unlock his retainer...I thought we were cool, I trusted, so I made him my right hand man. I gave him half a mil gil made him a commander and let him know that just as I had helped him, I had helped everyone that I came across that needed the help and or joined our FC. I let him know that I would give the gil as part of a welcome package, I would give the gil to those who needed something such as armor or weapon upgrades, and let him know to use the gil to help new members as he sees fit and to keep them priority one...Soon after not even a week later he left without a word, kept the gil, and moved to one of those large churches...After, I didn't really care anymore. FC fell apart and now I'm just here with a lonely FC house. That's why I would love to just make it a personal home.
Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of personal instanced stuff: like armoire inventory, room setup etc... That kind of stuff could easily be stored client side.
Also, wouldn't it be neat to have an app where you could manage your retainer's inventory, ventures and appearance?
Was not aware of this, thank you. :)
@OMega_ARcane
Dude, that sucks, sorry to hear that. We just kinda fell apart after I had a critical computer implosion. I was gone for almost two years before finally being able to afford a new computer. I had figured that the FC would have been disbanded since Master status is transferred to the next, most active player. Came to find out that she had quit not long after I did without disbanding and my friend had long since stopped playing, so that left only me.
To be fair, it's a pretty flimsy excuse. It sounds more like they don't want to put in the extra work to support it. A fair point, if they don't, but they could at least be honest. There are so many ways to prevent just this kind of scenario, and in the many games that include it there has rarely ever been an issue with 'must haves'. Sure, they happen from time to time, but rarely to the extent that they're worried about.
I agree with glamlog and several other common suggestions. Of course, I'm not glamming yet, but maybe one day.
Did anyone mention turning off FATE music and such? Or did we get those types of toggles already? *goes to check system options*
Who cares? It would become a problem in FFXIV, which is the only MMO that matters to those of us posting here. Frankly, I want to see the penalty expanded upon. It should be up to three people leaving in non-premade groups before you won't receive it. This way you don't have people bailing en masse once one person accepts the penalty. I'd also increase it to an hour if you leave after receiving loot to slap loot and scoot players.
I'm sorry if this has been posted. I quckly skimmed over the posts ( I saw some really nice suggestions so far), but please remove job restriction on gear, I like to be able to glam some on other roles as well.
I think they may have done it to prevent dragoons from equiping healer gear, but it's a shame there aren't many or any All classes/Disciple of War/ Disciple of the Land/Hand gears anymore, making it impossible to equip on other jobs.
Creating an alt on a congested realm. The addition of an alt will do nothing to affect the concurrent population numbers, so why disallow it?
Gotta agree with the audio stuff- it's absolutely silly that I can't switch my output in-game. It's gotten to the point where I use two headsets when I join groups- one plugged into my speakers, and one around my neck so I can use the mic. There has to be a better way. Also, on the topic of audio, I'd like finer controls- sometimes I just want to keep hearing the ambient map music but I have to fight stuff for daily hunts and quests. Can there be an option to disable certain types of music (FATEs and over-world combat in particular)?
Also... more glamour gear for men please? Females are unfairly given a lot of gender-locked costumes when we are not. Either even it up or remove the restrictions.
I guess they figure the combat gear is primarily masculine looking so they have to make up for it by giving females more clothing options. It would also be neat if on the Veteran's Rewards gear Advent Attire and Leonhart Attire that guys would get Cloud/Squall's set and the female would get Tifa/Rinoa's set
More games in the Gold Saucer. For being such a big area there is very little to do that aren't events
Daily/weekly gil withdraw limits from the Company Chest based on your Free Company settings. I'd be nice if we could help pay for teleports/repairs of our members who are new or in need of help.
The funny thing is, that this was how the rested XP was implemented back in 1.x, with the introduction of Inn Rooms. It started off with building up Rested XP when you would have your character log out, by going back to the Inn room and sleeping in the bed. When you logged out of the game by sleeping in the bed, you would get a little animation of your character crawling onto the bed and falling asleep. When you would log back in again, you’d get a little animation of you getting out of bed with big smile on your face. (For instance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJCYingQty4)
During the development of 1.0, they expanded on that idea by giving you “nightmares” related to the story (for instance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07Tom0m6vSU). Next to that, they also added the chance of getting items if you checked underneath the bed when you logged back in. This is where the famous expression “Heck the bed” came from.
However, players mentioned on the forums that it was quite the hassle to go back to the Inn room and log out, just to build up Rested XP. Due to this, they enabled the means to generate Rested XP by standing in the major cities. This got expanded on in 2.x, where you would get Rested XP in camps as well.
This was all before the Housing system was introduced.
To OP, if you got the time, might be worth listing all the ideas on your first post. (Edit.) Be easier for devs to read all. :3
Since the thread seems to be dying down I guess I'll post one final list of the most popular ideas:
Glamour Log
Being able to toggle FATE music on/off or different FATE music
Selectable mount music
Bait/tackle box
Ability to change audio devices in game
More character customization options
Gear with unique stats/abilities
Better combat macros
Improved netcode
More actions while mounted
More overworld content such as rare mob hunts, repeatable large team events, puzzles, etc
Account wide content sharing
Being able to craft from retainer's inventory
A way to avoid obtaining repeat unique gear
All currency in the proper window/higher currency caps
Back buttons in NPC menus
Better/more storage options
Higher companion ranks/more to do with companions
Stackable everything
Well, I think that's about it. I want to thank everyone for all their great ideas and I hope at some point the devs take the time to look through here and possibly implement some of these in the future
It's not a complete solution but you can try a virtual audio device like the Razer Surround Client (I downloaded it for free, it didn't come with any sort of razer hardware either, there's a barebones free version). You assign your system volume controls to this and switch with the virtual audio device rather than the system sound. FFXIV recognizes the switch. It's still alt-tabbing but at least it's not logging off.
Different Glamours for the same piece of equipment that changes automatically based on which job is equipped.
I want my healers and my mages to all look different but all the BIS is the same.
better substats (and more clear with %)
more variety in gearing (more than 2 set sets worth it would be appreciated) + being able to gear more than one role at a time
FC content (FC have almost no purpose outside of chat + buffs)
Rework fate system, make them rare but more valuable so it becomes an interesting choice that will make people play them. 99 out of 100 fates run out without a single player touching them.
I would like to see a cross-world idling zone, where we could hang out with our cross-world friends. Right now, the only way we can see their character is by making cross-world party and then do a timed duty instance. Hopefully this zone'll allow us to stay indefinitely and change into DoH/L jobs as well.
I think it'd be great if we could help each other out with crafting, but unfortunately I can see lots of potential abuses if they allow interworld item exchange. In any event, I vote for more cross-world features.
