PSN is down

EDIT: apparently this person is the reason for everything and Lizardsquad tried to claim the credit for it.

Its because you are connected to FFXIV's servers.

In order to get access to those servers, you need to be online (sony). So since you logged in before it went down, your already connected to SE directly so your golden as far as FFXIV is concerned.

Now if somehow you lost connection...then it means you just joined the "outside looking in" club.

As long as you're in game, even if PSN kicks you out of the PS network, you're okay. You just can't log in with PSN down.

You don't need PSN Plus to play FF XIV.
You only need to be log in to your PSN accont before you can log in to the SE servers (the PSN account and the SE service account are linked together).

Yeah, that makes sense. I made it in the club before the bouncer got shot. Trying to find a pug T8 and T9 clear for the week before my new static starts and these asshats might have ruined my clear streak by kicking off a lot of people.

Just was able to log in (on PS3), not sure if they're done doing whatever they're doing but keep trying if you can't still get in.

I'm not even going to try anymore, it gets old to try again and again.

Well, in that case, there is no reason why we couldn't potentially have it so that we don't need the PSN to be up. It would just be that they'd have to change a few things specifically for the event that it is down.

My connection went down after the earthquake :S

I'm west coast (Victorville, CA), and have no access atm.

I'm in East Coast US (Florida) logged in about 15 mins ago. This was after constantly trying for over an hour straight.

It works now for me

I'm east coast and still no luck. Been trying for 2 hrs straight.

Oh yea i'm ok here ty^^ was scary thou as for me i'm in north CA i got into the game then got booted then was in for an hour but had to log and now i can't get in but if you call sony. Right away there messenger says they know psn is down and will be up soon {hope there not full of crap} but yes

I've been hearing that PS3 players were getting in, but haven't heard anything about ps4 yet. Which is why I was curious. The only difference I can think of is that the PS4 requires PSN Plus for certain online services, but someone said that wasn't true for FF14.

PS4 here and i was in for a hour with no probs {after log i'm out now :P} and i don't have ps plus

PS4 requires routine licence checks on digital downloads so if you bought 14 digitally and you're system is waiting for the licence confirmation you won't be able to log in as it can't authenticate your copy of the game. I don't believe PS3 has the same issue so that is why PS3 players are starting to be able to log on and some PS4 users can't.

Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot you can do to prevent DDOS attacks on servers that are already high traffic. A DDOS attack is simply spamming a server with requests/data until it crashes. You can redirect traffic across all the servers you want but a connection into your network is always going to start with one server (Lobby in the case of FFXIV) which can easily be flooded faster than it can reroute connections.

I'm sure Squeenix would prefer this but Sony even going back to the PS2 has had requirements for network authentication (DNAS on PS2) in order to verify your console, the game software etc. If FFXIV wasn't a game there wouldn't be a problem. Netflix etc. get around it because they're a service. I think the only way FFXIV could get classed as a "service" instead of a game is if the game software itself was free. That would negate any need for software authentication by Sony. I can remember a lot of DNAS issues playing XI on PS2 for a long while.

Personally, jailbreaks aren't really an issue. In personal opinion, jailbreaks are actually, for the most part, a good thing. Even without jailbreaks, bad stuff can happen. It is people that are bad. I really hate how people do stuff that affect many people instead of simply their target. It is like: Oh hey, let us go and destroy these two cities full of innocent people to prove a point to their government. Well, considering how big of an item square is, I'm sure they could probably give sony a reason to make an exception. I mean, Square already has their own verification process that the player has to go through.

I'd expect MS to have better protection since the Xbox One out of the box is a paperweight that requires an update which lets you use it on offline mode that you need internet to download in the first place. Sony could definitely be more secure, but to inconvenience the free days of people who just want to play a game trying to teach them a "lesson" is outright self-righteous and honestly pathetic that they (the attackers) have nothing better to do with their time.
