Reaper is a job that has beings from two different reflections cooperate. I'm not a fan of the job, but its basically perfect as far as thematic alignment with the expansion goes.

Since when was his name Meteor?
That's a pretty loose connection, though. "Perfect" seems like a big stretch, because that makes Reaper equally appropriate to our cooperation with any shard. To be fair, outside of whatever shard suffered a fate during the Sixth Umbral Era, all the rest seem to have very little information about the cataclysms that led to them on the Source, so there's not really much source material to pull for the Fourth outside of just the elemental aspect and that it featured a Miqo'te migration. Maybe Meteor should've downed a Fantasia and gone Miqo'te for an expansion then (kidding). Which I guess as a tangent, it would be nice to learn more about the past Umbral Eras and what actually led to those events at some point if we are to continue saving shards and undoing the elemental cataclysms, because it could give us more inspiration for what jobs should represent those expansions further down the line.
Within the fossil records of box arts from a bygone time, this woulda been considered peak heroic:

Who's to say it's not heroic enough for FFXIV trailer material one day?~
I saw it as embodying the protection of the source from the impending doom. It’s hard to match the thematic link of Shadowbringers though. Few jobs will be able to fit that perfectly, I think. Though they could always build a future expansion theme around a jobs concept
That's correct - the WoL's appearence as PLD for EW's propaganda was meant to represent being a 'knight in shining armour' as a beacon of hope in Hydaelyn's darkest hour during the Final Days. In a more meta sense, it was coming back full circle to FFXIV's roots, where he was originally depicted as a GLA in 1.0's original opening and propaganda - note that he switched to ARC temporarily in the 1.0 opening during his Echo jaunt (that was done to show how the Armoury System worked), but at the beginning and end he's a GLA (blink and you'll miss it but he has a sword on his travelling pack).
So EW showing him as GLA's Job upgrade of PLD was meant to be returning to that origin, fitting for EW being the expansion that wound up the 'original' story.
Given that, it could've perhaps been an option to make him a Bard for Evercold. Where his first class' job is where he finds himself at the end of the first arc, the job of the first class he changed too could've been where he found himself at the start of a new arc. But alas... Reaper because we hate anything ranged I guess.
PLD for EW was also a very heavy nod to Cecil FF4's transition from a DRK to a PLD, and we knew there was going to be a lot of FF4 reference from the Fanfest reveals, like that the Magus Sisters would be somewhere as a boss
That is very unlikely to ever happen outside of Encyclopedia Eorzea, because it'd require SE to either A: explain the disconnect between WHM being so destructive in the lore and how it was partially responsible for a Calamity (along with BLM), yet we as players get the 'It's focused on Pure Healing (tm)' CureSpamming version of WHM, or B: rewrite the lore of the Calamity to say that 'BLMs kept using stronger and stronger destructive magic, and WHMs kept using stronger and stronger restoration magic to heal through everything the BLMs threw at them', effectively making 'CureSpamming WHM' canon to the lore of the game (and it still wouldn't explain why it was a Water calamity specifically)
