I like the last list except the first song (Track 40), I also like the black shroud song although I agree it doesn't seem to be a Final Fantasy song. The "Airship song" seems like it could be a pretty good epic boss fight song or something.

Some of these are event themes or for certain occurrences during missions (or for certain instanced areas such as Peasants hall in Gridania.
The Rank 30 Ul'Dah mission has a decent battle theme that sounds like a nice match for a mini boss.
Welll I didn't know he composed nearly all the FF's :/ As for Mistbeard Cove, the music suits the area, don't get me wrong, it's just that we'd like to see nice catchy music like that in places that were in all the time, like the main cities and whatnot. This is the point that Ivera keeps stressing as well. That'd be cool though, to hear different music for battles such as NM's, or in specific dungeons..
No i completely agree there, I think people had higher expectations from the past themes, especially since Uematsu's music fit perfectly with each game and really established what people think of as far as Final Fantasy goes today. For instance, check out this topic I made awhile ago:

Or better yet, here is the opening post quoted:
And with all the talk of Magitek going around, we'd better get a high tech Garlean dungeon complete with fitting music
Especially since we've practically got an FF dream team as far as artistic style and music goes (Akihiko Yoshida & Nobuo Uematsu ). So hopefully we start seeing both more intricately designed equipment (Yoshida's forte...some of the rank 30 NM drops and the art shown for the black mage and dark knight stuff shows he's still got it) and a wider range of music from Uematsu.
EDIT: With Mistbeard cove, I guess he was sorta going back to Pirates Ahoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1CWWL9UBUk&NR=1
I wish Black Shroud's theme was similar to Awakened Forest from FFIX...especially since the current theme sounds a little too mysterious for an overworld area near town.
Thanks for sharing those links Teknoman! I agree, the current FF team is really good, and it's only a matter of time before more dungeon music is added. and yeah, it'd be cool if Black Shrouds music was like that Awakened Forest theme, and the current music was used for someplace more mysterious.. also can't wait for the new equipment, it looks amazing o.o
I said this earlier, but I really wish the music of mistbeard cove (which I really like) was used in a place we visit often, like a city. And use all the ominous, mysterious music for dungeons and such.
so this whole thread has been mostly about music sofar, and i think most of us agree that things can be improved in that category, but i was also just trying to help with the feel of the game and hoping that everyone else would have suggestions other than the music. so anyone got any ideas?
something other than chocobos and airships kuz thats a given, and i dont think it will make much of a difference if im in and area that feels all different and then a chocobo runs by. that 3 seconds isnt gonna make all the difference. though it would help and we all know that.
so what has made an impression on you in past final fantasy games? what really made you feel like you were in another world? was it the environment? weird looking trees everywhere you go? floating land or city in the sky? a strange weather you've never seen? different jobs that really stand out?
i want to hear your suggestions so we can really help make the game better for everyone.
i just hope they're actually seeing this stuff..
Well Coerthas and Mor Dohna really look like something you might've seen in past Final Fantasy titles. Honestly we just need more enemy diversity in the 3 starting regions, more wandering Beast tribes of all ranks (that make sense for the area of course) and more structures (ruins, campsites, outposts, and dungeons with actual bosses).
Very key is starting zone music.
None of it is quite up to the scale of music in Sarutabaruta, Gustaberg, and Ronfaure.
Although Uematsu is will always be the pioneer composer for the FF series, I would prefer to have Naoshi Mizuta, Kumi Tanioka and especially Hitoshi Sakimoto contribute to this game as well.
i agree with everything but the adding more campsites part, i dont think theres any reason for more because they just add a place to do leves. but i think alittle of whats missing is some variation in the areas. what i mean is, thanalan is just one big same exact desert with a few variations but it all looks the same, and its the same with the black shroud and every area we have. if you think about (in FFXI) how you got from bastok to san doria, you go from south gustaberg-north gustaberg-konschtat highlands-valkurn dunes-la thiene plateu-west ronfure-sandoria.
thats alot of areas that all look different except for north and south gustaberg. i think it would be alot better to cut up the areas we have into parts that look completely different but without loading screens, just blend it into the environment. its cool that the areas are really huge but they look exactly the same everywhere. its basicly 2 areas between cities
