Havent got a chance to read the thread. But according to the patch notes, no weapon damage increase?
No idea if this is a stupid question as I haven't read a ton of material on the Novus stuff yet.. So it's impossible to get Novus without melding Materia to a scroll. For instance Curtana. Which by default has STR/VIT/Parry/ACC - If I want to keep those same stats, I have to Meld Parry and ACC to it? Since I believe those are the secondary stats? Sounds silly..
Or if I want I could change those stats into something else?
Not even the high allegan pieces add up to 75 secondaries?
Cool, thanks for the info. I forgot to check DB. Was just going by the patch notes gae bolg example.
Back to class for 3 hours ;_;
oall the people wondering why this was delayed. It was Stated from the Devs, alot of people were not complete Animus so essentially, they delayed out of nicety. They already knew what this was going to be and had it ready. Basically, Yoshi didn't have his Animus yet so we all got a little more time before the next step.
On another note this totally looks like if the alexandrite is just a catalyst and we need normal Materia not special Materia, shit is like Gil spammers dream come true! GOOD LUCK economies!
On Ragnarok you can see materia lv4 being sold for one mil. This has the potential to end up being worst than atma.
Like I said before, I honestly think it boils down the stats you pick to add (the combination). How it usually works is, for example, High Allagan spear has 64 combined total of secondary stats. This is due to the fact the primary stats have increased. As the primary stats increase, the combined amount of the secondary stats decreases.
Which is why I would be shocked if you can have 75 combined with det/crit. It doesn't make sense, not in this phase of the saga.
For anyone wondering what the limit per stat will be.

Looks like 22 is the cap for Det.
44 for everything else.
So, how do I get the Alexandrite things ? And do we need one for each materia we use ?
And the relic upgrade quest just gone from ok to terrible. But seriously this is the best they can think off, 1.5k myth to get something and then either spend all your gils to buy materia or spiritbond grind to get your materia. If this is how the relic upgrade is going to be in the future, I would rather they just delay it a few more patches and get a proper quest line for it.
Price increase is almost always like that for an needed Item and will drop steady over weeks. If people think they are forced to buy it on the first day, then yea.. good gil sink right there. If people will wait with buying, the price will drop. People dictate the price, not the system.
It looks like FFXI relic quest to me ... so long, expensive and boring that most people won't even bother.
But in FFXIV, people do bother and then they do moan and complain and whine and maybe riot ?
Update: i tried to meld materia to see what kinds of errors I got on curtana and holy shield.
The first meld on each (possibly more) HAS to be grade I.
This may take awhile, heh.
Also, mysterious maps can be earned once a day at a repeatable quest npc in mor dhona (requires first unlocking sphere scrolls and talking to new npc by Gerolt). Only requirement to satisfy daily is to complete the roulette the nnpc asks for. It was expert roulette for me, I'll see whether it changes after this morning's reset, or not.
So basically a risk/reward thing?
Use higher tier materia and you might get done faster, but the melding success rate is lower.
I'll have to see properly how this thing works I guess.
It mention how many were needed by any chance?
It makes sense.

I dont mind the grind, but materia? really? Supply of those was already limited since unless you go spiritbonding, endgame doesnt provide any of those. Main stat materia remain mostly useless except you can sacrifice 5 of them and maybe you get a useful one...
It seems this will be even more rng based than getting the atmas...
You start at I materia and as far as I can see at the moment it will require multiple I materia before you unlock the "II" materia meld. And so forth to IV. What I don't know yet is whether or not you'll still be able to meld the I materia once the II is unlocked. The help text says that increasingly powerful materia will be needed as infusions progress. This makes it seem like in order to hit a cap for a particular cap you'll need IV's.
Alexandrite can be obtained from treasure maps. They cost 800 myth or a daily Expert Roulette quest. Might be weekly? It can also be obtained as a low drop from FATEs. One Alexandrite is needed for each meld.
Novus requires an initial 1500 myth buy in. You have to buy 3 superior something inks to turn in for the sphere (or spheres) that correspond to your weapon.
You know what would be really funny? If it would only work with tier I and all those people who did empty the wards allready and bought tier IV for 5 Mil+ total, will now sit on them like this:

Alright I can get get my Scholar relic now and put 44 critical hit and maybe 44 piety for Adloquim spam.
Oh boy, delicious RNG melding here we come!
Simple break down of the quest.
1. Get 3 inks for 500 myth each.
2. Hand in inks to get sphere scroll.
3. Infusing sphere scroll requires Alexandrite and grades 1-4 materia of the stats in question. First infusion needs to be grade 1. Total stats for each sphere scroll is 75 and the max you can get on one single stats seems to be 44 leaving you 31 left of the other stat. First infusion with a grade 1 was 100% giving you one point. This possiblly means you need 75 Alexandrite to finsh the quest unless when you can infuse grade 2-4 materia it gives more then 1 point each.
This means it might take a while and a lot of materia to finish this quest.
Getting Alexandrite -
1. Daily quest for a mysterious map gives one each day. Requires you to do the Expert Roulette(can do as a group).
2. 800 myth for more maps fro Rowena.
3. Fate grind(prob has the same drop rate as an Atma since they share the same pop-up when you get one)
but isn't piety consider a main stats? so maybe can't do piety?
Curtana stat cap is 53, Holy Shield is 22.
The servers went down for maintenance before I could open my first map coffer, was it tougher than peiste maps? Similar? Or was any combat involved at all?
