Thanks Rukkirii for the update! I knew it was only something to be temporary, LOL. Much thanks! The future content for Airships does sound very interesting!!

Any dev comments on whether or not the instant travel can remain an option? I do like my options... anybody with me there?
I'd take the scenic route on occasion, even try to force some combat or hang out up there... but, really, most of the time, I just wanna get from city to city asap.
Oh, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. when i read this.
i got this awful twitch in my right eye, with this excruciating feeling of needing to punch a hole in something.Quote:
Airship voyages themselves will take only mere seconds, though there will be sweet little cutscenes accompanying departures and arrivals.
Rukkirii has saved my door, my keyboard, my monitor and my drywall repair....regrettably the news came to late for my mouse, poor mouse, oh how quickly you were replaced by the same make and model.
Ohhhh, don't be facetious.
I don't think anima was ever meant to get to/from City-States save for emergencies - I think they jumped the gun on preparing a mechanic for players to get to and from events with greater ease than FFXI's obnoxious system of teleporting to a chocobo so you can ride until you zone into an area requiring you to walk to the destination.
When the day comes that endgame events exist and getting to and from them requires anima, and getting to HNMs requires anima, and getting to certain party camps requires anima, what answer do you still have for "Why does the airship necessarily have to require a time sink?" What's wrong with keeping the option on the table?
Nostalgia and tradition trump practicality now? I prefer the creation of new and better customs to clinging to ones that are the definition of frivolous.
For myself I liked how FFXI did the airships or boats and stuff, it was nice so I would like them to have it in the future.
It's only 15min or w/e I don't see anything wrong with that, if you need to get somewhere faster use anima.
Having the airships take as long as actually walking there sorta defeats the purpose of it. Airships in ffxi were cool the first few times but after a few years they just became a waste of time. I think they should have the long ride but give you the option to skip it if you want to.
How about a casino airship that gets into each city's port every 10 minutes.
You could play poker, play the slot machines, bet on monster fights, and the like.

boooooooo, they need to still keep the fast travel version as well, keep the ride for those who want it. i'd use it but only when i want to fish on it, or when i want to kill something on it. that is only reason we should ever be forced to sit on a boat for 10mins instead of just moving onto what we were doing.

You can't fish on an air ship it's in the air not on water. I like the idea of getting that short 10 break. Use that time to go AFK. Strech your legs, rest your eyes or do whatever else you need to during that time. And when they offer mini quest and such to that portion of the game, GREAT!!! Then there will be even more reason to use the airships. I agree with countless others... Not everything has to be instant and you have alternative methods such as teleport and return. Use them.
would be cool if you could own your own airship that way you dont have to wait for it to arrive.
So airships are gonna take ten million years to travel on like ferries?
Well, guess a lot of people won't travel unless they have Anima just like currently. I think most people wanted airships so they'd have an option to quickly get from place to place when they run out of Anima by paying a Gil-based fee.
And for those people saying "durr use Anima" you might notice it gets used up pretty quickly. Now if they made Aetheryte transport between towns cost no Anima so you can get to a main town quickly if you're in a hurry, then sure, go for 10-15 minute airship rides.
Hey, lets all ask for insta-travel chocobos too!
Just kidding! I think temporary insta-travel airships are a nice gift to make up for the fact that anima has been our sole way of long distance traveling for so long. In the end, different methods of travel should have different tradeoffs. If you have to get to a city in a hurry, and you have no anima, you can still pay gil for a tele-taxi.
oh please stop over exaggerating, the ferry ride in FFXIV is no where near as long as the ones in FFXI where, and the airship rides wont be any longer then the ferry ones. It will be a 5min ride at most, and that is the whole point..... yes use anima, that is what it is there for, a "oh crap I need to get there right now" button.
It seems some people don't get the point of anima, it is not to be your main source of travel, you are to use chocobos/ferries/airships to get around, and use anima when you are in a hurry.
Point is once 1.19 comes out, use anima in moderation.
That first paragraph wasn't too much whining and bitching, that's an objective statement. He even started with "I respectfully disagree." It's your own fault you didn't use the time to read the rest of his post and it really hurts your argument when you're trying to blame people for being spoiled for instant gratification.Quote:
I stopped reading after the 1st paragraph.. too much whining and bitching.
In the second paragraph he outlines his solution to make everyone happy:
That's an all inclusive and forward thinking compromise that actually calls for more legitimate gameplay content. Waiting is not content and it never will be. Having things to do justifies the time spent for an airship ride. Unfortunately your post only calls for a condemnation of a misappropriated idea.Quote:
If you want to make everyone happy, make a longer airship ride available when you release the first expansion. For example, take the airship ride from Jeuno to Kazham from FFXI. Something like this would be the perfect opportunity to create a longer ride, which you can view the land passing underneath. Furthermore, since this airship is taking you to a more dangerous, hostile area this would be a great instance to implement Airship Pirate attacks. If you made defeating these pirates have a cool reward, then all the people upset that there is no airship ride can just ride this ship all day and kill pirates and be satisfied.
I'm okay with the instant travel. You'll already have to wait for the airship to dock in your departure location anyways and you might even need to pay gil to do so. That's trade off enough. Time wasting mechanics do not create difficulty or useful content. I'm also in favor of future content of a possible airship battle or storyline cutscenes that are initiated by boarding the airship. To point out that the cutscene gets boring the "1000th" time is literally no exaggeration. More than likely we'll be playing this for years and being on an airship 1000 times is plausible. I'd rather spend time playing the game than waiting to play it. Besides, the option to enjoy the scenery and waste time is still available to anyone who wants it. Go out and explore, utilize different party camps, stop grinding raptors. You'll be surprised how much fun you can have. I know I do.
Nothing pleases you people does it?
I really hope they keep it the way it is and do the same with the boat. Sure it looks nice at first, but then it gets mind numbingly boring sitting around with nothing to do.
What did I tell ya'll. BUT NOOOOO NOONE WANT TO LISTEN TO PRINCESS
The whole point of airship travel is to enjoy the scenary. I find it kinda amusing that with they way they are implementing it atm, they could've just had it implemented already. You would think with the amount of time we'd had to wait it would've already had the ability to enjoy the scenary from above rather then be a 10 seconds CS lol.
just adding my voice to the mass.... I agree with OP
I want FFXII airship
Yes! Zooooooooooom, arrive
We get official translation for this one yet?
copy/paste for those that didn't see it from the translation thread.

Perhaps sometime down the line implement a system for baiting flying NM to attack airships and have airship battles, perhaps even random attacks on airships.
Let's just hope they give us some reason to want to spend some time on the airship. Otherwise they could have just made it so that teleports between the three cities costs 0 anima when you're already in one of the cities. They could have skipped a lot of dev resources and implemented it last year.
This seem like a dumb idea lol
Player1: Going to take the ship going to skip it
Player2: i like the ship ride so i'm not.
Player1: -.- you joking right? we need to hurry up there waiting on us
Player2: Fine ok i skip it also
This is like COP all over again when linkshell make you skip the CS " I for one said hell no i'm watching this"
Seem like a waste of work when 99.9% of people just going to Skip it for that don't even work on it if you going to allow us to pick the speed.
I'm just upset that the developers seem to be afraid to add content that may actually...kill time. Warping city to city should be limited, hell even in XI their were 12 different ways to get to your destination and many of them either took time or cost you something.
I guess I'm just thinking that there needs to be a cost associated with insta warping allover the place. I'm used to you know...walking to a place. If I took to long to get their then it was my fault for being 1000 miles away from it when I knew I had to be somewhere.
I'm upset at how much the developers are pandering to the "I want it now" crowd. I just don't get the point of spending the time setting up the airships if they are not even going to be used for god knows how long for "Airship content" quests and such. The system could have been on the back-burner until then and just adjusted how Anima warping cost in towns.
I guess MMO's don't work the way they used too and I need to get used to that. I'm suprised we can't anima warp directly to the darkhold for all the 5 minutes people actually have to walk to get their. or even need to walk around the towns to get anything done. Might as well just pick my quests from the citizens up at the lev counter as well because it "Takes too long" for me to walk around the town talking to NPC's.
With the advent of instant warps to towns and Chocobos I do hope the Anima system gets a hard nerf at least...but I doubt it.
