Cool.
Is that 2 apples sequentially or 2 apples at once?
Printable View
It was at once, the chocobos who were fed one fruit had no change
The number of fruit produced, tells me each one will only raise or lower the RGB by 1. Since it goes from 0 to 255
ok, blue lightening took me 3 fruits to show the message, red 6, idk if it's bugged or every fruit has different values.

rather disappointing result after 36x of all 3 "Lightening" feeds. Oh well

hmm so this will take a while huh.
I subtracted 36 from Red 255 and Greed 255. Now it is Green 219, Red 219 Blue is still 0.
Compared that to the online RGB chart and it looks the same, So it is safe to say. That each fruit will increase/decrease by 1 Q_Q
I'm starting to think that you need to do ONE color at a time. Such as, lighten the red to a certain point and then lighten or darken another color to a certain point. I don't think we can mix colors in one go?
That's judging from the results already posted. zandervont should have had the most radical change with the amount that they fed their chocobo.
according to my result, i would bet that the starting Hue is something around 250-250-36.
At least Cieldalaes Pineapples dont seem to change the plumage anymore. Doman Plums still give me the "Hojomojo's plumage will change in 6 hours." and "Hojomojo is beginning to grow new feathers!" messages.
Results:
- 1 Apple: no change (Devee)
- 2 Apples: Desert Yellow (original) > Millioncorn Yellow (more reddish) (Devee)
- 36 of each "Lighten" fruits: Desert Yellow (original) > Honey Yellow (more saturated yellow) (zandervont)
Possibilities:
- There is a limitation on the number of fruits taken into account
- You cannot change more than one color "step" at a time
- You need more than one fruit to have a change
Maybe the key is the message "beginning to grow new feathers" means feeding more won't help after this point.
In their defense, there is a good amount of precedent that getting a coloured chocobo is an achievement requiring a significant time investment. Getting the Gold Chocobo is one of the hardest things in both FFVII and FFIX in terms of overall time spent. I believe the only exception to the rule is in FFXIII-2/3, in which you can get them just by finding them.
On the topic at hand, does anyone have an actually RGB scale for the various dyes? That doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to get. If not, I will look into making one when I get off work.
This seems a likely supposition. Based on zandervont's results, I suspect that only the first step on a single colour applies. If all three lightening aspects had applied, the Red and Green channels would have been fully saturated and the Blue channel would have either maintained the same level of saturation, or washed it out closer to white.
So can we feed them one at a time until we get the message, or do you only get to feed them once and then wait 6 hours?
going to feed 27x Doman Plums now, bringing the total up to 63 of those.
Guess it'd be just too darned much to ask them (SE) to tell us for sure how to do it? *sigh*
I don't mind the grind, I just want to know HOW to do it so I don't waste my time.
I'm so excited that it dyes the entire chocobo, I don't think I'll mind feeding my chocobo for a few weeks (or months if they make it scale or something).
I did 1x Mamook Pear, but after seeing the posts on color/feed results, I followed up and fed it 3x Xelaphol Apples, in an attempt to see a change more towards red, 4 hours and counting ><!
Ok, so feeding the bird 2 fruits = 1 step color change, but feeding the bird 36 fruits also = 1 step color change? :/

eta: result Millioncorn Yellow
Could be just me but i think the chocobo with the Honey yellow color can't get any more yellow than it already is.
Someone on reddit posted his chocobo after feeding 3 Apples and 3 O'Ghomoro Berries. It became Cork Brown

If what I'm thinking is correct, only the two first fruits will be usefull.
So, you would have a +Red and +Green, meaning that the basic Desert yellow will start looking a bit pink. Edit: NOPE, not pink, my bad... more... Yellow.
I guess I'll have my answer in 4 hours.
Edit: Nice find, so it would actually be a combination of 2 to 3 fruits to have a change.
Well... that opens up a lot of possible results...
This is why I'm going to wait until either:
A: The players figure it out and there'll be a guide on how to dye your Chocobo out online.
or
B: SE throws us a bone and tells us how to to do. (highliy unlikely but a girl can hope!)
*sigh* I just want my Frobisher to be rolanberry red.. is that to much to ask?!?
After seeing this thread I fed my chocobo some more fruits.
I had given him 1 O'Ghomoro berry earlier today.
I just gave him another one and nothing appeared on screen so I used 2 more, after that it showed the message "It's Growing new feathers" and showed the time until the process completes. (1h 44m)
I assume that every time that the "New feathers" message appears it changes from one colour to another.
(I'll post the results as soon as the time passes.)
These results are frustratingly inconsistent. We might have to throw out the idea of a pure RGB scale and consider a more fluid conversion scheme. That Brown really throws a wrench in the monkey. There is no reasonable explanation for why three (3) Apples would make that change according to our current theory.
fed it one doman plum, nothing changed.
So it is for sure that you need more than one.
The problem is everyone is testing and throwing everything they want at it.. We're not really organized testing. i.e the person who fed the 36x of the 3 lightening foods only got honey yellow, someone would need to replicate that with less fruit to find the limit of fruits per 6hr.. One person got Millioncorn yellow from 2x Apples, does this mean a +4R -9.5G -18B per apple? or perhaps a % instead of solid values.. The testing varies, therefore results vary :D The brown probably came from the fact that it was 3 apples + 3 berries. and if each fruit gives a +/- to one color and a -/+ to another color the result was brown makes some sense.. I think xD?
Can we still train them while they are sitting in the stables for the 6 hours? Or will that ruin it?
So what do you do to get a black chocobo? Deepen all the colors or lighten them all?
I had my chocobo go through a transformation
Fruits used: x5 O'Ghomoro Berries / x5 Mammok Pears / x5 Xelphatol Apples
Desert Yellow --> Millioncorn Yellow

That's understandable, but the biggest issue is that Cork Brown [197, 139, 79]. Given that Desert Yellow is [216, 175, 80], that's a delta value of [-19, -36, -1] from a set of fruits that should have been [-r, =, -b]. Those values are completely skewed from their predicted adjustments.
Edit: oops, calculated the wrong way.
