Poll : Should FF14 allow purchasable “leveling potion” ? Please vote!

My opinion is no to the leveling portion. No caveats, plain, simple, no. Not now,not ever. It is already easy as pie to level. The real issue atm, is the access to endgame runs through Ishgard, which requires a completion of like 3,455,654 quests. Many of which are nothing more than time killers. I have mixed feelings on a cash shop item to bypass the 2.0 MSQ entirely. I can understand how annoying it could be for someone to slog through all of them. I have done it more than once myself. It doesn't even need to be a cash shop item, just change it so that you can enter Ishgard from CCH. But bypass everything and have a max level character is simply more than I can accept.

Voted 3 & 4. I do not believe that leveling potions is the answer.

The majority of complaints I have personally seen in game from brand new players and older ones creating alts is MSQ is too long, or they can't access the new classes right off the bat. Recently I had started alt characters out of boredom/wanting to see 2.0 story again and wow.... I forgotten how much fluff quests there was x.x. There is quite a bit that needs condensed, quest lines that would be better taken out and made as sidequests (so you would have the option to see the storyline + xp).


Boosting people to high levels will only cause a greater gap in skilled players. I understand it would be nice for experienced players making alts but for new ones? Heck no, they should go through the game naturally so they can learn better. I know this already doesn't prevent bad players, but giving them a bypass will only increase those types of players dramatically.

Give them the level boost, but make sure they can't join any dungeons/raids without going to a very special tutorial. Cause I'm sure as hell not going to party up with someone who knows knowing about their class. I got enough button pressing as it is with playing Ninja you think I'm fixing to hold someone else hand because they decided to go the easy route?

Personally i enjoy the leveling part of MMOs the most, experiencing and exploring the vast world for the first time has always been something magical to me.

I do think they could add a way to earn a bit more experience though, as you'll have to grind a little at some points in the story as it is, but not with purchasable leveling potions.
They have EXP boost manuals for Gathering and Crafting at the Grand Companies, they could easily add a Battle class EXP manual.

I cannot imagine having to carry someone through content who had used a potion to get to level 60. I might smash my controller with my face. Healers spamming "Cure II" like its their first time in Brayflox. Tanks marking mobs as 1, 2, 3 and using the aggro combo only. DPS spamming the same combo, over and over and over. Just no, please no. As it stand now the leveling process works to indoctrine players with at least some level of sense into how they play (from story requirements like job quests or other players).

Besides this is a subscription based game, ie. the more time you spend playing it the more money they make off of you. Adding a feature that cut down on subscription charges would fly in the face of their business model. I don't see that as very likely.

The game already has multiple +exp % earned items to the point you can level to 35 in a few hours, and then FATE grind to 60 over several more. At that point you've already got tons people at max level with zero idea how to properly play their class. Adding a potion won't change anything really, and will line SE's pockets with some more seed money for FFXVI, or another cell phone game.

Really don't understand people voting no. It's not gonna change a thing and would be fantastic for leveling alternate classes.

All I see is exaggerating "omg it's gonna be so turrible with teh newbz". People already exaggerate how bad DF actually is. A lot of people just FATE grind as it is. I will repeat this, like a broken record. Bad players will be bad and good players will be good. Period. There is ZERO reason to not have one at this point. Leveling isn't fun and it's a chore. The real game doesn't start til max level. Who wants to play a 50-100 hour tutorial? I sure as hell don't.

Problem is no one wants to be matched up with someone in a raid/dungeon/hiest if they have no clue how to play the game.

The whole thing is dumb. How about the developers NOT develop content that people don't want to play? Let 4.0 be nothing but instanced dungeons and instanced raids. I'd rather that then have devs wasting time making 10 more levels and 10 more levels worth of quests, that everyone wants to skip so dam badly. And everyone just buying skip potions. MMOs are on life support in the West right now.

If they feel the need to boost people within 10 levels of max each expansion, then stop adding levels. It's contradictory. They added 10 levels in 3.0 just to allow eveyone to skip them in 4.0? So dumb.

no need lvling in game is easy and quick to begin with if you know what your doing i say no

DF is not as bad as people claim it out to be. On average out of 10 dungeons in the DF you will probably get 1 or less bad groups. Now if you flood the game with players who just buy the leveling potion that 1 out of 10 suddenly increases to 5 out of 10 or even higher.

All they need to do is clean up 2.0- 2.55

really if u're not ready to start playing ur own character from lv 1 then dont play MMOS ....
just play some visual novel games or other games that doesnt require u to level up....

i agree with some people.. leveling is already very easy, u can use DF leveling which boost lots of exp , if u join FC u ll get exp buff etc.
why u choose shortcut ? whats the fun in playing when u login and ur character already max lv and have FE but u dont know what skill is for what what to do in dungeons etc?
Tutorial is good but how much help can these tutorials provide?
I believe that practice is key to everything in life.
U get good coz u get used to something.
From zero to hero requires experience , practice , trials & errors thats how u became good at something.
Not from some instant method.

100% NO its easy to level if you know what you are doing

NO 1000x over, Skip to 4.0 story so they can play with friends? sure(thats the biggest complaint right?). Figure out a way to make story clearable in this sort of parallel with experienced players(who are probaly leveling their new jobs anyway as well)

There is a quest you can do after the main story in the latest patch it goes through all of what happened in 3.0 something like this or use the cut scenes to create some sort of way to skip through.

This game doesn't need a leveling potion, it just needs accounts at expansion release for press members to use to review the expansion. That was a major problem, that along with job lock out with content. I'm fine with jobs being available without story...

I know people who work very very hard and have very little time for the game but still find time here and there.

An MMO is a commitment. People who jump in and think they get to be the exception are fools. Curse Blizzard for setting this ridiculous standard.

The people who get a jumping potion are unlikely to play long once they get it anyhow. This is will not bring a long term new player base. It will bring fairweather content fans who will leave once they realize they're not welcome in endgame content.. and are kicked from parties from not being able to function their job at endgame because they jumped to the end.

I see this potion doing nothing good for this game.

I could not be more opposed to leveling potions or any other form of "boosted" leveling, because once something like that is implemented all old content dies as a result. As it stands, you can almost always DF a group for any old content with a bit of patience.

Once they did this in SWTOR, everyone started leaving in droves. MMO's are about becoming powerful over time, and incrementally gaining strength. When new players can skip steps you spent tons of time on, the game starts to feel shallow and cheap.

The only way I could possibly accept level potions being added to the game would be if it were limited to experienced players making alts. So you'd need a character who's level X on job Y before you could qualify to get a potion that would boost your other character(s) to level X of job Y. (I still don't really see that that would be useful enough to be worth adding, but at that point I would no longer care if other people wanted it.)

Look at it from a dev standpoint:
"So you want to spend $20~40 on our game & expansion, $25 for a potion of auto-max level, burn through available content in a week, get bored and quit right after?"
"Sure, we'll take your money, and appreciate you not eating up the server bandwidth compared to people that play non-stop for 2 months."

Pherhaps broken is too large a word, but doing all of the MSQ (2.0 - 3.3 and eventually 3.5) is quite a daunting amount of work. So once 4.0 hits a more streamlined MSQ would be great for new(er) players. Adding gear like they did for 2.x helps a lot, but I think a few fetch quests could be removed/condensed as well.

Seriously, a level skipping potion? Why? So we can have even more level 20-60 Dragoons not using Heavy Thrust? Level 50 Black Mages using Fire 3 as their only damage skill? Tanks not running tank stance? Please, please no.

2.X should be streamlined so that you can run through the MSQ in maybe a solid weekend of determined play, ready to go for 3.X at level 50 with decent gear and all the main 2.X features unlocked. Then play 3.X properly and then start 4.0.

And don't lock exciting new 4.0 features behind completing 3.X this time.

Oh! and lastly, an NPC that can activate new game plus mode resetting all your quests back to their original setup. So people who want the full original experience, Titans dinner party and all, can have it, and people who want to do the story again can run through it with their geared character.

Absolutely no story/level skip potion though please. Not that I have much hope, a £20 potion is far easier to implement and far more profitable than what would no doubt have to be at least a reasonably extensive tweaking of 2.X

If by 2.X you're referring to just the patch quests from 2.1 through 2.55, I'm pretty sure that can already be done in a weekend if you're determined about it. If you mean the entire game from the first level 1 quest up through the end of 2.55, then no, that shouldn't be completable in a weekend. There may be a few really short single player games that can be played that quick if you skip everything optional, but people who opt for MMOs are generally looking for a game they can spend some time on. Too many people are asking to streamline the entire game away.

I am talking about the whole thing, and by determined I do mean determined. Like, you've got a full free weekend and you do pretty much nothing but play FFXIV solidly.

I might be overdoing it or underdoing it there, I'm not sure. It's been a long time since I played the original story from level 1.
I suppose a better phrasing might be streamlined in half or so, if I recall correctly IMHO the MSQ in 2.X does have quite a lot of filler that contributes very little. I think, even ignoring the potentially foreboding length of the MSQ come 4.0, the story would benefit from some trimming and tidying up anyway.

2.x and 3.x could be made into a heroes story, at the time of a new player entering the game, if ala migho/garlemald, wherever the story takes us into the expac, they can just have something streamlined. if new jobs are at 30 again, have the old ones accessible as well at that level. No need to put new players in the "past", they can go to the minstrel to relive our experiences- meanwhile we could all have relevant level quests designed to help us level a new job without a week of grinding to begin msq and they can all play with us as well. Seems pretty simple to me, no need for implementation of this thing, its a terrible idea just to get new people to "play with us"

I picked the option that lets us access jobs and such without having to do the story quest, because... that's a really silly restriction.
