Retarded idea, lets not foster the idea of making already turbulent forums more hostile.
People aren't capable of being objective when it comes to rating posts. You say something they don't like? Regardless of how well articulated and thought-out your post is, it is rated down because of bias.
Considering nobody looks at threads objectively anymore a "Thumbs down" would just be absurd. >_> Bias and personal hatred would end up ruling whether someone would rate a post down.
Isn't the point of the forums to allow the developers, insight into the opinions of the players? I don't mind if someone disagrees with me, I just want to find ways to cut down on redundant post. Those who post an idea, those who agree and those who disagree. I shouldn't have to dig through 10 pages of post to get a general overview of the responses. What would be a better way to display this?
If you don't like something, ignore it.
If you don't like something and it goes beyond the the normal bounds of human ignorance, report it.

That's why we should be able to rate (up and down) the thread (the OP), not individual posts in the later discussion.
Saying that people downrate an idea just for the hell of it works both ways, i.e.:
Thread 1: "QQ Please Nerf Archer"
Thread 2: "QQ Please Do Not Nerf Archer"
According to that theory the same guy who downrates the first idea will also downrate the second. IMO it's a dumb theory.
Just limit thumbs up or down to OP, and show up and down count separately.
I like the idea so I can easily disagree with a proposed idea without having to write up the same long post that the first dude did that covers my whole argument anyhow.
