I wish they had used the Vaan from Dissida 012 for XII...XII he's sort of a whiny little orphan kid, 012 he's more of a confident and playful kinda guy.

I think a lot of the hate for XII came from the plot not being the typical FF plot that most games have. Unfortunately that hate led to SE making XIII linear so they could focus on the plot more. They succeeded in that, it probably has the best story since VII but the linearity was awful until you got to Pulse. That's why I hope SE can take the best from XII and XIII when they produce XV. By the time it comes out the PS3 will be in it's final years so there's no excuse for not maxing the technology in the same way they managed with XII on the PS2.
They should have just made an MMO sequel to XII set in its world with HD graphics, it would have been released sooner and far better than XIV. Makes you wonder where it all went wrong with XIV's world design when they put that much effort into a single player world.
LOL.
Am I the only one who plays FF games for the music and aesthetics?
The gameplay of every single FF game sucks.
I put gameplay as higher priority because if story was more important I could just pick up a classic book. I can play a good game with a bad story but I can't play a bad game with a good story. Story is important for replay value however. It's the reason I kept replaying VII and why I'll replay XIII when I get the chance.
The final straw is when you can no longer grab anymore straws.
I really do not understand all the FFXIV hate (or disapproval). I love FFXIV as is. As long as they continue to add content (as all MMORPG's do) Anything else (tweaked combat, chocobos, etc...) is a bonus. I am one of the ones that will be here regardless of what happens in 1.18. The only thing that would stop me from playing FFXIV is if they cancelled the PS3 version.
because if you didn't notice it was so bad that the majority of people that got the game originally thought it was so bad they would not even play the game with it being free to play. continue to add content? there hasn't been enough content added in the entire time it has been out to even be a single content patch in most other games. well unless you count doubling the mob and magic animation sizes as content.
it is time and 1.18 will be the deciding factor for most players still playing. i know by listening to most of the members in the 5 shells i am in my server will be a complete ghost town if this patch isn't a huge success. it's hard for me to imagine it much worse than it is at this point. the game does still have some players that love the game, but the majority are sick of not getting the fixes that have been talked about since it was released and are still sitting in the we will look into it after this. if the patch doesn't go well and good information about what they plan to do next isn't released soon after then i fear the outcome.
as long as my friends stay in game i will do the same, but it they leave i have nothing to stay for.
Its the final straw for me, I rarely even play as it is because I can't seem to find the will to grind anymore or sit around and wait for a leve party thats in my range. This game is greatly annoying and thats putting it very nicely because If i wanted to really describe how I felt about this game it would result in me getting banned.
Everything from how you level up, to how the craft system is pretty bad. The leve's are bad because theres only a few worth doing for maximum sp. I could literally spend 8 hours talking about how annoying I find the game in its current state.
Their next offering will be the last chance for me too. It has been too long already with this amount of flawed systems ingame. Can't complain about it as I don't pay, but I can stop playing :)
They need to realise their next move is going to make or break it for the die hard few who have stuck around. They lose those players too, and they will have no one left to trust in them
Make your next move carefully SE, your cavalier and ignorant approach to your playerbase has reached breaking point, and if you don't start delivering, we may well be seeing the end to the numbered series too.
Sure you could do other leves, but really it's just glorified grinding, and it's not even that glorified. When playing a single player FF game, you went grinding for a reason. That reason was to be able to beat a boss be able to get certain items. But, there's no endgame or anything else besides faction and roaming NMs. I've been playing in statics for a while but im getting sick of just killing for sp, I want challenge, I want rewards and I want story. So in that respect, this is a make or break patch.
I've stopped playing or logging in long ago. I don't even think there are any people ingame that still remember I ever was there. The only reason I'm here is that I already wasted my money on this game and now I'm just relatively curious what SE will do about this game. I can't say 1.18 is the "last straw" for me, I'm just waiting for other games to be released at the moment. If FFXIV won't get improved until those games are released, then they are just going to lose me, because I won't be playing multiple games, I'm too busy with RL for that.
I'm still having a lot of fun with XIV.
But there's a very specific reason for this: I'm what many would consider a "casual" MMO gamer.
Not a casual gamer. I'm pretty on point when it comes to gaming.
But as far as MMO standards, I'm casual. I work 9 - 5, and when not at work or out on the town, I'm playing either XIV or some other non-mmo game.
Unfortunately, it seems I'm the target demographic for this game...at least until 1.18 comes about...
I prefer Guildleves over FFXI-type grinding where you just stand in one place, pull mobs and kill them for no other reason than to get EXP. At least with leves, there's a purpose. They definitely need a lot more of them, as well as more variation, while also tweaking existing leves. It would also be nice if you got rewarded more for upping the difficulty and doing it with less members, basically making SP gained in proportion with effort made.
Agree that 12 was pretty average, 13 was f'ing terrible.
13-Versus doesn't look like its going to appeal to me due to the real time combat, Final Fantasy started going down hill the moment it became mainstream as is the case with most games.
I can't believe some people are still expecting the game to become entertaining overnight...
I am nit expecting it over night but I am expecting much more rapid progress after the battle system is complete. I have believed for a long time the reason they are not putting content in is because they were waiting for the battle system to be ready and finalised it seemed the only logical reason for the lack of content.
With 1.18 I expect the new battle system to be put in place along with skill, abilities and stat adjustments. After a week or two of it being released they can go ahead with 1.18b to fine tune any problems that they may have over looked.
After that though with 1.19 and 1.20 I will be expecting a lot of content to start making it's way into the game.
They have multiple teams working on other things so I expect to see the fruits of their labour once the battle system is complete, they must have been working on something all this time after all.
If this turns out to not be the case then I think I will finally throw in the towel as they will have had long enough to start showing what they are capable of.
Folks that have level 50 in everything make me sad.
Even if I did come back, the level of insanity a lot of people are willing to endure just to be "the highest level" will always disappoint me.
You know what the beauty of not actually playing this game while keeping up with the changes is?
If it succeeds, I can come back to it and it'll have that "new game" feeling.
If it fails, fuck it I'm already playing other games I enjoy.
Nothing is "make or break" to me when the game was pretty much dead on arrival. My $80 are gone and unfortunately there's nothing I can do about it.
If 1.18 fails it's going to hurt, however, as long as the game is free to play I'm not going to walk away. While I can't play everyday, I do enjoy the times I can play...
I'm very excited for 1.18, and really hope it brings a lot of excitement to the community, but if they don't have the game running on all cylinders by the time they start charging then I'll look elsewhere.
Gameplaqy wise I can agree with you, except for FFXII! XII's Gameplay was a milestone in FF History and sadly they started all over again in XIII, which was a huge let down once again. Get Kitase away from the damn FF Titles...he is unable to create something original, if he's gonna do any more FFs they will all look like FFX, X-II, XIII etc...and they are among the worst FFs of all time <.<
BTT: 1.18 is not really the final straw for me, though it IS definetely the first huge step I expect to change the game a lot and if that's not happening I will be certainly thinking about either not playing XIV until there really has changed something, or play a lot less than so far cause I'm getting sick of the repetitive stuff cause there is NOTHING to do >.<
Boring game is boring. Take a year break, you won't regret it.
Because I stopped playing PC games years ago as sitting in front of a monitor, hunched over a keyboard is a lot less enjoyable than relaxing on a couch in front of a big HDTV. (Hooking a PC up to the TV is not quite the same thing either) I bought the PC FFXIV to play for a couple months (that has since turned into an undetermined amount of time) until the PS3 version came out (just so I could experience it from the start with everyone else) and have no desire to continue to do so (on the PC) for much longer. I do not think them cancelling the PS3 version is likely to happen though, just saying that it is the only thing that would make me stop playing.
Why do ppl post about not playing the game anymore?
We already know the game is not very fun to play for alot of ppl right now, which is why SE isn't charging ppl a fee to play the game right now.
We already know the entire game play and game system is being overhauled, which is what SE hopes will make the game fun to play for alot of ppl.
To be perfectly honest, SE said before they ever released this game that they wanted to build this MMO from the ground up with the players and for the players, which is EXACTLY what they have been doing since the game went free to play.
So, we have two choices right now:
Stay with the game and help SE build a great game with us and for us which isn't costing us a dime...
Or quit playing the game and let SE build a great game with other ppl and for other ppl which isn't costing them a dime...
/shrug
Doesn't bother me to take option one.
Then I'll throw you a curve ball: I just came back to the game!
All this news about 1.18 has gotten me kind of hyped and I'm very interested in seeing in what it brings. Do we even know everything that it will bring yet? All I've really heard so far is more NMs, dungeons (?), and auto-attack. Then some people have said the jobs will start coming as soon as 1.18? Am I being negative or does that seem just a bit too hopeful?
