Yes, but a Light Party with two players and two chocobos does not give you a Limit Break meter.
Well since I don't like the current Dragoon design I'm gonna switch it back to Lancer and use a flying minion to accompany me throughout solo content until Dragoons get wyvern/drake/dragon pet or lancer's second job revolves around it.
My CCS will focus more on thaumaturge and conjurer.
Fun things are fun and I prefer fun over "muh damage".
That's just it.... "fun" is subjective. I have "fun" with how dragoons are currently designed. I can respect that others had "fun" with how XI dragoons were designed. I personally do not want a wyvern added to the dragoon, however, there's always a possibility such an option could be the lancer's second job (or an advanced job if the storyline/time pass long enough).
Considering a Dragoon and Coearthas individual's entire purpose in life is killing wyverns...why do people expect this to be a thing?
Yeah but it still defeats the purpose oh the history of the Dragoon's in this game and others.
Since I am reading the only time they had a pet, was in FFXI. Don't think Kain Highwind had a pet lol.
We already have 2 pet classes lol.
We need a Beastmaster class if people want all that. I still think if you all want a dragon or something, they should make it a
Limit Break...I bet we're just going to get some stupid minion.
But it's not like Wyverns are like Chocobos in FF12 or anything. They aren't just wild creatures you can battle on the field who can also happen to be tamed.
They, like, intentionally cooperate to murder Coearthas citizens.
I understand were everyone is coming from and you all brought up some good points^^ I cannot see an instance were dragoons control a wyvern per-se, mostly due to the sacrifice in dmg (This was no fun in XI, lol). However, I believe there were friendly dragons in past FF titles (Was it II?). They could make a branching job that uses these dragons as companions; aka the "Using the enemies best weapon against them"
In Skyrim; (different game, I know), dragons were a feared enemy whom would attack settlements; however, a couple were companions; paarthurnax, odahvling (Whom was tight with the main antagonist, who is a dragon), and the undead dragon. Not saying that dragons could be companions, but not saying they cannot neither. My opinions pertaining to this are up in the air "Shrugs"
Edit: Dragon vs Dragon made for some epic sky battles in Skyrim^^
quite a lot of people disagree with your belief that DRG was inferior because of the wyvern. I'm not going to argue with you on the point of it but should they decide to add the Wyvern I'll hope they add another job for it rather than mess with the existing DRG. they could call it "Wyvern Knight" or perhaps "Wyvern Master" but if they have the Wyvern I really hope they dont make it a tank class. and they leave the Wyvern a Companion like XI DRG rather than a pet.
I think if they did a new job like that they should make the Ishgard the ones that give it to you just to add a cool twist to the story ^^
You are an adventurer, yes, but it is irrelevant to the class of Dragoon. A wyvern is a ludicrous idea in ffxiv (thank god) and I hate my self for continuing to post in the thread entertaining the notion. I'm like many others where we are happy the way the class is now without pet management
Honestly, I dont want them to just tack on wyvern to drg class.
Instead I truly love to see Lancer second Job to be a pure pet class. I love the idea of it being one of the new Hybrid Jobs (DPS/heals). I love to see something akin to the awesome 6 DRG PTs in FF11. One of the most thrilling things I ever experienced. Wyvern heals are so cool :3
FFII from what I recall Haan, I believe, formed a bond between Wyverns throughout a 30 year period. He was the first of many to do so. Richard Highwind the last remaining "active" Dragoon was inside Leviathan. Richards adoptive son though decided to take the role of becoming a Dragoon. Though I don't recall what happen to the Wyvern egg. Also they didn't have their signature jump ability then and their most precious weapon was a sword.
Yet in the case of "Kain Highwind" since people like to bring him up. "Early in history, the Dragoon Corps were a powerful elite force, wielding lances and riding dragons in combat". So they either had them as pets or befriended them. "With time, the Dragoons also trained their bodies to jump high as the dragons they once rode as a tribute to their ancestral history.". This was part of Kain's history and people neglect it. So if we were to take FFIV The After Years into consideration, Dragoons should evolve into the support role like Bards and focus on healing since Kain becomes a Holy Dragoon that uses white magic. This should be fine once the level cap increases, right?
While it may not be the case in FFXIV's Dragoon storyline. I'm just saying for the future and for the sake of diversity that people take it into consideration. Jump and Lancet are kind of already used up. Pets or befriending a dragon/wyvern is a subject that can still be touched or we can do without them and just get various types of Breath abilities to either deal elemental damage or heal our allies. Since adventurer's aren't tied to Ceoarthas law and grudge.
I will say this guys; you do not want, I repeat, you do not want SE giving you a controllable pet, lol. Despite being well-geared, those pet jobs in XI gave me headaches. Drg, bst, and pup always felt weaker than non-pet dds (Granted I did not lvl every pet job). That sacrifice in damage is real ya'll, lol^^ Pet surviablity also sucked.
For the record, I am all for pet jobs, however, I want non-controllable pets, akin to summons. Bst is my favorite final fantasy job of all-time, however, I would prefer a summon pet whom performs a special attack then leaves. I have read this book before, and it does not end well :(
Edit: I am not a drg, but I do not want to see you guys suffer the same fate as the pet jobs of XI, so sad.
As long as it works for the lore in this game, I'd be happy to see more variety available to Dragoons, and other jobs as well of course, as lore and (as you said) levels are added, but given the current (somewhat barren) state of FFXIV's Dragoon lore and its current fit in FFXIV gameplay, it will probably only be possible when job niche-ing has been radically changed / broadened.
I'm all for depth and diversity, but as it stands the world itself doesn't have much to support that at the job level, and our Dragoons are just some rare, disconnected elites among a once-great winter-shat region.
(God I wish we had zones / cultures / lore that fit each of the soldiery set designs...)
Well for one this game isn't FFXI and second I have faith on the FFXIV team that if they were to introduce a wyvern pet that it will be balanced well enough. Since Summoner, Scholars, and our Chocobos are all reliable.
While people had issue with FFXI's Dragoon I did not and I had a lot of fun with Dragoon for the first time in a long time, FFTA being the last time I had fun with Dragoon before FFXI.
Yeah that's all I'm saying. I don't like the current Dragoon design but I'm not saying the current design needs a revamp. Just saying that it should be taken into consideration now before whatever they implement ends up keeping it stale.
They should bring back the drg's wyvern and make in controllable to add more flavor to the game and it would be more fun to play.
They could ass a second job to lancer that have a pet then they be two jobs. I talked about this in other topic and everyone shut me down on the idea. Even tho you keep your dragoon job how it should be but also add a new job with a pet now both type of fans are happy.I see them doing this seeing how every class going to have more then one job.
Many are unhappy with smn's design; perhaps the dragoon/wyvern master will not be what drg lovers originally wanted; but nonetheless, decently effective, but rather generic. Imagine a small, dragon-ish, minion-ish blob whom face is invisible; and the player just stands back and throw javelins or something; granted it functions properly, it is quite generic and perhaps not what we had in mind. Lets be honest, we all may have an image/expectation pertaining to specific class we would like to see implemented. Based upon their past level of creativity (Smn/Acn); I have little faith in them to deliver a unique and appealing job. This team appears extremely lazy when it comes to XIV, and have more excuses than a man going to jail. XI=Ps2 limitations; XIV=Ps3 limitations; same company; I am starting to see a pattern...
All they need to do with wyverns is just do what they do with chocbo's and give it a form of "stance".
Melee+Caster: Tries to deal the most damage that it can. High risk high reward.
Caster+Healer: Safe range DPS and it offheals the group. Mid risk mid reward.
Healer: Safely heals on the side and avoids enmity gain. low risk low reward.
I'm unhappy with the SMN design because the Summon's are egi's not actual entities that represent the primals. I don't see Ifrit, Titan, nor Garuda in those egi's and prefer arcanists Carbuncle. I wouldn't mind a compromise like the one the person made a thread about where they showed scaled down Primals. I have no problem with Scholar's fairies in fact I think their visual appeal is there.
^^A scaled down summon would have made more sense; I have no idea why they chose those....idk what they are. I have no faith in this team pertaining to anymore complicated pet jobs (Design wise than is). Will bst pets be a small serpent blob?
I agree with all of your post; I just don't trust the ppl whom are responsible for its' design, that is all, lol^^ But yea, they did smns dirty with that design. Smh.
