Yeah I wouldn't jump to conclusions here OP. Nothing anywhere has ever stated the "companion" chocobo is out of the question for marriage.
In fact, I expected it to be used elsewhere.
HA...What a childishly large amount of money XD

Although the difference was that it just required a single month payment to get the mount, with exp and teleport benefits as a default. A 3 month payment can be a deterrence for a lot of people, especially when you don't get anything else that betters your character in such a way that's meaningful. Also, while the exp boost is nice, it's only to lv25. I can get power leveled currently to 20 in around 2 hours. Not very worthwhile for the benefit portion of it, IMO. Maybe if it was to 40, if not 50, then yeah... might be very much worth a 3 month payment for a lot of people. I do give them credit on the teleport part though... that seems handy since it can be used for any new player.
Edit: nevermind, just checked. It's 2 months payment on WoW for the RAF mounts. Coulda swore it was 1... or maybe it was 3 too... /shrug. But looking through it did also remind me that the recruiter got a free month subscription for it.
Besides the fact that some of us came here partly because we were tired of that crap in other MMOs. I was really happy that I could get all the minions and stuff without having to pay $10 for each one.
You know, there's people that don't like to raid and that, instead, play the game mainly to collect things and just be social. And, for these people, vanity is as important as gear is for a raider, thus these things affect their normal gameplay. Just because someone doesn't care about something it doesn't mean that someone else shouldn't. And that's why everything should be attainable in-game and with our sub.
If in ARR vanity is not as important to gameplay as everything else, then lets stop putting any minions, housing features, marriage, etc. in updates. This is not going to happen, so I don't really see why they can put just part of it. While we're at it, they could also give i110 gear to people going to the fanfest, and as a reward for the RAF program when your friend subscribes for 180 days, right?
It's having such uproar over small things like these that tempts me to begin mocking players.
There had been such uproars about Legacy players and the perks they receive as well, and here I see even less of a reason to be upset (nobody is receiving a monetary advantage). I'd allude to the tale of the Boy who Cried Wolf, but sadly that allegory has already been slain at the end of 2.0's story.
It would cost you about $80 to make an account to receive the mount. If 125,000 people do this, then that is $10 Million. The Game has about 1.5 Million subscribers right now, so having less than 10% of the people buy a new account just to get a mount is not out of the question. My estimate may be on the low because of how much weigh the player base of this game puts on vanity items.
I actually quit WoW over this, I pay the monthly for all the content with a forgiven sentiment to expansions due to their abnormal content additions- entitled maybe not but definitely they are empowered to say no. Now only if the general consumer (of any nation) could actually say no, "I hate it" *still buys it and all related contents*. I /loathe/ the idea of cash shops.
Wont quit over one thing, specially since beyond collection sake I guess it doesn't really bother me not ride it, I'd rather ride my cat or fat chocobo.. lol. "Obtains new mount, still rides first mount ever received".
Anyone able to get a closer screenshot of the friendship circlet?
i don't understand why should they limit it. why shouldn't people that go to Fanfest get something extra? why shouldn't people that bring in another subscriber get something extra?
and if you believe they should get stuff, what types of stuff would you give them?
only thing i dont like that other non-mmos are doing that 1 or 2 years down the line put that stuff up to buy (like the collector edition upgrade) the minions mounts etc, so everyone gets a chance to get it and the people that get it first has year or two having it exclusive to just them
brb making another FFXIV account to refer myself
believe it or not, I'm going to do the same if there is no way to get a double seat chocobo by other means (if we ever get info at all >_>), because that was a feature I was eagerly waiting for and most of all a feature I have a need for (wether people would consider my "need" to use it to enjoy fully my gameplay is out of consideration).
but well, spliting the price in 2 makes it less painful, but it still hurts a lot.
The same stuff already in game, but faster. That's all. So, their reward would be getting a little something before someone else, but said someone else could still get it by playing the game normally. I would be ok with a system like that for stuff like OST, RAF program, and real life events (but with that I wouldn't condone a cash shop, just in case someone thinks about it). Remember that people don't (or shouldn't) go to the fanfest because of the gifts, and people don't (or shouldn't) want to play with their friends just because of a mount.
Otherwise they're just saying that vanity stuff doesn't matter as much as other content. Then, as I said, stop putting it in updates at all. And also, stop bringing back "one time" promotional events too, like Lightning's, if vanity doesn't really matter, as there's no point to it. Otherwise, it really matters, and they're locking content.
1.0 launch:
Asuran Armguard - for everyone who bought FF XIII
Onion Helm - for everyone who bought FF XIV CE
Garlond Google - for everyone who bought FF XIV Standard
Hermes Shoes - for everyone who had an active FF XI account
To get all you needed FF XIII, 2* FF XIV and FF XI. You see, bonus items are really nothing news in FF XIV since 2010.
So please, stop to be shocked that there are bonus items (not cash shop items) obtainable outside of the game
Got mine yesterday - Really like the mount and the circlet!! :)
To those panicking about this chocobo being only for the friend recruitment....You got nothing to worry about.
The marriage chocobo looks differently than the friend recruitment one. It will still be there for marriage.
Yes. And the moogle earrings, and the pre-order bonuses, and the ARR Collector's items, etc. Plus whatever other promo items they had that I don't recall off-hand.
I'm well aware. And I'd hoped they'd eventually dump that stuff onto retainer ventures or something and move towards a more positive system of pure in-game acquisition.
Continuing a terrible trend doesn't make it less terrible. It rather removes the hope of things actually becoming more pleasant.
And these items may as well be cash shop items, honestly. :-\
But you don't buy those items. You get them just as a bonus from something else.
You forgot Legacy Chocobo (90 paid days during 1.0), Dalamud minion (1.0 soundtrack) and Bahamut minion (ARR soundtrack).
And if the day come that someone would get a legacy chocobo from retainer, the forum would crash.
I don't believe, and myself as well, that their point was there are no existing pay to obtain items. Just that the more that exist the more it will push players with this like mind away, as they dislike cash shops (or pay to obtain beyond monthly and expansions).
Shocked is inaccurate, more like leery or disappointed.
one thing that makes me laugh hard a subreddit was made so people who want to play or want to make a second account can get codes and people are just begging for people to just buy the game for them this friend recruitment is kinda funny to bring more people to play and yet most peoples friends are on this game after a year or people just bugging strangers begging for crumbs of money :D
all in all tho the chocobo is cool and i would love it but i can wait for the marriage system :P
It's cute, and I wouldn't mind having it but I wish they would let people tell them they got referred as well. I got my friend to play this game, she bough the PS3 version after I got her a beta code to try it out. She loved it, signed up and has been playing ever since. But her and I won't get any of this because of the way it's set up.
Shame.
Sooo...stupid question, but you don't actually get the mount before the friend you invite actually subscribes right? as in his visa get's charged, right now he's on the initial 30 days, but set to sub for 90 after that.
I have a question, then.
According to the website, we go to the Mog Station and we give them our friend's e-mail address or something with their recruitment code, which they enter after logging on with their SE account to the mog station?
Sooo, what if they already have a SE account and an active subscription? Seems to me like they'd still be able to enter the code. Would it still work? Probably not, I'm guessing. But hey, what if your friend was still a new adventurer who started playing before this stuff went into production?
Most likely this is the case. It's how the veteran rewards work.
Time to twiddle my thumbs for 30 days then! :p
Not sure... it does say:
But I'm not sure if it can be a friend who already HAS an account and can add the code or if it has to be a new account with no characters on it. Like a fresh account. I'm guessing it is a brand new account of someone who has never played before, but I could be wrong. Would be nice if they could clarify this, seeing it would be nice for my friend and I to get this stuff, but she's been playing almost a year now so I doubt SE will count it.Quote:
When your friend receives your message with the enclosed recruitment code, have them create a Square Enix account if they have yet to do so, then register the recruitment code via the Mog Station.
Eekiki already said this, but yeah on the page it says you will get it once your friend has paid the 90 days, but the 30 free day's don't count. So once the 30 days is up and he is charged for his 90 days, you'll receive it. If he was only paying 1 month at a time, you'd have to wait until he was charged for his 3rd month to receive it.
