A Race Suggestion: Kitsune

God, enough with the cute crap. Have you guys seen the Au'Ra concept art? It destroys what we ended up having. We need more feral or "beastly" races. Viera is the last thing I want. Cats and bunnies, no thanks.

Heck, my biggest issue is the girl Au Ra concept art is hardly that different (The body shapes are basically the same, really the only differences are larger arms and size of the horns) and a good bit of people seem to like it all the much more. Personally I want less sexy or cute races in the future, I was really hoping the Xaela would look like Highlanders in comparison to the Raen's midlander, even that would be more appreciated from me.

I actually used tera for that reason. Notice the ratio of players that do not use Baraka and Amani? As unique and bestial they may look they are by far the less chosen option in that game.

Just because fewer people play them doesn't mean they shouldn't be made. That's just appeal to the lowest common denominator. Having a wide variation of races enriches a game world, which helps lead to longer subscriptions. (sensible) variety adds to long term appeal.
An MMO like this can be more than just simple stock pleasure bait.

We don't need characters which are basically the same with slightly different ears and tails. I mean. What would a fox character look like? A Miquote with slightly fatter ears and a fluffier tail? Come on.

Even if we're trying to keep the races fairly similar, it's way too on the nose. Even the original races have widely varying body types.

Problem is, that's not how things work. With a subscription based MMO you don't appeal to the minority of the players. If Millions of japanese want to play cute races, SE won't stop making them for the sake of a few thousand players.

I personally would love a race that is less human than anything we have now. I always chose the most exotic out of available races and classes. Unless they look like a rock. I mained a castanic in TERA and made an Elin to try out the reaper.

I also don't understand the comparison to the Ronso females. They look pretty much like the same race with different options. They're still a lot better then what we're getting. To be honest, Roe might not be popular due to the fact that they're basically bulky humans. I'd personally would have loved to see a lot more options to them, even the good ol' Galka tail would have been nice.

Just no more animals, we got enough cats as it is now.

These organic races are getting a bit boring now.... I say we need more robots!

How about not pulling new races out of hat and use what's already in the game/lore?

Coming up with a brand new race that somehow no one knew existed every other patch or expansion is going to look really stupid, really quickly.

So then why bother making a new race at all? If X race is the most popular in the game, then there's absolutely no need to make a new race at all. Just stick to what you already have and don't bother.

Well obviously, the majority of the robot race have been lying dormant in the safety of their moon base for a thousand years; the few active units on Eorzean soil remain in constant stealth mode. Its only natural that nobody's heard of them! ;)

I'm not sure that's what he was saying. More options are better in my opinion, but we already have the "cute" (I find them a tired cliche myself) character aspect locked down.

Tera's Elin are what happens when you let freaks get what they want. End of story.

Oh man, Tera's chat log was so terribly bad about Elin's being an player option that I will forever associate them with the worst of the mmo community. So no, I won't take it back. Lala's and Taru chat on the other hand is confined to the "master race" and "punting". Not even close to what was/is said about Elin's. Even though they resemble children. Defend it all you want, I don't like it.

By the by, forums are not meant to be places to change someone else mind set. So I won't even try.

Um, maybe they can work with the races they have now? We have enough anthropomorphic races as it is.

Personally until they have a race that looks more beastly (or "alien") like, then I'll still be wanting a new race. UNLESS, they give interesting options to the races presented to make them look less human. I know I'm harping, but I was really interested in the picture of the race I believe that Au'ra (Don't even care about the race to learn their name) could have looked like.

I decided to group small races, alien-like (undead, orcs, trolls, draenei) and furry races into their own groups. WoW also doesn't have JP players, as well as, there are racials in the mix. However, it is a lot better then looking at Roe's population to say, "Well people don't like Roe much!" Especially since Roe doesn't have anything really unique besides size. Since I'm only looking at one source I can't really use this to make a statement; however, I'm putting this out there to allow you guys to keep an open mind.

Humans: 19%
Elves: 27%
Alien (Orcs, Trolls, Undead, Draenei): 27%
Short: 12%
Furries: 17%

Haha, I definitely agree with that. My curiosity is why they don't make one clan more human orientated well the other takes on more aspects of the dragon (demon?) side. Personally, I'd be happy with just that. Otherwise, I don't see why they can't add a beastly race. Even small things can make a race stand out. Pretty much the best example are Orcs. Though, I'm probably done with this thread. I do understand the other sides opinion; however, I guess it is a personal wish to play this game as something out of the norm. After all, I am a human irl so playing things that are basically humans with accessories doesn't cut it for me. Otherwise, it was interesting "conversation" (As it is a forum) to partake in.

I will gladly admit I am no programmer, artist, or animator. Looking at the issue from a technical view it seems like i t would be more than a little work to implement a race that breaks the mold to drastically. On the subject of filling niche/ nuanced player options, I can not help but see it as... unfair to claim what another person wants has no reason for creation, but what their beautifully unique little monster/golem/werewolf/quadruped/mermaid/lemia/manticore/robot/construct/lizard is much more viable, interesting and over all better.

In no way, shape, or form am i saying it should not be done. Nor am i saying bestial races have no place in FFXIV. I have only cited that due to realistic processing power of the Ps3 perhaps this would not be possible any time soon. Until then what harm is there for someone to request a race that they better suits their "character"? Far to many are to quick to simply say "no, we have enough of x we don't need any more." as if they are the deciding factor...

I present this as an example of what the design teams (possible) thought process are when creating new races/ characters. I am not saying they can't/ wont make something that more accurately portrays a vicious, feral, beast like race. Only pointing out that by and far it seems to not be a focus they adhere to.

I'm only saying we have enough anthropomorphic characters because, as a person that voted for more beastial races, the au ra didn't go far enough.

I really wish they would add a lot more options/characteristics to existing races. Miqote need some actually cat like facial features, not just a dot or jewel on the forehead and some scares. Miqote should have Stripes/leopard spots, dark/pink cat-like noses, more facial marking options with the ability to match it to the hair color.

Miqote just look way too human... give us some options to make them more feral/cat-like.

Back on topic, Bravely Second actually has playable Kitsune, but as a job. It is an odd mix of a black mage and a summoner. It summons demons that grant it certain damage and debuff spells

At first I thought you were talking about the Arcanist Job (fox tail and all that), but then decided to look it up. Didn't even know that was a thing.

There's also that Black Mage PvP set (that can't even be glamoured until you hit Rank 38-39).
