Pay to Play Subscription - Cast your votes!

I think they're making the same mistake from last year. They launched an incomplete game, still in Beta phase and even dare to announce people would have to p2p, as a result, dozen of thousands of angry fans left the game, leaving a very small loyal population (so small that many didn't even considered as a game community); in the next year, after several patches, that small number slowly began to increase until the last "big" patch, when the community finally reached a big increase in numbers.

And it's now that they decided to launch the p2p notice?? -Sigh- Sadly, they're making the same mistake all over again: it's still TOO EARLY for p2p, sure the game got drastic changes, but not enough to be considered for a paying morpg; even less if you consider the new morpgs that gonna make their debut in the next months. FF14 isn't nearly strong enough to compete against them. Sure, all the "future" changes will literally kill these new games...in the future; but right now SE is making quite a risky and daring move with this Pay to Play Subscription.

All that is left is to wonder: how bigger or even smaller would be the loyal community after this?

This poll is grosely innacurate. I'd like to point out that maybe one fifth of people who own this game (still playing or not) actually use the official forums ever. And I bet the percentage of people among those who dont use these forums who are willing to pay is substantially lower.

5 endgame dungeons/bosses(ifrit, 3 strongholds, and darkhold)
2 low-mid game dungeons

several mini content events(behest, caravan, invasions)

and thats just a start of naming them off

and with all we have planned to come out, in the outline, its not like it wont surpass some games that have been out a while shortly(alot of games go pretty stagnant with content implants post launch)

I will be happily paying for this game in November/December.. and this is why:

(1) Yoshi P has done a miracle job in terms of changing the development culture of FFXIV. We went from no communication with Tanaka to full blown monthly letters, a forums where are suggestions are read/considered/implemented, etc.

(2) The last two patches (1.18 and 1.19) show me Yoshi and his team know what they're doing. In 1.18 some people could not log on for hours after the patch was released. In 1.19, I don't know of anyone in our shell that had an issue. Servers were stable and content was ready to go. They learned from their mistakes from the previous patch and provided flawless implementation of the next one.

(3) It is unreasonably for people to think a game that is made on a pay to play model, with 250 development team members to operate at a negative financial (loss) for 2 years. We've had the game for free (monhtly sub at least) for an entire year. Now that I see what has been done, and what they plan on doing, I am HAPPY to pay the sub at this point. I want to financially contribute to make this game exactly what they have laid out in today's announcements. It's like buying stock in a company that you believe in. If 1.18 and 1.19 were good faith down payments by Yoshi-P to regain our trust, then let me return the favor by paying a monthly fee. And this isn't some vague plan, i've never seen this amount of detail on WHAT is coming and WHEN it's coming.

(4) Why is it worth to pay at this point instead of waiting for 2.0? After all, we're all just "glorified beta testers" right? am i right? Wrong! I am having a BLAST in game. There is always something to do (ifrit, spiritbinding gear for better materia, new company quests, more story development, etc etc.) Knowing that the advanced classes will be story based progression (quest rewards rather than xp), by having multiple R50s by the time 1.21 and 2.0 role out, I will have access to a huge variety of content. Each class has its own multiple quests and rewards to get, just like FFXI (I loved AF armor and the quests that went along with it).

Those are just my personal reasons why I have no problem paying the fee. It also has to do with the fact that I got more excitement from reading the new vision of the game and seeing the revamped screenshots then I did beta testing SWTOR. Let's just say an hours worth of SWTOR failed to "capture my attention" for more than that amount of time.

Let me say that I understand WHY they have to start charging soon for XIV, I don't believe XI is making them as much right now as they hoped it would. I appreciate Yoshida's team and their extreme hard work to fix this mess that was FFXIV at launch, I look forward to 2.0 when it gets here.

With all of that being said there is just no way I am going to pay for the game in its current state, it would be one thing if 2.0 was 2 to 3 months out but over a year or so out? not a chance in hell especially with game releases on the horizon like Diablo III early 2012.

I agree. FF14 in a year when version 2.0 comes out, is gonna be something out of this world! But I don't think many of us can stay another year, waiting for it's release.

With Skyrim, Minecraft, Uncharted 3 and a new Zelda coming out next month...probably not. Maybe next year once I beat all of those and I"m out of games to play again I'll sub, but I can't justify paying a monthly fee for a game I won't be playing very much over the next couple months.

I put YES for now but I agree with others that the price should be lowered if the system is still half done, YoshiP himself said it's 50% complete. I don't mind paying, that's not the problem for me it's how SE said they wont charge until PS3 is ready (if I read correctly in the past) and now they are trying to collect money year before PS3 release on a unfinished game, so basically they are asking us to fund the game to be finished. Pretty sure they used up the money I spent on the CE version (x2) don't see why they can't just get the funds from up coming FFXIII-2 and FF Type Zero profit.

Would be nice to start subscription to get rid of the trolls but if they doing subscription when we submit RMT reports wish they take care of them instantly...

I voted no. I will stop playing until the 2.0 release. I am not willing to be in a paid beta. The game is loads of fun but it is essentially another year of beta. I'll wait until 2.0 and I can play with my friends that are waiting for the PS3 release.

I know they gimped it down so the monster level has to be in range of the person getting powerleveled. How does that change things? It still means paying people and RMT to level you. Only difference is that they will have to change camps more often.

I'm staying to experience the once-in-a-lifetime changes being made concurrently with the development of 2.0, and I'm excited to see how it will play out. Plus, I would love to be of the population that was around pre-7th Umbral Age.

So yes, I will be paying my hard-earned money because I have (and always had) hope in this game. SE did it with the first FF, and they can do it again. There aint nothin final about this fantasy.

I wont be paying because my PC struggles to run this game. I only played to follow updates. If I could run it smoothly I think I would pay though. This is the end of FF XIV for me until 2013 it seems.

I'm gonna support this game and the devs. I have had months of free time with the game, and it has shaped up quite nicely. These people are working their asses off, and I think that they deserve my tip money.

unless they fix the serious issues first i wont ill be leaving playing other games and if i dont get hooked in another 1. ill be back @ 2.0 when the real game accualy starts. I WILL NOT PAY TO PLAY UR BETA.

Not a chance in hell, I'll for sure go back to Warcraft. Right now I play because it's free and reconnects me with some XI friends, but theres ZERO renewable content in this game. Sorry, spamming ifrit is not content.

Maybe I'll give it another look next December when they claim the real game will start, but I doubt it.

haha, i cancelled my netflix that i had for like 5 years cause of their greed

The biggest problem here is that the game is simply not ready for primetime.

CASE IN POINT:

• After yesterday's patch, I hopped on and got ready to do a Darkhold run.
  
• Showed up with full PT, tried to enter instance. Upon entry, was given the old (40000)4 error. My char was now stuck inside Darkhold, unplayable. For the 3rd time since starting to FFXIV, the patch corrupted my game data.
  
• Attempted to uninstall with a "Catastropic Failure" prohibiting that.
  
• Manually deleted the FFXIV / My Games directories.
  
• Tried to reinstall - seemed OK
  
• After complete reinstall, redownload of patch data, the updater failed at the last moment with 20564 (another indication of a corrupted patch attempt).
  
• Tried to uninstall. Uninstall failed again.
  
• This time, I could not reinstall or uninstall, I was stuck, with no recourse or path to take to try to get the game working again.

Because I am an IT person, I manually searched the registry, deleted all the keys referrencing FFXIV, and successfully reinstalled. The average user, however, cannot be expected to this.

Fundamental features like an updater MUST work before expecting average users to pay money for a game. Therefore, they can try to take people's money, but I predict FAILURE 2.0 instead of FFXIV 2.0.

nope. I've already done this little dance with this game... There is no way i will pay for a game while it is still in development stages.

Not a chance will I be paying for this game. Yet. I simply dont trust them any more and Iam sick of spending my money (3.5k PC, 80$ C.E.) on their development. Iam not an investor. The only saving grace is that Battlefield 3 has really caught my eye, Ive played alot of the beta and now at least have a game that I can use this beast of a PC for. Diablo 3 will also be nice. But its a shame that I had to pay what I did for a PC and go through this mess with S.E. and FFxiv...... NO I think I will sit on the side lines for this one and see how it all plays out.

I will come back when the next free trial is live and give it one more chance.

I also dont trust that this v2.0 is going to be any better.... Well, I will take that back, cause it would be almost impossible to make it worse. But I just dont buy the hype and the idea that all that which is in the letters can be completed in a years time.

I will most likely stick around and gladly pay a sub fee. People tend to forget how much money it cost to do what SE is doing, and as others have said, they could have just shut off the servers all together and just rebuilt it then. SE owes you nothing, I played Alpha and bought the collectors edition, and yet even though I have yet to hit 50, I feel I have earned my 70$ worth. Hell, in this day and age 70$ doesn't get you anything. Sure you can go out to Red Lobster or Olive Garden and have a great meal, but again, that's one night of food. Not a years worth.

The amount of money SE has lost, put into this game is massive. Granted SE is a huge company with well funded funds, they are not limitless. If your hurt about 13 dollars a month, you shouldn't be playing MMO's anyways. Theres plenty of F2P's out there that are half of what FFXIV is at this moment.

Here is why I don't support paying right now. FFXIV still is very unfinished and lacks a lot of features paid mmos should have. I should not have to pay for what really is a beta to help their development. In a paid subscription based game the content should be there already.

Stuff that FFXIV currently lacks or has problems with
*No, AH and mail delivery system.
*No, group search / LFG tool / dungeon finder system
*Laggy UI and battle system
*Lack of Linkshell UI, can't see where members are job levels ect, what level they are, no different ranks/titles, ability to invite/remove manage members.
*overall lack of endgame content once you hit level cap, very few dungeons / bosses.

Almost all this stuff is being addressed by 2.0 but I shouldn't be paying for it when its unfinished.

So that is why I would wait for 2.0 to play FFXIV again hopefully it will be worthy of paying for at that point.

When will the "basic changes" be done?

I am not sure yet. On one hand, 2.0 looks AMAZING! <3 But . . . that is a long way off. I would pay full subscription price for 2.0 or even almost-2.0 in a heartbeat, but this game has so much work to be done to get there. I would be more amenable to a reduced subscription cost, maybe starting at $5 and then halfway through the "transformation" up it to $10, then charge the full amount when 2.0 is ready.

1.18 and 1.19 have brought a lot of great stuff to the game, but there are so many things that "we are still adjusting/need to add/are looking into/will be fixed later" that are minor on their own but that really pile up and irritate me. It would be nice to stick around and watch Eorzea change, though I am not sure it is worth that much to me.

Haven't done a tally on the individuals themselves, but the poll appears to be a 2:1 stay:drop ratio. So a third of the forum community will drop. And I guess they wouldn't be able to post?

Which means the dissatisfaction threads might reduce... But the "I quit" thread might surface for each person unsubscribing instead. And if such were to happen, t'would be potentially constructive for SE to provide a survey when unsubscribing so that a player may indicate the reasons why they're unsubbing, through a list of checkboxes, radio buttons on scales of 1 to 5, and a free form response so that SE can review.

Unless the objective of the "I quit" thread is not to inform SE, but to make a scene with forum community and possibly get others to quit too.

I forget where I was going with this. Ah! I'll pay $13/mo for that. Heck, gimme two more retainers, I'll pay $15.

best bet is to just wait until 2.0 comes out and give it a go.
