How to Help Tanks in Dungeons 101.

This a thousand times!! I have been in dungeons as a tank, keeping the mobs occupied when new mobs come along and party members take them on only to of course get the aggro. They then run around (probably screaming OMG OMG) and I'm like "come here I cant chase after you and keep these occupied".

There are situations where Topaz Carbuncle or Titan-Egi can be a great help to tanks and I would have them summoned for the purpose of assisting the tank

2 cases being

Last boss in the Sastasha dungeon and the first boss in Cutter's Cry

Both of these bosses at about 50% of HP will spawn lots of adds

In both these dungeons I have had the tank turn over the main boss over to me to hold for the remainder of the fight while the tank holds adds

A note to any ACN or SNM reading, this a few tips

1) This only works with Topaz Carbuncle or Titan-Egi and having a Clued up tank

2) At the start of the fight send it pet using SIC command at the same time as the tank DON'T use a spell to send the pet in

3) Keep an eye on your pets hate and heath meters as well as the bosses health bar

4) At the point that the tank turns the boss over to you then STOP DPS'ing on the boss as you will needed to save MP and only focus on healing you pet

If the tank is okay with it, then it's fine (if a tank doesn't want a Topaz carbuncle out, it's usually best to keep it away), but there are alternatives - for example, in Satasha, it may be easier to have a ranged DD keep an eye on the grates and interact with them whenever the water starts to bubble. I was in a group where both DDs were ranged, so those two and the healer spread out to three of the four grates while I held the boss in the middle. One DD had to keep an eye on two grates, but otherwise, the run was phenomenal.

However, that situation depends on the preference of the party members as well as the classes involved. Obviously if the DDs that were in my party were melee DDs, it would have been much harder to have them keep an eye on the grates. At the end of it all, I suppose it comes down to the situation - there's more than one "right" way to do it. :)

I got an video of the Sastasha attempt of the boss in question that I managed to tank the boss.

Thank you for this. I want to emphasize the "PLEASE DO NOT USE TOPAZ CARBUNCLES" part. Seriously, they completely mess up my tanking because I can never seem to divert the mob back to me to manage the group properly. It messes up enmity so that when someone starts using AoEs the mob that's attacking the carbuncle strays towards the party which makes me have to bring the entire group of mobs toward them to retrieve it. :/ Cue more AoEs and the fact that I now have to spam Flash decreasing my MP, and as a result I have to use Riot Blade to get it back, screwing up the enmity of the mob group entirely, which creates a huge mess.
This is just the experience I've had with Topaz Carbuncles and dungeons so far as a tank.

Not to sound like a dick but i dont get all the tanking issues. Ive played my fair share of mmos and this is one of the easier to tank IMO. Be in a dungeon tanking groups of mobs while checkin something on my phone and puffin some trees...and still not lose aggro on even one mob. Seeing like 4+ pages on this nearly made my brain explode

My tank friends would want me to mention not to follow this blindly. They've had to deal with way too many people who ignore their target marks because of similar advice. If a tank has numbered the targets you should kill them in that order.

Yes, please don't make us this game's version of huntards. You queued as DPS so use your DPS pet. The tank and healer don't need you interfering with agro and nobody wants you gimping your DPS. The yellow pikachu is for soloing only.

Don't expect that to work past low levels. Starting at the last boss in Brayflox a pet can't tank a dungeon. It'll stand in stuff and it'll die almost immediately.

General use of Topaz Carbuncle or Titan-Egi can mess things up and for the main part of the dungeon the ACN should really use either Emerald Carbuncle, Ifrit-Egi or Garuda-Egi. I'm just saying that on a few of the dungeon bosses Topaz Carbuncle and Titan-Egi can be a great help. it does how ever require the tank, ACN and healer to work together.

I have managed to help tank the 1st boss in Cutter's Cry which is no mean feet. Cutter's Cry being well outside of low levels. ACN pet tanking is not suitable for all boss encounters.

I've resorting to explaining how I run the dungeon before we get started: {gotta love it when a dps runs ahead and dies during the explanation too...}

#1 always assist me
#2 stay behind me, never run ahead and aggro/pull mobs
#3 if you pull aggro and run away I won't help, you will die!

Best part about #3, most healers concur and we let them die until they learn not to do it...rofl! And if they leave, big deal, there are a plethora of other DPS waiting to get in on the action!

Absolutely, do not use Topaz or Titan, ever, they are for solo and more dps is better!

And as long as everyone follows the #1 rule "assist the tank" I have no problems holding the boss and 4+ mobs. Also don't ever engage new adds to boss fights until I have them under control, it just causes havoc!
