What is the story behind your character's name?

Long story sort, my character was inspired by an image of a random red haired anime girl with a sword.

After much thought I named my character "Helion V. Advensten" as it sounded kind of European/Fantasy knight girl like. (My knowledge on the subject being limited to video games mind you...)

After 6 month or so I started hating it for not sounding cute enough in my opinion.

Finally learned what said random red haired anime girl was from, a Japanese R18 H-game. (google at your own risk.)

Found my way to the site and made my way to the character profile page in hopes of gaining inspiration for a new name from her name now that I would finally know it.

"Helion B. Lasfolt" was her name.

Her name was the same as my characters name. Chance? Luck? No, it was fate. And ever since then I've used "Helion" without fault or fail.

I am very much into astrology, and that along with the lore I created for my character is how I named her.

Gemina (Juh-mee-nah) is a derivative of the astrological sign of Gemini. My character was an orphan child, and her parentage unknown. The name was given to her by her adoptive father due to her dual and eccentric nature, which has led her to taking on the two disciplines of conjurer and arcanist, and ultimately white magic and lost Nymian arts.

Lunarian is a name given to inhabitants of the moon, and is the only clue to my character's parentage. It is rumored that she is not even human, but celestial. Gemina's adoptive father grew up hearing stories of beings sent from the heavens with skin so pale that it appeared to reflect light much like the moon. They were known as "Lunarians". These beings also had radiant violet eyes, and had been given the purpose to counter darkness with their divine illumination. When her adoptive father found her deep in the fiery hills of Sohm Al, the area around her was quite cold and bright, and when we looked into her eyes, the first word to come from his mouth was, "Lunarian". The Dravanians that appeared to be caring for her laid slain.

Megaman fan here for the most part. 2 of my characters are named after Megaman characters, but I also have a character that is not named after Megaman stuff.

Ekkusu Volnutt -

Ekkusu is named after Japanese pronunciation of X from Megaman X. Volnutt is the last name of the Megaman from the Legends/DASH games.

Rokku Sigma -

Rokku is the Japaneses pronunciation of Rock from the Megaman games (used with the original Megaman and Megaman Volnutt). Sigma is the main antagonist from the Megaman X games.

Mikeru Takeuchi -

Mikeru was named after the Japanese pronunication of Mike, minus the A. Takeuchi is a Japanese surname.

I created Pfil ( Piffle ) at th release of Mabinogi 1.0 back in 2008 and have played her there, in Star Trek and here s well, since then.. Her looks havent changed and her weapons havent changed ( twin blades and a heavy two hander ).. Her name came around as it was one of few that no one else had used, and since a piffle is a bit more than an oh shoot, but not as bad as an oh damn, I thought it fit perfectly..

I'm just terrible at naming characters.

I have a soft spot for that too. I will pull strings and references to Libra and balance wherever I can.

Luna Brumalis because my man used Brumalis as last name on his charater and Luna because i love see the moon and the sky of the night. Very little story xD If i used my full name without my man's last name , it will be Luna Celestia. It have more sense ;)

- Asahina - the name is from the Anime Haruhi Suzumia and halve year later my 2nd char...
- Chidori - the name is from Persona 3 (Not Naruto Lol)

I choosed these 2 because that Anime and the game impressed me so much that time back on 2009!


The Surname Karayami for my chars is very unique! NO1 can has it! :P
Karayami is a mix of 2 words: a turkish word for the colour Black(Kara) and the Japanese word for Darkness(Yami)
so BlackDarkness in english. (It represends my past and my personality)

Because:
I was learning Turkish language for my friends in my job and Im a great Anime Fan since +20years! (also: learning Japanese language too)

Whenever I play a game where we can create Charackters I always choose my Asahina and Chidori ;o

Quite honestly, I don't know how I came up with Lapiz Lazuli (was originally supposed to be pronounced more like 'Lapith Lathuli' cus I thought it was Spanish but I play with mostly English people so they say it with Z's not TH's). XD
It just popped into my head when I made my Lalafel CNJ for the 2.0 beta test phase 2. I had no idea what it meant/what it was but I knew it was a thing, so I googled it later and found out that it's supposed to be spelt lapis lazuli XD The best part is that the gem is blue which is my favourite colour ^.^
It is interesting, cus every so often someone comes up to me in-game asking if I've watched Steven Universe, played minecraft or even played FF7 (apparently it's one of the bosses or their attacks? cant remember tbh). Not gunna lie, the first couple of times that it happened I was just like '....watched what?' I still need to watch Steven Universe as my character's name is how I found out about it and I wanna know more! Also!...I've played Minecraft for about 30m before and that was a few years ago so I didn't think of my name based on that XD
What's also interesting is how many people spell it Lapis, not Lapiz because it's supposed to have an S ^.^ I don't mind cus I know that they're talking to me (and I don't correct them either for that reason) but when they realise they're usually embarrassed (poor souls)

Some person made an alt with a name close to mine (one letter difference). So I changed to what glam I had at the time: bunny chief. Strife is my husband's last name.

I started on a different server than I am now due to it unavailable at the time, and didn't realize I could use the same name in each world. A friend had picked this server, cause another one of her friends was on it. So I made this name, and then after getting settled into the server and leveled her quite a bit, I decided to keep her instead of starting over (changing my name at a low level seemed pointless) Now it seems pointless to change my name at all since I'm in a FC, and I have gotten quite use to this name. Kinda grew on me, maybe it was just a sign I needed a change from my norm. Though, I did make a sub character with my original name I go with. Perhaps I'll actually get around to playing her...

Evil Kitten, well had it since I was 16 and always been my username, character name every time. I initially had the name Cat which eventually ended up being Kitten since at the time I was the youngest in that circle of friends so reaching adulthood it stuck.
Now the evil part, I didn't exactly decide that but it end up being attached to kitten when my bf at the time let out it should be Evil because I can be evil sometimes. Since we parted on mutual terms and remained friends to this day I have to no desire to drop it as it meant something then and still does to this day. ^^

I just chose the name my friend thought up

"Xiaomu Xiang" is just a name that I've used for a while (Most notably in Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors Empires). I've always like the name "Xiaomu" and "Xiang" just seems to go well with it.

I kinda kept the naming theme with her sisters (read: my alts): Xiaoyu, Xiaowu, Xiaolu, and Xiaozu.

I've been doing hidden perverted names for my MMO characters since EQ in 2000 and this character is no exception and really dirty tbh. lol

I was looking up tricksters and came across Reynard. He was Northwestern European which fits the naming convention. Saw Reineke was an alternative spelling and looked more feminine. And Isengrim was his uncle and it looked like a family name.

I made up the last name Scindaire (Combination of Scindere [Scindo - to cleave/divide], and -aire suffix) and chose Rhode as a nice sounding first name that although does not strictly adhere to naming conventions, is close enough for me.

It was my enjin username when I joined a 1.0 linkshell for the games launch, and while I had planned on using a more unique name for XIV, it kinda stuck during pre-launch communication.

Mhaeric Llystrom as a name began back in 1993... 94? Something like that anyway.

I loaded up Dungeon Hack for the first time and created a neutral evil wizard with the red hooded picture as my avatar. I needed a name, and my usual one at the time wouldn't work for the character, so I came up with Mharic (without the e). I can't remember if it was randomly generated or made up on my own or a combination of both.

I go on to use this as my name for most games since I like it, including a MUD that I played off and on, mostly on, from 1997 to 2017. In 2000 I was creating a new character after returning from a break and wanted to use Mharic as a name for my Bard, but I didn't want to delete the original character. So I added the e, and the name became Mhaeric. This new spelling instantly became my more preferred spelling. The MUD had the option to choose a last name during gameplay, so I needed something elven sounding because I was an Elf. I remember going to various name generators and came across one that output some double L's which i liked the sound of. I imagine them rolling off the tongue and sounding like it would fit easily into what Tolkien elvish sounds like. and so I came up with Llystrom. Ever since then, my name is always Mhaeric Llystrom wherever I go.

It's strange to think that I've been using the same name, not counting variations, for over 23 years now.

(It was only years later that I realized the first name is an anagram of Chimera, and the last name is very close to Maelstorm and ends in a homonym of strum which is appropriate for a bard, which in that MUD uses elemental magic to create elemental maelstorms. Total coincidence, but nonetheless a serendipitous one.)

Simple my favorite character in league of legends (next to poppy) is lulu and the lalafell remind me of yordles. Banunu comes from another character in the same game, nunu, which i liked since it rhymed with lulu but I combined it with banana because it sounded funnier :)

My name gets me asked fairly often if I'm Vietnamese -- I'm not but my husband is. In FFXIV and Diablo, I use Vietnamese food to make my names. Bun Bohue (beef noodle soup), Bo Luclac (shaky beef), Bahn Mi (sandwich), Dac Biet (special). It's silly, but I've grown attached to them.

Kaelah Tae.

The first MMO I ever played was XI. I remember talking to my friend trying to come up with a name, and he asked me to name 3 Final Fantasy female characters that are my favorites. I said Yuna, Tifa and Aeris (Aerith). He then sent me back a bunch of names made up of characters from each of their names. I don't remember them all sadly, but the one that stuck out to me and I chose was Taeyu. (TifaAerithYuna.) Taeyu the Mithra WHM was born.

My next MMO was WoW. I started as a Rogue Forsaken named Taeyu. When TBC came out a week later, I decided to create a Blood Elf mage, Taeyu was taken on my Rogue so I had to come up with something else. I knew a girl in one of my classes at school named Kayla and I always liked her name, I tried that but it was taken, so I got creative with the spelling. Kaelah the Blood Elf Mage was born.

When XIV was released I knew I wanted to keep the name Kaelah. In WoW I often received tells complimenting the name, and after a few years using it I just love it. When I heard they were introducing surnames I figured it'd be a nice nod to my XI character to use Taeyu in some way. Kaelah Taeyu sounds ok, but it just felt like a bit of a mouthful, and everyone in XI called me Tae anyway, so I went with Kaelah Tae.

Honestly, I was trying to come up with something race-appropriate for this character so I was hitting the random button a few times for inspiration. Decided I liked "Painted" as the first part because I love artsy-craftsy stuff (I have another Roe Hellsguard named "Cashmere Yarn" because of my love of knitting). Then was trying to decide on the second part...decided on Oryx, because one of my favorite novels is Margaret Atwood's "Oryx and Crake".

Of course, I've gotten multiple tells asking me if I played Destiny and/or if I named my character after a character from that. Nope, never played the game.

Blackiron Tarkus. Summoned to this world to help all the dank players and solo bosses after people fail to do simple mechanics. \[T]/

Tizzy Tormentor, my online moniker, my nickname irl is Tizzy to pretty much everyone I know, I added Tormentor because it rolls off the tongue quite nicely.

I do wish I could update my name to Tizward Von Tormentor (based on some banter among friends) but the best you can get is Tizward Vontormentor or something and it looks lame.

Landale is something I've used for longer than I can remember, usually paired with another Phantasy Star name.
I felt like doing something a little different while still at least maintaining 4 letters Landale. Ultimately settled on Eira as a name meaning mercy felt kind of fitting for a Paladin.
Had me giggling like an idiot when I switched to Dark Knight and you're fairly quickly told that mercy is stupid.

Named after Garnet Til Alexandros XVII from FFIX, my favourite game in the series (and one with a lot of meaning for me).

Took my name form Magic the Gathering. Xantcha was Urza's companion in Plainswalker and Argoth is the name of the island where the Brother's war ended. Not very original but i liked the was it sounded.

Jets was an anagram of my initials while down refers to my favorite ff item phoenix down was not too original but my alt i just went dirty minded and went with Jailbait Bunny and yes its a dude who cannot wear that outfit /sadface

My characters first named based of my niece's name Amalexia so it was just shorted to be Lexia as for last name (Lightress) I don't really remember I think I just picked a name that I thought sounded cool but realized later my characters initials are L.L. and is from Limsa Lominsa (LL) which I kind of chuckle at once in a while.

Kurando is taken from the character in the JRPG Shadow Hearts. Originally I used Hyuga as the surname so it was a mix from both Kurando and Yuri in the same game, but eventually went with Strife to give it more of a East and West feel. Though anything completely Japanese setting (like Persona) I stick with Hyuga :)

I used to always go by Lothian. Ever since I was probably about 13 (16 years ago). I thought I made it up. Turns out it's a place in Scotland.
Anyway, I got sick of having to do alternate versions of the name since it was taken so often. Lothien, Lothiann, Lothienn, etc. I ended up doing Lothiena for female characters. But then that started being taken. Xylas I came up with at random (but it's a type of gum, Xyla... apparently my subconscious picks up on things). I would use that when Lothian was taken. Eventually I just mashed them together in WoW and everything else as Xylaslothian and it stuck. Luckily in this game I can separate it. :)
I changed to a female Lala as a joke the first time I quit in ARR since I had an extra fantasia. I ended up liking it when I came back... I thought she was cute. Then I got my swimsuit. I felt like a creep. So I decided to stay female since I was into the aesthetic and went with Hyur Highlander. Now I can dress scandalously and not feel gross. I usually play as female in RPGs now.

I originally had a male character called Haprimac. I'm a big LotR fan and Meriadoc Brandybuck was one of my favourite characters. I wanted to make a hobbit-like name that would work the same way (Meriadoc -> Merry, Haprimac -> Happy), but when I made another character (a female seawolf roegadyn) in beta, I changed Haprimac to go with the guidelines. It also fits in the sense that the -ilona part of Haprilona is a Finnish girl's name that means "joy".

So if I translate Haprilona Sunnwyn, it'd be "Gatherer of Happiness, daughter of Sun".

Rei = Sailor Mars, Akemi= Homorua Akemi from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, I do love anime :D
