Thanks for the info Rukkirii!
Though the thing I would like to know is:
Is it more dangerous being a stunt woman or a community rep for FFXIV?
I'd take the latter.
People are just going to trade the gear around to get the achievement for everyone.. Is that really something you guys think we should be rewarded for? I could understand an achievement like get all 7 Ifrit weapons, or get all of some R/ex set of armor that will be introduced in the future, but doing it with items that you can trade seems kind of pointless.
Very true. I'm sure there will be people retorting, "Who cares, its just an achievement", but lets be honest, exploitable "achievement" is exploitable. Especially when people are getting rewards for these achievements.
And just when we thought the Dev's were giving us something that wasn't a free hand out like everything else in this game.
I'll use one of your sig quotes to explain this however slightly edited:
"Welcome to 2010/2011 MMORPGs" :)
In reality, achievements in any MMO is easily exploitable no matter what when you think about it, there's always some way to get around a requirement, it's usually one of the flaws of these kind of achievements which is why some devs tie it to multiple requirements, though that would have just annoyed players (given how people got annoyed by a 5% surcharge..)
So a small handful of achievements are available easily through a loophole. End of the fucking world guys, might as well just shut the server down. The entire achievement system is a complete failure because of this.
Please, give me a break. It's only a couple of current sets and future sets (as was stated above) will probably be U/U anyway so it won't be as easy to get those achievements. They weren't designed as "free handouts". It's rewarding you for having the full set.
We aren't being over dramatic, but you are. The thing about this achievement is just that it is pointless and nothing is being achieved other than going to the Market Wards to buy the sets then trading it around. The rest of the achievement system seems fine.
It's curious to most of us why they would even integrate something like this for these out of date crap sets. If it was linked to the old runestones and we had to trade a runestone and obtain the piece of gear to get marked off for the achievement it would make more sense.
The point I'm trying to make is that in the grand scheme of things, in the entire achievements system, this is kind of small and matters little. A small handful of achievements are obtainable through a loophole. Okay, and? You still have to work for every other achievement in the entire game.
There's always a few...

World of Warcraft - Hadronox Denied: Defeat Hadronox in Azjol-Nerub on Heroic Difficulty before he webs the top doors and prevents more creatures from spawning.
In the early days of this achievement, groups with low DPS used a glitch exploit. You'll need a hunter, rogue, mage, or night elf to pull one of the crushers, and then use an aggro reset ability (feign death, vanish, invisibility, or shadowmeld). This will make the crushers despawn. Run to the end of the hallway and defeat Hadronox there.
So... you get an achievement for an easy kill of an easy boss. :/

+1 for the Star Wars reference.
On a serious note. I'm very glad that we got confirmation that the majority of achievements will be retroactive, as I could have sworn I read somewhere a few weeks back that they wouldn't be. This news made my day.
However, I empathize with those who have focused on DoH & DoL classes. They seem to keep getting the shaft. :/
A flawed design at best. Granted, its almost unavoidable, but given that, they shouldn't of even included them.
They should of made achievements for obtainable gear wearing only on EX Items. There, problem solved.
I'm just tired of the hand outs. And the achievement system seemed to be the opposite of that.
Sure! Just not to the same extent as simply getting traded the armor set, putting it on and then talking to an NPC.
For the EX Gear, all I need to be is in the same party as the person that opened the chest or defeated the NM and I could be passed the gear. Don't have to do any actual fighting.
Because of a small handful, an insignificant fraction of achievements the entire system is now hand outs? It's still as it sounded, not handouts. You still have to work for every other achievement in the book. Also using the loophole for the gear achievement is optional. You could always get it the hard way.
You know, for players who want to get it the hard way it's pretty fucking hard. 400 Faction points a try after you've cleared the first two tiers, not to mention drops are not guaranteed. You've got to grind leves (which most people don't bother with these days) just to get the points to even try.
Not including them just because of a small loophole is ridiculous as well. They were for a time the hardest gear to get in the game. Not the best necessarily but definitely up there on difficulty.
So glad I waited to finish botany and mining
One of the achievments should be "most time spent waiting for this game to get better." There would be a whole lot of people running neck and neck for this achievement.
lol, like i'm gonna go back and mine a grade 2 node 300 times just for some useless achievement. fts.
I'm glad my cooking is still low enough to get the low rank synth achievements. I'm screwed when it comes to gathering however. The best gathering reward will presumably for getting all 3 classes to rank 50 anyway so I'm not fussed.
You can get the low-rank achievements regardless of your actual class level >.> If I'm not mistaken the achievement says to complete a number of synths within a certain recipe level range, not character level range. Same for gathering, you can still go to the lower grade nodes and gather even at 50.
I know that but like others have said I'm not going to mine 300 grade 2 nodes for an achievement. I don't see why these can't be done automatically. If you have a rank 20+ in a DoL then of course you've gathered 300 grade 2 nodes or whatever. Same with the synthing ones.
It can't be done because there's simply no record of it. One could assume but there's no way of 100% knowing exactly how many of a specific grade you've gathered at. I get what you're saying but the reason it can't be done is again because they simply have no record of it.
But it's simply impossible to go from rank X to rank Y without doing a minimum of Z gathers or synths. That's why you shouldn't need a record of it. This can be calculated with simple maths based on the max EXP per synth/gather and the amount of EXP it takes to cover that range. No one wants to waste hours of their time gathering or synthing low rank trash just for an achievement. The reward for these will be low rank and thus useless at 50.
You can gather materia mediums for those achievements.
For those who acquired the 100,000 enemies defeated achievement already, does that only apply to enemies that you gain EXP from?
I got 50,000 back in Feb. Recently, I've been farming sheepskin to level up Leather making fleece and have killed at least 7k sheep (this is how many arrows I've went through so far) and just wondering if all of this farming is double duty.
Nevermind! Just got it while farming on Lv1 sheep.
I believe if you are already a lvl 50 disciple of the land or hand you should get credit for lvls 1-40 and just work on 50. its like we are getting screwed for supporting the game early on.
Theoretically, yeah. However there was nothing in game to keep track of your gathering and synthesis attempts so they can't just go around assuming. It sucks but we're just gonna have to deal with it. They told us well before the patch that gathering and synth attempts would not be carried over.
Everything but Synths carried over and were included. Shame that they decided not to give you credit for your synths. Th numbers needed will preclude me from getting some promising looking tools. With the numbers needed I refuse to spend large amounts of Gil to reaccomplish what I have already done. Other than that the system looks to be a good start.
A new question to the devs :
Since you decided not to carry over synth/gathering -and I will not discuss this here even though I think it's a really bad move-, one thing bothers me with the already heavy requirement.
"Craft 3000 items requiring level 41~50 <insert crafting class here> recipes."
As I'm sure you're aware of, we have level 50+ recipes, what about these ?
I'm an armorer 50 and most of the things I craft are level 50+ recipes, so is this supposed to not be taken into account and go to waste just like all the work we did until now went to waste in regards to the crafting achievements ?
