If FFXIV were to have a new race added, it's obvious it's going to have to be humanoid that we can customize hair and beards. Problem is to make it somewhat unique and adding a feature to a human model is too boring. How about changing a facial feature, but keeping its human facial shape so beards and hair can still be used. For example these insect human hybrids from an old toy line I use to play with as a kid called Sectaurs. They are humanesque with bug eyes and antennas.

They are somewhat unique when it comes to human hybrids because it changed a feature instead of just adding a feature.
If bugs aren't your thing, then how about alien greys. Just add hair and mustache abilities to be able to customize and there you go. They are kind of creepy, though.

Garleans can't be a playable race because they can't use magic.
That's why is put the "all but a few" in quotation marks :P That's from the lore book. The full sentence reads:"Garleans have little inborn ability to manipulate their body's aether, however, and thus the arcane arts have ever eluded all but a few."
They eased up on the "absolute no-go, nada, never" in the book. Apparently, "a few" can use the arcane arts. Probably not enough to sustain an army however.
For some reason I feel that dwarves would fit into the Ala Mhigo Aesthetic based on the trailer.
Perhaps give them some stupid little name like Hummingways, and give them some bunny features to quiet up the viera community.
Garleans would maybe work as a third hyur tribe but even that is unlikely with all but two pureblooded Garleans are antagonists and they only come with one skin colour and various bright shades of blonde. They would have more customization options than a toberry, but not by much.
i'm still in favor of Hummingways being playable. Or a plant race. Or an aquatic race. Or an aquatic plant race.

If they are going to go with a full beast race, I would kind of like to see Freya Crescent's race. Burmecian

Looks like they're getting a head start on that Necromancer class with this blast from the past.
Myself personal would love a Werewolf race as playable then the simple ones we off for daily hunts.
If not a hybrid race be good like Hilda from HW the Elezen/Hyur mix. Could mix a few other sure a lot of the Rpers who do the couple thing would love to have mix races
I would like to see a race called Remnants of Jenova her legacy.
Story a woman was born from Jenova project but during the destruction of the plant her memories were lost and she became a house wife.
then generations passed and her legacy kept going new race.
1. Harpie Race whose appearance is based off of primal Garuda and angels. They could originate from some unknown floating island in the sky.
2. Some sort of sea people. Kind of like the ones from Dragon Quest X, except have jewel like objects embedded across their bodies.
3. Tree and flower people! Dryads~ This race could excel in sorcery like Exdeath and introduce a type of shield producing rune knight or warlock type tank job class based off of Exdeath's fighting style in FF Dissidia.
4. Viera with two aestically different looking clans based off of the concept art made of them years ago.
5. A demon race based off of the original concept art for Auri. They could come from the Void and unlike their voidsent brethern they don't need a constant influx of aether to maintain solid form in Hyadelon.
6. Espers, like the ones from FF6.
7. Jenova race. Liked that idea from the person above. A parasitic race who takes on the many and varying unique aesthetic looks and features of other races and eventually meshes them all together to become one original race with interchangeable aesthetics!
9. A primate type race based off of FF9's Zidane and Wukong from Journey to the West. They look closely like monkeys and are short and cute, but taller than Lalafell. If any of you have played FF Dissidia, think of Zidane's limit break form as this race's basic look.
10. An aggressive and fierce looking Werewolf type race larger in sized in comparison to the Miqo'te, but smaller and less hairy than the Lupin beastmen tribe.

I honestly hope to see moombas as a beastman race. They receive so little love in FF-games, despite being amazing. ;_;

Best boy for next race!
Drew this last week but didn't have a proper reason to put it on the FFXIV forum even though it's FFXIV related, lol.
EDIT: Nvm. Thought my signature was gone...
If they were to add a playable beast tribe, why not the wolf people in Yanxia? I mean hte story is set up already for them. Some of them working for Zenos. They change sides, have a reason to be around now.
Lilties and Yukes from the FF Crystal Chronicles series.
Bangaa, Seeq, Viera, Nu Mou, Gria, and more humanoid playable moogles from FFTA series
Dwarves from multiple previous games in the FF series. Stout people with impressive beards. Yes even the women have impressive beards... >.>
Burmecian from FFIX
Guado and Ronso from the FFX series
Sentient machines - Actually a selectable race in the FF legend series back on Game Boy and also on Chronotrigger
Mystics - Chronotrigger though most kind of just looked like elves
The mushroom people in Secret of Mana.
we will never get a true beast race or any diverse race that isnt "cosplaying human" Because thats work. and yoshi p hates work.
Give us a fox man and boom...u suddenly have to model armor differently, make new and current emotes work with body structure and so on.
Au ra has a human like face..emotes are easier to tweak between races...armor is easier to tweak between races.
TLDR yoshi p is lazy so we will continue to get cosplaying human
I wouldn't say he's lazy. I would say he's playing it smart.
People like things that are attractive - the amount of players that would play a beast or furry class is much smaller than those who would play something like a Miqo'te or Au Ra. If you have multiple attractive classes, that's more money in their pockets because people are more likely to Fantasia back and forth.
Lupin. Yes I know we got a werewolf costume but I want that face and muzzle. I want to see a werewolf do the /joy expression and wiggle his ears!
I want Ivalice Moogles.
They could kind of work as a playable race? Their proportions are roughly the same as a Lalafell. They could just touch up the models from Zodiac Age, adjust the Lala armour models, add ear holes for helmets and ta-dah! New short and cute race all ready to go.

I'd actually really like the Ivalice moogle design as well. I was a bit disappointed back when FFXI was first released because I had hopes of moogle being a playable race. However they would need to make moogle noises when doing things because... I need more ways to torment certain ppl with moogle noises than using moogle weapon glamours... >.>
More than anything, I think they've written themselves into a corner with playable character designs because of the story distinction between "men" and "beastmen". Anything from Roegadyn to Lalafell to semi-monster-with-human-face Au Ra are considered "men" (and women) but anything outside of that human-shaped, human-faced template is a beastman. It's an odd distinction when the beastmen can be just as intelligent and individual as other characters, but it exists, and a lot of things in the story wouldn't work if the player-character is a beastman without *massive* adjustments to the game script.
