Frequent R0 lag spikes and freezing

Did a traceroute from work (Qwest/Centurylink provider) to my game server and it takes a totally different route up till the game server. It stays within Qwest's network until it hops over to Japan. Could others on Cox, Mediacom, Pipex, etc, post some traceroute results to their server IP and/or 202.67.48.202?

Guys, let me know if you're experiencing R0's this evening (Monday October 24th). I've been running smooth so far and I believe it may be because it's a weekday and there are less people online tonight.

I'll update the thread around 11 PM PST with any news of R0's on my end.

relatively normal, got a couple spikes up to 40ms, but its pretty normal right now.

It's 9 PST and I haven't had any R0's yet, but I did have a couple yellow lag spikes. Will keep y'all posted.

Guys!! I am sooo excited, this is the first night I haven't experienced any type of lag or R0 since 1.19a!!!

Glad to hear it Pia!

It's 11 PST now so I believe we've made it through tonight's prime hours. I'm happy to say that I didn't have any R0's either.

With that said, I'm starting to think that the reason we're getting R0's in the first place is due to our servers being over loaded with users. The fact that we were able to avoid an R0 episode tonight can be explained by there being less people playing on a weeknight (school+work the next morning etc).

Unfortunately, if the above is true there is probably little we can do to resolve the latency issues during the weekend prime hours. Hopefully with the upcoming server re-structuring they'll be able to address and optimize the servers so we can have a better experience over weekends.

No lag tonight..maybe SE ninja fixed something. Let's just hope it doesn't break again.

I doubt they would have fixed the issue this quick without any feed back or hotfix notes, so I'm going to wait till this weekend before getting my hopes up.

I would tend towards being skeptical. I'm not trying to be negative, but thurs-sat was more or less the same for me as last night. But I do also hope its gone for good.

Last night must have been a slow night for FFXIV on the bodhum server. I only had 1-2% packet loss. I will monitor again on Tues.

We'll try a round of ping tests to XIV and google again tonight, and really Id say we will keep planning to do this at 8pm EST - 10PM CST For the next few nights. We usually can tell if there is going to be a big issue by 8-9CST. So if ya guys definitely feel that going on , Get rdy to do those pings at 10pm CST.

Edit(trying not to post too much..) Cox just called before coming out to my place, stated they fixed some kind of major issue that was effecting me and my "neighbors" and said it should be fine. I had them come out anyways because the last time they came and installed HD, i got static in my audio in my bedroom. My inet doesn't go threw that part so ya.. anyhow

Well last night was pretty smooth except for a couple of brief instances. Me and my sis were playing and occasionally we would both R0 solid. After about 60 seconds one of us would drop to error 30002, while the other suddenly had connection again. This only happened a few times.

Another perfect night for me, not one R0 or spike, sorry to hear others weren't the same, I don't understand that now, I was hoping it had been fixed, I guess it's still early days.

I had a perfect night as well dual boxing two characters except for a single R0 around 8 PST. This event also did not last very long. Overall, a smooth Tuesday night.

I say, bring it on Friday ;)

Last night as good as well, although I didn't start till later in the night. I think the true test will be this weekend. If there's no lag then, apparently this has gotten resolved one way or another.

If we can go to Sunday I think ill be satisfied. Its very coincidental how cox told me something got "fixed" but weren't specific about it, and now things seem to be working again... all around the nation... is that what they meant by my "neighbors"...

When I came back I had 2 flawless weeks. The last 4 days I have been kicked out about 30 times, mostly R0 and random errors. This is starting to become an issue as I'm being kicked out in the middle of leves (failing them by default), while running in Ul'Dah, browsing the Merchant Wards and even in xp parties.

It may seem like a coincidence Drako but I'm now getting similar results as you without having anyone from the cable company come over. I really hope this weekend goes smoothly, but we can only wait and see. Keep the community updated with any latency issues until we ride the rest of the week out.

Yeah the lag was bad for about 5-10 minutes or so then it went back to normal.

I would not take what Cox says to heart about that. I have Mediacom and when I have issues and call them up (which is often), the automated machine response is "we are experiencing an outage in your area. Please keep this in mind while we connect you to a representative." This message never changes though... and no they are NOT having an outage >.>

I am also having these same frequent disconnects--short bursts of intermittent inactivity...enough to kick you off for. But happening frequently enough to where I'm afraid to do anything in-game with other people. I don't want to be that "guy who always dcs". I went through the R25 dungeon and got stuck with the gladiator sword that I already had one of. Someone else really needed it. But I dced, so I got the sword. What if that had been the R50 dungeon? I'd be that guy who "conveniently disconnects at the worst moment".

Anyway, I had a decent night last night too, but it was back again today. I have only found 1 solution to my problem.

I have to use my phone's internet. Yeah. I'm pretty sure its just in incompatibility with several ISPs and SE's server system. Until they get it worked out, I cannot use my ISP to play it. My phone's internet works great though. What I'm talking about is something like Verizon's Mobile Broadband Connect, but the version I use is completely free. Before you attempt this, make sure you are using an Unlimited Data Plan, as I'm sure this would wrack up the bills quickly. You need a smartphone (iPhone or Android) and a usb charger/datacable to connect your phone to your computer. Download the PDAnet application from apple store or android market (this should be free. If it's not, your not on the right one). It will walk you through installation on your phone and your computer. This is seriously the smoothest connection I've ever experienced with this game. Still haven't DCed (although it turns yellow if I'm rapidly sending texts back and forth). When I tell my roommates how I fixed my problem, they thought it was pitiful that I have to use my phone to play when i pay over $60 bucks for monthly home internet. But at least my DCs in XIV aren't bringing down the house's internet still (they hated me for that!)

Anyway, obviously this does NOT fix the problem and this issue needs to be addressed really quickly. But for those of you with smart phones and unlimited data plans, this is a temporary quick-fix to get you playing again that you may not have thought of. Cheers!

I noticed your TTL dropped by 1, this means that your data is taking a different route to reach the servers (For every router your traffic passes trough the TTL is reduced by 1). This is usually caused by network outages or load balancing and is normally not very notable by the users but in some cases it can be.
Try do a trace route right before it usually gets unstable and save that, then do a few more when it gets unstable and compare them.

Ya I experienced that same R0 spike. But that was about it for the night. Also cox in my area went completely down between 12am and 1am. I didnt care cause i passed out prior. My sis told me when i got up for a min.

Anyone notice anything after the maintenance today? Was wondering what that was all about.

Patch notes just referenced some minor bug squashing. Nothing relating to the prior connectivity problems though.

Got to do Ifrit for like 4 hours last night with no hiccups. Got a bunch of wins but no drops. :( Least others in my LS got things they could use.

Having the exact same issues as described by OP

os windows 7
graphics card: gtx 560 ti
internet provider: Chess Telecom (UK)

Happens upwards of 5 to 6 times a session (5-6 hour play session). May I also add this has NEVER happened to me prior to patch 1.19

I'm going to be playing a little bit tonight so I'll keep y'all posted if I notice any R0's. So far so good, but I'll see if I'm so lucky the rest of the weekend.

It looks like SE is addressing latency issues with players participating in the Ifrit fight. We should keep an eye on this thread to see if we can gleam any information from it that could help us with our latency issues.

Didn't have any outstanding R0 events last night.. How was everyone else? Anyone experiencing R0 issues since the emergency maintenance? Keeping an eye on tonight and will post my findings later.

Getting the R0 spikes is completely random for me. My connection is generally pretty stable (aside from standard latency from the server), but the R0 issue rolls in like an ogre and throws me off the server, then proceeds to stand at the gate and deny me for the next ten minutes. Then it just clears itself up... It's really annoying. It's happened to me once yesterday and twice today, both in the Broken Water area.

It isn't even just the ifrit fight. at least not for me. it happens to me in the city a lot.

Hitting a couple of R0 streaks tonight, around 9PM PST. They aren't lasting terribly long but are occurring frequently. Was hoping these would be gone but I guess they're here to stay for a bit longer :p

I agree with you that 2.0 will most likely fix the issues we're describing since they are restructuring the servers and giving us a new graphics engine... However, 2.0 isn't scheduled to release for at least a year. If there is any possibility that we can solve these latency issues earlier I would like to collect as much information for SE as I can.

I have had a few R0 solid on both me and my sis's comp. It seems diff then what wev had goin on. Plus i havent has any 30002 sense last sunday i think. Idk where the issue is but for the most part its settled down(for me).

So the past week was pretty good, small spikes here and there, gone as soon as it hit. Last night doing ifrit, did about 4 runs, and the last run I got hit hard with lag spikes. I had to just quit game, was just impossible to play.

Tonight, was ok till I went to Camp Glory and there was the imperial invasion going on, so I messed with that...got hit with 1-2 min lag spikes. Was 11pm est when it hit full force.
