Where is the petition for jobs to start at level 1?
Really? I love OP messages like this...when someone has no idea what they talking about.
Have you played Final Fantasy Tactics? Have you played Rift? There's the regular base class to a specialized job.
A base class and then an extension of that class allows you to open the door to an amazing set of advanced skills. SE is planning on releasing additional classes. Classes are meant to be basics and then extend to jobs.
This idea moves away from the OMG I have to grind to level and get a new skill, and moves it into a more personal aspect of character development. Instead of mindlessly grinding one can hear some great lore and move through quests and stories to EARN skills.
I believe the class skills will change quite a bit once they introduce the job system in. I believe the devs have already posted numerous on these potential changes.
For example this is what I see as potential for the job system. Most notably will probably be the Conjurer. Since jobs are branching class skills starting at level 25 was it...Conjurer for instance is a candidate for WHM and BLM spells completely being revamped and moved to either job. I can see the base conjurer class would be more of like a really weak Red Mage...and the job specialization allows for more spectacular spells and specialties...
SE has mentioned in the past about jobs that they want jobs to be more focused for group play...and classes made for easier solo play. Not that you couldn't play a job single player...
Level it to 50? Hells naw! Let's start them at level 50 and let jobs level up to 60! Yea!!!

Pretty much what Agoven said. If you played FFXI you'd know there was a deep (for the most part, some kinda fell flat) story line to every job when you did their AF quests (Artifact Armor, job-specific armor tailored to their strengths and weaknesses). It's been said that that is how the AF will be obtained this time as well as skills. Think of it like this:
Gladiator 30: Unlock Paladin job quest -> Gladiator 35: Unlock a Paladin skill quest -> Gladiator 40: Unlock a Paladin armor quest -> Gladiator 45: Unlock another Paladin skill quest.
Above was just an example, to fill in all the blanks we'd need more than one quest per 5 levels. But that's basically the system Yoshi-p stated would be put in. Believe this was during the last live interview. If you are already 50GLA then you can just go ahead and do the quests but rest assured that the ones requiring level 50 will likely need a group effort since the jobs are designed for group play as it is. The level 60 final AF pieces in FFXI were incredibly difficult for what they were. It was an impossibility to solo or even duo at 60 most of the time. You'd need a full party of level 60's, sometimes more, or some help from a 75 or two. I can easily see a challenge coming with not only the level 50 armor quests but skills too, and can only imagine how great they will be.
The quests for new skills in FF11 at the upper echelons was incredibly difficult and rather fun. I remember how epic they were...I miss those days.
Well, there's another person whose head the Job System went right over!
Either OP doesn't understand the idea and purpose of the Job System and what it will become, or OP wants something specific for him/herself and is expressing disappointment that this system is not what he/she wants it to be like, throwing around a plethora of justifications.
Either way, tough to take seriously.
Jobs = Full party endgame content that requires highly strategic gameplay with each team member playing a role to better aid the party as a whole.
Classes = Solo and Light Party content that is generally simply a grind/farming. Light Party in this sense can still be a Full Party, the point is it's not required or expected to be, like in endgame - where Jobs excel.
Paladin = Gladiator who learned the arts of being a Paladin. He embarked on quests which taught him what it meant to be a Paladin, through which he achieved new skills and gained new armor. Upon completing the 5 quests, which are planned to teach you the job, you will know all you need to about the job.
Considering PLD primarily makes use of GLA skills, a player with a level 50 GLA then levelling PLD up from even level 30 is redundant and serves no purpose. Again, considering that PLD is meant to be played at endgame scenarios.
in 11 jobs and sub jobs were the same, they were all just jobs. in 14 they have classes and jobs. different system. what you are looking for is an advanced class. a brand new class that needs to be unlocked then lvled. this class would then have its own set of jobs.
In my opinion jobs will be similar to the class they needed to be able to get it, but those will have a few better skills than classes loosing the good thing of using cross class abbilities, thats why its only meant for party play, they already said that for gladiator you need both gladiator and marauder to get the Paladin job, so... you will only have access to those 2 classes abbilities and sounds logic enough for me.
Having a class instead of a job is better for soloing than for party events.
Thats why they wont make those start from scratch.
