Actually Lauren Faust and Hasbro have refused to file suit against people who have broken copyright on My Little Pony. They view it as free publicity. As long as your not selling hand made toys based directly off the characters in the show (You can sell rebranded characters you made yourself) they dont care. Thats why all those parody and edited videos on Youtube are all still up.

Obviously we all want our game to succeed, in a way, it's like a second home for us. But in order to make that happen, we do need way more subs. So we need to be mature and stop to think "Is this really going to benefit the future of this game or is it just another passing fad that will be funny for a while then just get old?". Don't get me wrong, I feel that MLP and all it's glory has a place, but I just don't think that place is FFXIV.

People rage about My Little Pony reference when there is DBZ and other references already in the game? sad sad sad! I say keep the My Little Chocobo! name. Heck I think there is a quest even in WoW that plays on the My Little Pony.... people just are too prudish and "manly" and would be to embarassed to be associated with anything that is POPULAR in pop culture. Get over yourself if you have a problem with it... All you complainer's want to do is take away from any fun people could have with a little joke...

they did this in XI with all the parodies (BCNM's anyone?) i say let them keep it, WHO CARES WERE GETTING CHOCOBOS!! cant ppl be happy for that AFTER PLAYING THIS FOR A YEAR STRAIGHT?

Sorry man, the people that are turned off by references to "childish" things in a game would probably not like this game anyways, because it definitely has its cheesy and childish moments. This game is not, and never will be an ultra realistic, grim, dark, adult-only game. SE liberally uses childish humor and slapstick comedy in their games.

The name is alright ONLY if it aplies to the "raising". The quest to get a chocobo egg/s would bear this name perfectly.

Petition to keep this and other brony references in the game: signed! Keep the name.

Never watched a single episode, but I want the haters to raage. Also, can we have moar rainbows in our menus?

As I said in the other topic about this name, the 16th French letter doesn't mention anything about "My Little Pony". The system is unnamed at all. It just says that we will get Chocobos. The reason is that "Mon Petit Poney" isn't popular at all here and few people know about it. It has been translated and dubbed but it didn't find any audience. Only thing I remember is toys for kids and really thought it was designed for toys. I read the German one as well and no Pony there.

All that is to say that this joke was cracked by the one who translated the original letter from Japanese to English. I'm not even sure that Yoshida or any other person except the English localisation service was aware of this before some start to argue. And not sure if they are now. Prolly yes.

Thus it's not something we can actually discuss of, it's a cultural matter, something that only/mostly American-English people can catch the reference. Only those who know this cartoon can and it wasn't an internationnal success or equally broadcasted.

If they keep the name it will only bother a few people in the Countries where the cartoon could be watched ('cause I know some there don't care as well). If they change the name it won't change anything for the rest of the World and the ones who don't care there.

That's just the name of the system and yes making people rage is not a reason for a game designer to implement that feature.

Well obviously references will change on language.

I don't think "Get to the Copper" or "Canes for the Citizens" are the same in English as they are in French or German.
They might even have references to Babar or Asterix and Oblix or something, or they might not have references at all.

I play the game in English as it's easier to speak with LinkShell mates and other players but during Bêta I had a few days in French and you are right I saw some nice references. I catched some in English and Citizen Kane among others is a good one but Orson Welles is pretty popular everywhere the Cinema exists.

I know if they had the Chocobo system named "Mon Chocobo et moi" in the letter (which sounds flat), some French people would have started a topic like the ones here but it wouldn't have made a difference for me, that's a name. And could just be the name of the quest. Like Esk said, the mount systems don't have names, only the quest to get the right to ride so all in all it shouldn't matter that much. But I understand why some are against, but not at his level of hatred.

Dont really care too much for the name but i hope the MY chocobo is not like the XI one where u have to start off with a snail of a chocobo

Slightly off topic: Who added the failed troll attempt tag? This was a successful troll attempt. Please review the definition of troll. Onto more serious business: once the chocobos are released, are they going to be sufficiently well-endowed or will I be needing to create a new thread?
