Well I tried again. Meadow Green to Corpse Blue...got Sky Blue again. It said 7 valfruit and 7 plum using the updated color scale. I fed alternating 1 by 1. I feel bad wasting so many fruits at this point.

so my choco is kobold brown and want soot black, supposed its 1 plum but after 1 plum the new feathers message didnt pop up , what now ?D:

I'm currently tryin the ochu green. I feed the fruits but the feather didn't proc on the last apple, but before. So?

Since i'm panicking over this, i tried to see if i could figure this out myself and... i just saw wich food was the last proc at and inserted the fruits i gave to the choco until the last proc. Sheet says i'm in ochu green anyway so maybe... is not telling me there is a proc cause i already had it? would be cool xD

I've been using the guide to get much closer to Ink Blue than I've gotten...I ended up at Midnight Blue which was just 1x Apple, 1x Pineapple, 2x Pear, though instead of Ink Blue I ended up all the way back at Abyssal Blue...I checked on the spreadsheet and none of the colour values dropped to 0 or 255 and I don't entirely understand what you meant by getting the "To Target" part withing -/+ 5 of eachother...no matter how I arrange the feeding the "To Target" part always stays the same...

Anyway I'm going to try again with my current setup from Abyssal Blue -> Ink Blue. It is currently 4x Berry, 3x Pear, 3x Apple, 4x Pear, 4x Apple. None of the colours hit 0 or 255 and the "To Target" Is -4, 12, 10 is that bad...?

I've been managing my FC's chocobo colors with your microfeeding guide, and it's been awesome!

I managed to get most of the colors finished, and recently one of my FCmates asked if I could take them from Shadow Blue to Ink Blue.
However, it looks like the Chocobo Color Simulator spreadsheet hasn't updated its RGB values? When I use the calculator using the updated RGB scale, it says that Shadow Blue is (57, 57, 73) and Ink Blue is (27, 32, 40), but on the spreadsheet, Shadow Blue is (63, 55, 71) and Ink Blue is (31, 39, 47). So I may be getting the wrong values when I put in the fruit to make sure nothing hits 0 or 255.

Is there an updated color simulator spreadsheet I can use to split up the feedings, or is it time to break out the calculator?

Is anyone able to help me? I seem to be stuck in a loop between Sky Blue and Celeste Green. I want Corpse Blue. I've tried the calculators and spreadsheets and I didn't, to my understanding, see any complications. I alternated feedings to avoid maxing out numbers.

What colour would I get if I went 0,255,255? That should be cyan/aqua. Or are the colours of the chocobos limited and it will give it the colour those number are closest too?

How exactly does the feathers proc interact with this method? I was trying to go from Blood Red to Soot Black as the OP detailed, so I fed the amount/order listed: 12x Berry, 10x Pear, 2x Apple. My result was Mesa Red.

Figuring it must only count the feather messages, I changed my calculation to 8x Berry, 6x Pear, and 2x Apple according to my chat log. However, the result for this is (87, 41, 40), and Mesa Red is (127, 59, 6). How did I get here? 8-12 Berries and 6-10 Pears only lowered red by 20? There were no zeroes involved.

I really don't understand how the feathers proc factors into all this--or is the idea to simply keep repeating the microfeeding math/method each 6 hours until it actually reaches the target color?

Feather proc doesn't factor into color change at all - it's simply an indication that a color change has occurred. Color change is based on a sum total of the values of all the fruit fed to your chocobo. (It is possible that removing the chocobo from the stable after molting 'normalizes' him at his current hue, but I haven't tested enough to be sure). A feather proc indicates that the RGB values of the chocobo have changed enough that they are now closer to a new color than they are to their starting color. Since each fruit fed to the chocobo modifies the RGB values by a variable amount, it's impossible to know exactly where your chocobo's RGB values are once you start feeding.

The closest color to pure Cyan is Sky Blue so that's what color your chocobo would end up being. Similarly pure red is closest to Sunset Orange, pure green to Cactuar Green, pure blue to Royal Blue, pure yellow to Honey Yellow, and pure magenta to Colibri Pink. In theory these should be the easiest colors to reach since feeding a single type of fruit will eventually end at these colors (in actuality, there is usually a more efficient way to reach each color).

re: "normalizing hue," I had my chocobo stuck going from Deepwood Green -> Marsh Green -> Deepwood Green. Today I fed it 1 Pineapple + 1 Valfruit to get it theoretically to soot black, but not feather proc happened. After reading this, I removed the chocobo, restabled, then fed 1 pineapple, then got the feather message.

I don't know if that necessarily proves or disproves the normalization thing, since it's also possible that the fruits are just RNG and didn't produce enough change the first time.

I have been wanting to make a Rhotano blue chocobo but I haven't messed with the gardening as I don't know how to unlock the ability to do it everytime I try to it tells me I can't garden yet :/ and find it all a little up to chance I wish it was just selectable...

I'm pretty sure you just need to do the Seeds of Change quest in Vesper Bay. You also either need a private house or the right permissions in your FC.

It's a good sign. I started with a Sylph Green choco, fed it pears to color proc and got Apple Green after molt, which was predicted. Leaving it stabled, I fed it berries until proc, which should have been Meadow Green. Instead I got Celeste Green - which wasn't predicted from Apple Green, but was possible if I followed the RGB values from Sylph Green. Following the berry path from Sylph Green, the next color proc should have been Corpse Blue; however the berry path from pure Celeste Green is Sky Blue. I restabled my choco and fed him berries until proc - the result was Sky Blue. This is promising, but isn't conclusive evidence for normalization as the RNG or inaccurate color charts could explain the result.

I'm having an awful lot of trouble with this. At first I was stuck looping between Deepwood Green and Marsh Green (3x each actually,) then I managed to get it to change to Kobold brown. OP suggested 1 plum, which I used, and that put me at Ink Blue, which needs up to 6 fruit to get to Soot Black! I don't understand this system :/ How can putting in 1 fruit = 6 fruits of error?

It's not really costing me a lot in the way of fruit/gil right now, but I'm really frustrated with how much time this is taking when it's so theoretically "close."

Kobold brown is identified as (50, 34, 28). A plum is -5/+5/+5 which puts it (theoretically) at (45, 39, 33). Soot Black is (45, 43, 36,) so all numbers are within +/-5. Instead I get Ink Blue, (27, 32, 40), which is a difference of -18, -7, +7 (just from one fruit!) Is the RNG really that bad?

Part of the problem is that the transition values in those color ranges are very close so even a low RNG makes it possible to hit 2 or even 3 colors with a single fruit. Part of the problem is we don't know what RGB value your chocobo is at. For example - you may have been at ~ (42,26,36) which is closest to Kobold Brown - one plum would put you at ~ (37,31,41) which is closest to Ink Blue. From that point I would try a pineapple - since it neutralizes the strong blue and lightens the colors slightly.

I don't remember what I fed my chocobo last night (I know it was just one fruit again though,) and now I have Deepwood Green. I have no idea where I am really, so I just followed the calc's instructions of 1x Valfruit again just to see where it gets me. I feel like I'm just getting knocked around by RNG and overshooting Soot Black every time.

For what it's worth, here's a pastebin of the feedings I've been keeping track of (though unfortunately, I didn't record what I fed last night when it was at Ink Blue.)

Thanks I will look for that quest. My FC has a house and I believe the garden is open to me here is hoping I can have my dyed chocbo soon now :)

Maybe I missed the answer in the discussion thread, but has there been any indication that stable quality affects the strength of the affect of foods?

Deepwood Green from Ink Blue is usually undershooting Soot Black - one more pineapple should do the trick at that point. A valfruit might also work, but there's a chance of hitting Kobold Brown. So, since you fed a valfruit - if you hit Soot Black, you're good. If you hit Kobold Brown, take the choco out of the stable and restable - then feed a plum. If you hit Soot Black you're good, if Deepwood Green the next feed is a pineapple (don't restable).

i don't have a big special color like neon lime or regal purple.

but the color i want for my chocobo is butter yellow, i don't see that as an option however and the 2 colors that i seem to be pointed to are honey yellow and cream yellow.

while i see a list for both i don't know exactly how to mix the fruit feedings.

cream yellow is:
5 × Valfruit, 6 × Pineapples, 6 × Plums

and honey yellow is:
1 × Pears, 2 × Apples, 5 × Pineapples

So I need help I did color my chocobo but then revert back to the original color so I can re color my chocobo but he's not taking the food I need to feed him am I doing something wrong please help thanks

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to get my chocobo to Othard Blue with no luck. I'm back at the default Desert Yellow, what would I need to get it to Othard Blue? I've used the calc, I tried to recalc it, and read online guides. I've gotten ranges from browns to greens. I'm at a loss.

So I have spent the last 2-3 days trying to get soot black and ended up the in the marsh, kobold, ink, loop.

The important of that table being at the top:
"These HEX values are confirmed as exact as of Patch 2.38. Please do not edit them without certainty of their adjustment."

I've compared them to both tables in the google docs calculator and they all differ from each other. Has anyone been able to confirm that that table which claims to be exact is actually exact? If so should the google template be updated to reflect these more specific values?

I manually adjusted my color table for my current Marsh Green and fed based on that so I'll now in 6 hours if it helped or not. In the meantime the info above could be useful for review.

Hi, I'm on Raisin brown. I just fed My chocobo 1 x berry, 1 x plum, 2 x berry in that order. Do you think that will get me soot black? Right now I'm deeply regretting not using the plum first........ It's going to be a long six hours!

I was wondering if it was possible to get from Royal Blue to Shadow Blue, since that is the colour I would prefer right now.

Is it easier to change from Royal Blue to Shadow Blue or should I give my chocobo a Han Lemon and go back to Desert Yellow first and try for Shadow Blue then..?

Ohh, yes. I've always used that and it's never failed for me. I've heard of some difficulty using it when going to soot black or snow white, but haven't experienced that myself.

It at least gets you extemely close to the desired color. For all shades of blue I never had any trouble getting exactly the color I want, violet was one shade too bright and would have needed 1-3 additional fruits.
For soot black I got the darkest green, so again, 2 fruits off. Not a big deal at that point when that tool calculates all the fruit to jump from one side of the color spectrum to the other pretty much perfectly :)

So for example something like Pineapple - Apple - Pineapple - Pear - Apple - Pineapple.

I managed to get my chocobo to Grape Purple, but I am still trying desperately for Shadow Blue.

I checked the Chocobo Colour Calculator and it told me to feed 1 Valfruit > 1 Pineapple > 2 Doman Plum, so I broke the feeding up and alternated the fruits and fed them all until I got the changing feathers message.

When I came back my chocobo was not Shadow Blue, yet again, but ended up back at Gloom Purple, which seems to be what I keep becoming stuck at.

The Calculator says to feed 4 O'Ghomoro Berries > 4 Xelphatol Apple > 5 Mamook Pear. Last time when I alternated the fruits one after the other until they were all fed I went from Gloom Purple to Grape Purple..not Shadow Blue.

Please, any help or ideas as to what I'm doing wrong??

There is also a part of 'randomness' that plays against us.

You can try to feed one fruit at a time, when you see changing feathers, then you wait 6 hours to see, and then move from there.

Took me quite a while to get my soot black, I used the images to help me as well as the calculator.

As you can see on the chart, Shadow Blue isn't even on the list, so the person who experimented never got the colour. >.<

A person fed their Chocobo the following from the Default colour of desert yellow (just go buy a Han Lemon to reset)

11 apple 14 pear 25 berries
(3x berry 1x apple 1x pear) x7
(1x berry 1x apple 1x pear) x4
3x pear
= CHARCOAL GREY

4 apples, 4 pears, 4 berries
(New Feathers notification happened after the 4th apple, then pear, then berry, adding 1 each at a time)
Got three feather notifications in total for this second set, one after each 4th fruit you fed
Ended up with Shadow Blue

I've managed to get stuck in an endless loop between Peacock Blue (59, 104, 134) and Sky Blue (131, 176, 210). The suggested fruit from the calculator page -should- get me Seafog blue (100, 134, 160), but they don't. I've not just fed one sort all the time, but alternated.

I've tried wrapping my head around microfeeding, but A) the sheet doesn't work on my computer and shows only errors when I open it, and B) while I can write here reasonably okay, my English fails me when I try to understand microfeeding.

I wonder what I need to change? I'm currently at Peacock Blue and want to get to Seafog Blue.
RGB (59, 104, 134) to RGB (100, 129, 160)

Difference: R: 41, G: 25, B: 26

Suggested feed:
6x Doman Plum, 7x Cieldalaes Pineapple, 7x Valfruit

I've now fed it four Mammok Pears to maybe get to Turquoise and break the loop. Update follows.

So I had my plumage change, and it gives me some hope at least. Five Xelphatol apples procced another plumage change, and RNG willing, it could well be Seafog. Oh well. *fingerscrossed*

Update: Ceruleum Blue. Which comes from the purple spectrum, oddly enough.

OK I definitely need help I'm going through an infinite loop that pretty much always come back to deepwood green I need help other that the calculator since that's what created the loop
