Why do some healers feel entitled to receiving commendations?

I'm sure it has come up once or twice in the 12 pages behind me but Healer Coms the Tank, Tank Coms the healer and DPS Com each other.

It's not even about deserving. It's about achievement logs. When I come out of a Dungeon or hest with 3 Comms, I actually get a little frustrated. Unless the other DPS AFK'ed the entire fight, I don't want your Comm.

At the comment above: what the actual hell.

where in my job description of my HEALER role does it say i have to dps? Yoshi himself said healers don't have to do damage.

we make our own rules. and Tank <-> Healer / DD <-> DD is a good rule so that everyone gets a commendation and can work towards his mount.

The only reason for me giving out commendations is when a player plays good. That means i don't give any commendations most of the time especially not to healers and tanks who barley do their job.

I see, so basically this is that one achievement that doesn't depend on your own skill - you depend on someone else to know of and follow this "self made rule" that kind of defeats the purpose of commendations and commend you out of some sense of obligation!

(also, where in my post did I mention healer DPS?...)

When I do dungeons, I'm almost always with 1 or 2 friends. And we're on discord, so If it's me and one other, we each pick one person, that way both people playing with us are sure to get one unless of course one of them are playing badly/idiotic/rude or one of them does things that make us hapoy/laugh then we give it to the guy that just did his thing.

Otherwise, it's 3 of us and one random, and unless that guy does something stupid he's gonna get 3 coms at the end. Lol

I do the same thing but I am a bit more strict in speaking up to split the com like that. Basically if both are doing stellar jobs or it is obvious they are a pair with us and making the run fun ill speak about splitting the coms, but it is rare 2 people make me feel that way. Usually one sticks out far stronger then the other, or both are bad. There was once we both com a DPS for being godly + only reason being there was to help the healer friend. They where gear capped/level capped so they did not need to be there at all, so yeah that is a case where I am willing to do double com for DPS/ none for healer. (Though both of us did that without talking about it, we usually have the same mind set in spotting performance)

The whole situation regarding certain roles being more important then other is silly, and expecting comms for just playing a specific role is ridiculous. I play DPS because its what I enjoy playing, ninja is legit the reason I even got into this game in the first place. I give out comms dependent on how people played. Tanks and healers shouldn't feel entitled because they are playing "harder roles". If you play tanks because you like tanking cool, you player healers because you like healing, cool. I have been honestly shocked sometimes pulling all 3 comms for a regular dungeon run, even a couple times getting 5 comms on trial runs as a DPS. I guess in peoples eyes i must have done good, who knows.

exactly, you do this just because it's kind - nobody leaves without a commendation and everyone will be happy and is one step further towards his mount.

and since you seem not to remember: you didn't mentioned healer dps. I mentioned this. as a example where the community made their own rules instaed of following the rules of the dev team. saying that something doesn't stay in the tooltips is the same type of argument that healers shouldn't dps because they are healers and not DDs.

i would suggest an argument like "if everyone gets a commendation anyway, then nobody will try to improve anymore", rather than: "it says healers heal / you have to commend the best player, so doing dps / commending specific roles by purpose is wrong." it all depends on what we make out of it, not what the original intention was. and since there is a reward behind the commendations, why not bending the system?

She was being sarcastic, no one does this. It is a sarcastic comment in regards of people to know of it.

The dev team does not make rules, i wish people stop misusing those healer dps comments omfg. It is simple, you should not be standing around doing nothing while using the excuse "Yoshi P said healer DPS is not needed" Well I can hit blizzard III over and over again and call it dps. Just because I am doing some kind of DPS as a DPS job, doesn't mean I am fulfilling my role. That comment was made in reference with DPS checks and how it is calculated. I have seen DPS checks fail in causal content because the people playing DPS was that bad, despite healers doing DPS.

Stop defaulting on biases when handing out coms based on role, it is that simple.

Then I will kindly commend whomever I think performed best.

As I see it, you should try to do perform well and perhaps people will notice you're trying hard and doing well, and they'll recognize that by giving you a commendation - a congratulatory token and a thanks for being a valuable asset to the team.
I won't commend someone just because they play this or that role - I heal most my roulettes because it's my main, but I won't commend my tank just for being a tank. I'll commend them if they do well, else I'll just commend someone else - and guess what? The person with the best performance will be one comm closer to their mount, if they don't have it yet.

Like hell I'm gonna feel obligated to help a person toward their achievement if I think there's someone else working harder for it.

EDIT: again, for clarfication - healer DPS is indeed a bonus. A very nice bonus, I may add. But imagine the following scenario:
An expert roulette with a min ilvl fresh 70 healer, and a sprint-happy tank pulling wall to wall. Would I (imagining I queue as DPS) expect the healer to do outstanding DPS?.. or DPS at all? No. That's common sense.
However, if I see them struggling and trying hard to adapt, using all their healing tools to keep everyone alive, or simply asking tank and teammates for tips or to slow down for this or that reason, that alone would be enough for me to throw a commendation their way.

"Good performance" is something I consider when handing out comms, but so are: effort, kindness, politeness.

Things I don't consider when I'm about to commend someone: their role.

If you are an ass in chat or start fight if not tank, then no comms for you.

The part where you say we should com people according to a specific rule... no, just no. Do whatever YOU want but don't tell me who to give it mine. Everybody should just give it to whoever they see fit or don't give it to anyone if they don't want to and thats about it.

If you want to progress for the reward try to do something to stand out, for example tell a joke, be ultra nice, heck you can even ask for it (might get the opposite reaction tho), but you should never feel entitled to recive a commendation.

Nowhere, EVER, have I seen this other than the forums. It isn't something that happens. It is 1,000,000,000,000,000% up to each INDIVIDUAL player who they believe was the best asset to the run. If people go in as a party of 2-3, they might all choose the same person to comm.

I will always choose who I think was the biggest benefit to the run. Could be the tank for proper CD use, the healer for keeping a tank who doesn't use CDs alive, or the DPS for busting out massive damage. It will always depend on how the run goes.
