The changes are incomplete for lower level players.
They removed "easy mode," which may or may not be good, depending on individual taste. However, they did not make finding parties any easier. So if you are not in a populated hub, you have less to do than before, now that behests can only be done once an hour again and offer average rewards for the opportunity cost of doing them.
So while the removal of fatigue and surplus was a huge plus for me, because I only wanted to level a couple of classes, I can't really take advantage of it without something like a static party to catch up.
And from what I've seen thus far, even during prime time, there are less people at lower level camps than before 1.18.
I don't see how arc nerf was so bad. You can still do burst damage pretty good.
ya im still fine with my arc seemed the same to me. my mages though oh boy gotta focus on curing now or else wipeage
Yeah mages got beaten pretty bad.
I am new back to the game. only played a few days at release so I am essentially completely new. Started a new character on a new server since I only had a few levels and dont know anyone in game yet. News of the changes coming in 1.18 brought me back 3 days ago, but 2 hours of the actual patch and I am done. I can no longer do a rank 10 leve quests on solo difficulty by myself without dying... as a healer!! I run out of mana before I can get a grouping of 3 mobs down let alone the 9 I will need to complete the leve. And no more mana restored at the Aetheryte so I just have to wait it out after dying. I am sure it is because I suck and should gtfo and l2pNoob. But then most people just starting the game suck. I like playing healers. Oh well. Maybe it is just my own skewed impression but the leves don't seem designed for solo play any more. There doesn't seem to be anything for solo play now and since I still havent found a LS I am pretty much screwed. I like games that encourage grouping but games that make grouping mandatory lost their appeal with EQ pre-kunark 12 years ago. Guess I will wait to see how 1.19 turns out.
Apparently only melee players like the mage adjustments. They seem to have something AGAINST mages, like we're supposed to be their peons that just serve them and make THEIR fun possible, without having any fun ourselves. I like the Grand Companies, but I am seriously hating EVERYTHING else they've done with this patch. I need to get a melee class to cap asap because CON/THM are freaking GARBAGE now.
I'm not a mage and I still don't get why they removed AoE from cure spells AND increased MP cost to same spells. Should have just picked one ><.
I'm really surprised people are hating on 1.18... I actually have the desire to log in again!! long live xiv!
My first post, hi everyone. Big fan of Final Fantasy here. Call me whatever you want to. I basically quit playing after reaching 45. For many reasons this patch has renewed my interest (unfortunately i just got married{jk honey}) in the game and was up all night playing.
Anyways I just wanted to say that I got my Seer's Cowl today! Hurray for me! What I really wanted to say though is that I soloed it as a 45 CON just like all the times it didn't drop. Granted I did die, come back and continue the fight it wasn't like it was impossible (perhaps in the future maybe...who knows). I also didnt keep a close eye on my MP regaining abilities. I had recently returned from break so sleeping and disengage to regain mp didnt even occur to me.
The point is, while it might be a little harder you can still solo...well at least the Prince of Pestilence as a 45 CON you can :D
next patch
THM gets refresh. everyones happy :)
I will say my opinion on things. If you call it whining and tell people to gtfo something is wrong. And if community likes that too - gtfo others with your opinions that re not same like ours. Well, I always thought forums are places to discuss not for insults.
There is a vast difference between being a petulant whining crybaby and actually carrying on an intelligent and civil conversation about changes. The problem is there is a small subset of the community that lacks vision, fails to see the bigger picture and either does not read dev posts or fails to comprehend them. More often than not its that subset that also acts very immaturely and consistently complains about issues that SE themselves have directly acknowledged.
This your first MMO?
This is my experience as healer everywhere I go. Melee think we exist to keep them alive and god-forbid we want to actually participate in the battle directly or have fun. I just keep rolling my eyes as everyone who says "cry moar mages!" is a 48 PGL or a 28 MRD. Every now and then a CON pops up saying they welcome the challenge and I respect that, I guess, but I'm thinking they haven't tried to do Great Buffalo lately.
Hope you like standing idly on the sideline while you tag-team spam cure (the exact thing these guys think was taken away) instead of all the things you used to be able to do.
Not sure if I want to log in. I liked playing thm. figures...
I agree, the changes make me feel like I have a role and almost a job in the parties now. I not only like the changes, but I love them, the MP increase, as well as potency (damage/output) increase makes perfect since.
I also play THM and find that I am able to still auto attack and solo mobs pretty effectively.
For the first time in parties, and in game things seem to be moving forward. More adjustments are on their way, but this was not only a needed adjustment it was critical. I think SE nailed it, and I for one can't wait to see what else they have in store for us down the line. I just hope it doesn't take as long as 1.18 took, so here is hoping for 1.19 in August. :)
I actually saw a ton of people running around Gridania and the Black Shroud today, and there were actually people at Camp Drybone, too, when I went there, and people grinding at the new beast camps as well.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS.
EDIT: And Ul'dah had a shitload of people in it, too. I have yet to check the wards for each city though :P I mostly just grinded today.
I'm not coming to this thread to say anything bad about 1.18. In fact i believe it is a huge step forward for ffxiv. I did come to this thread to give my opinion and that is the title of this thread is completely ignorant. Players have the right to debate here and you can tell them to gtfo all day long but they aren't going to. I'm sick of reading all this name calling here. Plenty of people are bringing up valid arguments and points. Stop trying to combat them by calling them complainers.
Let me pose you a question. If SE says they are going to fix something, is it worth complaining about? Or should complaints be made about issues that SE has yet to acknowledge? A majority of complaints are about issues that SE has very plainly communicated would be resolved. I would call that whining or being impatient. The fact is, there is a portion of the community who feels completely entitled that SE must always fix issues their way all the time. Those people just continually whine and complain to no end despite what SE says or does. Its quite annoying. For some reason the same people continually state that they hate the game, rage quit, etc , yet they still stick around to fill the forum with their worthless blather.
Ok, so XIV now finally have a mage class strictly for healing (White mage). They need to take away CON's nuke abilities and get rid of those masochistic ancient spells (it's just painful to cast them). Make it purely a WHITE MAGE job.
We still need a Black Mage job with capable spells!
The fact is.... Those people you talk about in your last sentence wouldn't exist if you ignored them. so let them come here and rage quit. Don't fuel the fire and reply to it. Ignore that shite and move on. But by golly if i don't see you arses flaming every good suggestion.
Well don't forget that Archanist is coming eventually. I can't see them launching the jobs system when there are unreleased classes! I think what will happen is we'll have three DoM classes, a hybrid healer, a hybrid nuker and a hybrid debuffer. SE did state that they are planning on re-organizing most abilities as part of reinforcing class uniqueness. So that could be likely. Then again CON could be the hybrid healer type class and still have elemental spells.
Jobs are post 1.20 according to some quote I saw somewhere.
Geez people are so angry and dramatic these days.
I think everybody should like, chill out a bit.
You know your attitude determining your latitude and all that
FFXIV bringing out a game update once or twice every month.
Some games take longer.
Think SE will release a BLACKMAGE Class but will be totally diffrent then what were used to seeing in FF games.
Something like a SCH/Elementalist,Geomanner,Bluemage... Plus ever thought some Abilitys/Spells are better for other classes they arent gained on. That depends on how they change some abilitys/spells affinity's.
Lets say they add a blackmage class.
Fire,Water,Thunder etc work better on the new blackmage class rather then on the CON.
Con can still dishout attacks but no as effective.
I'm pretty sure Yoshida said somewhere or another that they have no intention of implementing classes yet - that all their creative energy was going into Jobs. Now, obviously, Unangrier is an Archanist and there are plenty hanging around in Limsa Lominsa but "coming eventually" doesn't make THM suck less today. Nothing "coming eventually" has any real relevance on how little I want to play CON or THM today, does it? It just further alienates me from playing a game that I actually liked playing before this.
"I'm pretty sure" isn't really definitive proof is it.
I'm still pretty sure, but I think it was in a magazine interview and I'm never going to go find the quote for you on this one so you don't have to take my incredibly uncertain recollection of something I read weeks ago if you don't want to.
Saying they'll probably add Archanist to alleviate Conjurer bullshit is no less ridiculous in the speculation department, though. Can we agree on that?
To the original poster/original post: Hell Yeah brotha! I can't believe some of the complaints I've been reading on here. They told us the battle system was going through a COMPLETE re-haul. And they delivered exactly what they said they would. Keep going strong SE, bring us more challenges, more quests, and more content. I'm here for the long haul!
Thanks Yoshi. Mages finally feel balanced instead of all out solo machines, combat enmity is much better and the dungeon difficulty is a home run. Looking forward to 1.19.
I like to eat cat food
I don't love this update, but I don't hate it either. They way they nerfed SP I am not happy. I love the new areas, and I always played THM as BLM not WHM. CON was built to be a main healer and THM was meant for dot, nuking, and back up healing. I knew that from the get go! I am getting tired of hearing all the complaining, you adjust and get used to it. SE I am sure may still adjust some of the things introduced, to try and please everyone. This game is just beginning, why not sit back and enjoy watching it grow!?
