I totally had to +1 that lol. I remember when that was a zam trivia question that gave someone early beta access. :D

I didn't know about the cookie but you have to agree that one cookie isn't much of a canon.
You are just the opposite of me because you want an adjustment to fit in with the lore first and I just want it to fit with my play style first and the lore also. They aren't mutually exclusive by the way. For the record I think Thaumaturge makes a great black mage but so does Conjurer. Both would work out from a theoretical standpoint but I think pulling one over on your customers is stupid from a business standpoint. Of course we wouldn't know if we're about to get screwed or not because no one on the dev team cares enough to say, "Hey guys, we're aware that we're changing the mage classes but we just want to let you know that all your effort will not be in vain. We will make sure that if you started FFXIV wanting to play as a Black Mage type character or a White Mage type character that it won't matter which class you picked from the beginning because we'll make sure it works out." So I believe I've proved that a protest is unnecessary. Only one thing matters. The dev team threw everything up in the air, but the chips don't have to fall where they may. They're in control of the game and it's up to them to do right by the people that paid $75 for the Collector's Edition and invested their time into their character.
As for who's naive, did you start playing this game recently? Because when the game released there was no job system. I picked Conjurer and leveled it to cap before they announced the job system was even coming and way before they announced Black Mage and White Mage and 1 job per class. Try to imagine a world that only consists of 2 classes and nothing else. Both can heal and cast offensive magic. Try to keep that in mind before making another accusation about someone's trust.
You do not remember insulting my intelligence or the intelligence of anyone else on this board by using the word canonical incorrectly. In fact you probably don't even realize how big of a deal it is to post on the Internet and get into an argument with somebody and be so ignorant you don't even care about the actual discussion. To be real, it matters to me a lot. I wish you would get more involved and not post half-assedly because I think what you're doing is public and it matters what you say. Other people are going to read it and it's important that you make claims that are true and correct yourself in front of people when you're wrong. I'm not out to attack you and I'm sure you're a great person, but what you're doing isn't great.
One thing I don't think you realize because you reinforced the idea of the game and the lore preexisting is the nature of game redesign. You see this game was designed by people that aren't in charge anymore. That's your lore. A new team comes along and makes a call. There's nothing wrong about this process but if something new is injected into something old there's a retroactive lore adjustment. Or in this case, it will be introduced as kind of a "new development". There's nothing wrong with that either but I sincerely hope you realize that anyone using that method could introduce whatever they wanted to the lore and make it fit within reason. The dev team could wake up one day and decide that Limsa Lominsa is going to become a desert and think of some way to make it fit into the lore, totally disregarding the old team's work. Okay so when that method is being employed, I hope you realize that arguing that lore factors into supporting evidence of a new adjustment to the game like this is a very, very weak position to take. And that's if you only want to make an argument for how appropriate it is. You went farther and tried to use this weak position to tell players something about what their right to be angry. I've got news for you people have a right to be angry based on the actions of someone else. In this case lore isn't the reason. I hope you are beginning to understand what I'm telling you.
You're a funny man.

The very NPC text asserts that "it" (a.k.a. the Order of Nald'thal) is the entity which is split, and that THM is an existing element within the order. This in no way guarantees that Thaumaturges occupy both sects of the order, nor is there supporting evidence to back that up: merely conjecture, on your part.
And you have not provided sufficient proof to suggest otherwise.
And to correct your statement above, the Branch is called Legislative, and it is split in two groups known as the Senate and the House of Representatives, and within that hierarchical system is another split, via party lines including, but not limited to, the Democratic and Republican parties. But seeing how I omitted using the Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard from my quote to create the fictional example, I am perfectly happy to let that slide.
Its been settled since October 25th. Conjurer's skills favor the lighter side of magic, and Taumaturge's skills favor the darker side of magic. Beyond that, their guilds clearly represent polar attitudes in the FFXIV lore. The OP, as stated, has supporting evidence to back these up. I think your big issue is that you don't want to level it up. In the time that we have debated this topic, you could have had THM leveled 1-50 three times over, if not more.
Go level-up.
