Full voice and a billion quests probably aren't necessary, but some degree of novelty and innovation is.
So far the only unique thing is "not having swimming" or "not having ground based AoE".
What about to not bump 2011 topics? It's so difficult to understand?
How cute, Gifthorse is necroing his own threads.
Oh yeah. I remember this guy.
He had such odd demands for the game.
Final Fantasy XIV Forums.
Where one person think he/she can talk for a whole community.
Why does everything have to be so mechanical? If everyone tries to copy the 'standard' (Just like RIFT/SWTOR did with WoW) where will the unique games be?
I'm all for someone making a unique game that has different ideas while making sure the game is still accessible and playable for everyone.
Not going to lie, but the whole lack of auto-attack only happened because of how it was implemented and the other problems stacked on top.
Bobby. F'ing. Gunz.
I wouldn't call wow the standard, wow has many flaws, but is easily accepted by casual non-long term MMo players prior to wow. FFXI came out before wow as well. Wow used standards of other mmo's and merged them.
I rather FFXIV ebe FF not liek a typical, cloned games. FF online has been about the story, challenge, community, and set it own path. It needs to remain that way.
epic story line coming with 2.0 was already confirmed
Quote:
There will be three major storylines included in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The first is a large, overarching story, one not alike what you find in World of Warcraft.
why would anyone, necro a Gifthorse thread?..... seriously...... why...... must we have more grief to what is currently going on by necroing a griefer's thread?
discuss what? A 1.0 thread? this was griefs about 1.0 and what Yoshi was doing for 1.0 nothing to do with 2.0
I like how he talks about SWTOR, since now we know how that worked out.
yeah, let's use SWTOR as a metric for success when they spent most of their 200 million dollar budget on voice acting, only to have the game fall flat on its face.
lol
I'd slap you bobbygunz, but that emote isn't in the game.
The fundamental of gaming are in every game in some shape or form to auto attack or button bashing to grinding on monster for exp or questing experience or mixture of the two its all matter on how the game designer implements it! Can any of you can come up with a different way of gaming that doesn't include the stuff mention to revolutionized gaming please feel free to come up with an idea that doesn't involve those. Certain feature (OR STANDARDS) will always play a key role in any game those features are copied in some form to every game that you've ever played so you can't really get away from it. The difference is what that particular game bring to the gamer is the unique enrich story plots of the title, unique character designs, the land which you walk on shoot maybe even float over ect!
bobbygunz = gifthorse....guess that makes sense.
lol these kind of topics makes me laugh.
I swear this thread is just the fukin pits because the same people who talking down on the game will be the main ones kissing ass when it comes out... Let Yoshi-P do his damn job and save the game. Its bad enough he doing everything he can without people telling him he's going to fail IMO he did a pretty damn good job so far.
i wont say EVERYTHING needs voice acting, but when the game was announced, voice acting was was being promoted as a selling point, and at the time, only the 3 starter city intro's had it, since then, maybe 3 more. but imo these were the most epic scenes, and i was a little miffed the last GC cutscene wasnt voiced. important/deep/epic cutscenes absolutely need voicing, was the only thing ffxi was missing story-wise
that being said.. ffxiv has taken many steps in the right direction, and its funding has been put in better places during 2.0 dev.
Meh, I'll just chime in two things:
1 - Full voiced is an extremely controversial feature. It draws disproportionate amounts of funding that could be spent on more meaningful development at greater value, whilst simultaneously reducing the flexibility of the systems its built into by raising the cost of variation: all possible variations must be voiced. Not to mention arguments about imagination and all.
2 - Nice of the resident troll to mention Mabinogi but.. what's cutesy got to do with it? Mabinogi was years ahead of its time and just because it opted to use a particular art style (which, by the by, was for the time of its original release actually fairly high end) doesn't make a jot of difference. A far better point would be that Mabinogi is a very old MMO, and yet from day one had features like composable and performable music, a working restriction-less gear system, an active combat system, a well-balanced classless progression setup, and a compelling storyline to boot. Though goodness knows I think if Final Fantasy XIV pinched half the stuff Mabinogi did right for itself it'd be a damn sight better already.
As crappy as Tera is, it did blow every other MMO out of the water with its battle system. This targeting system has officially made tab targeting a relic of the past. If the devs for Tera actually put a little substance in their plot and used a bit of originality in any other aspect of their game besides the fighting system, it probably would have been a WoW killer.
Hello,
Thank you all for your posts. Unfortunately it seems this thread has run its course, so we are locking it. While we encourage using existing threads to discuss topics relevant to FFXIV, some topics which have become too old or are no longer relevant may be better left where they are, rather than bringing an old thread back to life.
