Thank you for the compliment, Jobeto. It was one way I could think that would increase player-immersion, as well as making teleporting more "valuable" rather than something that can be regularly used. It could also make for useful lore, the anima screwing up somehow and manifesting instead as stones and crystals which have gotten rarer. Not sure if that would work since anima is kind of linked to the soul of people, but SE can expand on the idea perhaps. :D
I'm one of those people you mentioned who "probably still would like the current system but I'm curious", but that's if there was no other modes of transport. With more means of getting around, I'm all for a redo of the teleporting system.
I like that this thread is doing well, I expected some disagreement going away from a simple form of transportation, but most of you are thinking like me :D
I brought this topic up during beta, and the first thing I said as I was doing CoP in XI with my LS was something like, "You know FFXIV will let you teleport where and when ever you want at any rank and class?... I think that's stupid they should just make teleportation available at aetheryte camps and cities, it's like I was born with magical fairy disappearing powers." then someone brought up that jumper movie too, lol.
But seriously, I'm sure the local team is reading this thread already. It's a matter of them sending Yoshi the translation and post and waiting for an answer.
Bump! This needs to be done!
Do it SE!
Set!

I agree about the jumper thing, the second a new friend logs in, he can just jump on my teleports to all the camps free of charge and never have to worry about adventuring out to get them himself. Where is the adventure/fun in that? =/
I just started the game a bit ago but I'm not quite sure why everyone seems to want to tell other people how to play? I mean, if you don't want to teleport, can't you just not teleport? If you want to walk and view the scenery, can't you do that now? Why does the option to teleport have to be taken away for everyone when you can simply go do exactly what you want right now? I don't mean this to offend anyone, and I'm sorry if it comes off that way. It just doesn't seem very nice to try and force other people to play the game the way that *you* desire to play it.
Nothing about forcing a certain way of playing on players, but it could wind up a gimp and possibly broken method of obtaining new camps/ areas. For example, an area that was meant to be difficult to obtain could be jumped to which would lead to the over abuse of the system. The jump tele feature isn't the problem, it's the non limited option players have when back-packing on other players warps.
Honestly I felt the game was broken when within the 1st hour of XIV somebody teleported me to aerythes I had never been to before. Way to take away the feeling of discovery guys.
Honestly it boggles my mind how a design decision like this gets past sensible people working on the project.
What they COULD do, and I don't normally like to use the ideas from other MMO's because I'd like SE to do their own thing, BUT -
Guild Wars 2 is going to have a Fast Travel system as well, which is actually free to do. However, they're going to give incentive to players to run there because you get some sort of bonus for exploring and walking/running to where you want to go (Not sure of the bonuses yet). Now, I'm sure you have to have been there first, but it gives people the choice, as well as the incentive to do some adventuring.
While I hope FFXIV stops using the Anima system, IF they keep it I'd like to see some incentive given to adventurers to travel there instead of teleport.
without a doubt they need to make it so you have to personally reach the crystal first befor you can teleport there. it ruins the games adventuring. other then that fak off they need to make porting after the first time easier not harder. they need get rid of anima all together, why sit on a fricken boat afk for 10mins waiting rather then instant, i don't want to fish or kill useless mobs on it. i go and make coffee or watch tv. whats the point. add boats to get places first time cross overs, fill them with hoards of mobs so it's more for sp or items/gear if anything.
you dudes are looking for something less then a game, it's called aol chat rooms, go try them out this is a mmo that needs game content not time waisted running around. /em takes your diaper and plops it on your head.
Dear SE,
Do nothing at this point until you implement a better set of transportation options other than the only one currently available to us (ie. teleporting). Anything you do to adjust the teleport system prior to implementing real alternatives would be idiotic. It's as good as it needs to be for what it is at this point, short of arguments about +/- anima recharge rates or maximum amounts at any given time.
Any adjustment other than giving people more anima or a faster anima recharge would make the system worse.
edit: never mind, you put it in the game, live with it. Don't touch it, it isn't broken.
Thanks,
On the contrary we are looking for more to do in the game, more ways to be immersed in it.
I think you just described yourself...
What?! Please dude. Yes it is. If SE had made it this way, we would be complaining about there is nothing to do WHILE we are traveling to an Aetheryte.
Then this topic would be ...
"Give us something to do while running to an Aetheryte"
More immersion, different content and less complaining.
em immersion? i think housewives from the 60's ran away from the void of staring out a window while doing dishes. wtf would anyone want to brainlessly run to every node all day after doing it a million times without going insane. there is no fun in running, your delusional. any of you who want something to do so you run? must be mental i'm sorry, are you all 50 on every class yet? u'r just waisting your life.
content, more and more content, lmao running to carmps being immersive fun content. you make my brain hurt. beside they trying to call this game solo and casual, i don't see anything that makes u run 10-20minutes every hour being that.
and lol, sorry for ranting...i'm bored in game with nothing to do but rather then run around i'm forum posting and taking it out on tarts. lol
my abc's have nothing to do with how to get from a to b, specially since there is nothing special between a and b. u'r trying to pick my words apart to make u feel smart, just take it as it is, running around is dumb, instant travel or something close to that is good. the end. ty.
No sir, I'm picking the points your trying to make.
Not your words
Edit:
Your were making points on running and it's boring consequences.
I'm making points about why teleporting should be only at aetherytes.
The point of this thread isn't the running. It's the effect this unrestricted teleportation has on our game.
most people don't use the 1 anima to use it ...cause if 1 person don't use it, u already waiting for him anyway, it usually used if you behind for whatever reason and catching up to the group. if u add choco's for the ride inbetween them would be cool but instant is always better. specially for places where your only doing dinky things like leves that start at a location and you not really running around trying to avoid mobs or kill them to a specific location.
I played ffxi and experienced the waiting that was involved, so teleportation is warranted in that sense.
But from anywhere in the game? In order to truly understand the problem, you have to read mine and others opinion of the matter. For me, it's cons are hard to summarize appropriately. Feels cheap, deteriorates sense of world scale, challenge level... etc....
And if your going to mention running, in-game right now, how far are you actually from an Aetheryte?
There are so many I just don't see the issue/complaining about running to 1.
Someone please explain that bit to me.
Awhile ago I brought this same situation up on the ZAM forums. I just made a blog about my idea of aetheryte as a network of branches and hubs and the more branches and hubs you pass the more anima it should cost.
Also if so many people are against the idea of having to run to an aetheryte crystal they could just implement teleports from anywhere, but cheaper teleports from a crystal.
The biggest issue I have with the system is how inconsistent it is in the canon of world itself. If you go back and read the aetheryte section on the ffxiv website they talk about how it was such a big factor in the expansion of the nations... yet all of the outlying towns are completely devoid of aetheryte.
I'd like to see the actual crystalized aetheryte in towns and a select few areas only... the camps should all be nodes that branch out from the crystals at the towns and then the towns should be branches from the hubs of the main cities.
Towns should get unique leves and quests, their own chocobo stalls, their own retainer bells, some actual shops, and maybe guild access for people who have earned it.
So if someone wants to travel from a hub to a hub, or a hub to one of it's branches it costs 2 anima. from a hub to a node off of one of it's branches 3 anima... from a node to a node on a completely different hub 4-6 anima... from the middle of nowhere to a node on a different hub, maybe 9 or 10 anima.
This would ween people off the dependency of anima, promote the use of the newer modes of transportation, and then also create more depth in the world by giving valid reasons to be in the outlying towns like Aleport and Golden Bazaar.
People can still travel from the middle of nowhere, halfway across the world... but if they do it to much they could be stuck hoofing it.
Whereas the people who don't mind a short walk here and there could never run out of anima.
So, players who have limited game time to play should be restricted to using the majority of their limited gametime for traveling instead of actually playing the game because other players choose to play the game a way they don't want to even though they currently have the option to play the game the way they want to?
Let me ask you something. Why don't you restrict yourself to teleporting only at Aetherytes and increase your own enjoyment and leave it at that? Why do you insist on wasting thousands of other people's time so you can have a small increase to your own level of enjoyment?
i posted this on a diff teleport thread but...is the same answer:)
the average human being spends a time of 75DAYS on the toilet taking a dump in his life time...... i don't want to spend double that running around in this game when i don't need to be. Content is king ...ty.
Two thread for Anima Restriction, waiting for that Dev To Answer :P.. anytime now :D
It's not just about me bro, this cheap system messes up the game and i'm trying to give my 2cents about it. read my last post.
Edit: I want to be able to enjoy this game with a crapload other people. The less thrilling this game is the less people there will be, meaning a smaller chance of me being able to do just that.
I wasn't disagreeing with you, just pointing something out. People complain that they don't like Guild Leves because they're repetitive and boring, some people even asking for them to be removed but they still do them.
People complain about spending all of their time in Thanalan repeating the same leves, but still they won't venture out to Gridania or Limsa Lominsa for a change of scenery.
It comes down to people only wanting to do what is the most efficient way of levelling, whether they enjoy it or not. Then they want the game to be adapted so that the most efficient way of levelling is exactly how they want it to be even if that means placing more restrictions on other players or removing content enjoyed by others.
Players choosing to do something they do not enjoy in the game when they already have an alternative option they WOULD enjoy but choose to NOT use the alternative option is not a valid reason to make sure the majority of my limited game time is used for traveling instead of playing the game.
